Encounter with Jin Yong --preface Many friends and teachers in the society and academic circles mistakenly recommend me as an expert on Jin Yong research. Some romantic old gentlemen who like to insult Jin Yong and Jin Yong's research also put the hat of misleading young people on my head.In fact, I have written a lot of articles about Jin Yong, and I have done a lot of lectures and interviews, but until 2005, I did not publish a monograph on Jin Yong.I am a person who studies everything and nothing.I admire the famous saying of my ancestors: "A gentleman is not a weapon".In my opinion, the highest state of life should be: "Do everything and accomplish nothing." However, in order to repay the kindness of the people for their upbringing, a conscientious person should always study something.I have nothing to learn, so I have to study "culture".In culture, I focus on literature; in literature, I focus on novels and dramas; in recent years, I have focused on popular novels; in popular novels, I have studied martial arts novels with heart; I was waiting for my masked Bole, so we met on a narrow road and had a tragic encounter.

I started to study Jin Yong relatively late, it was already the 35th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In the late 1980s, I just became the chairman of the student union of the Chinese Department of Peking University. In return, in broad daylight, the general public enthusiastically watched the years when gangsters gang-raped women.I was dismissive of any "martial arts novels" at that time.I have received elegant orthodox literary education since I was a child. I read Mencius and Han Feizi when I criticized Lin and Confucius, and I read Water Margin and Three Kingdoms when I criticized Water Margin. Wang Meng, Zhang Jie, Liu Xinwu, who later went to Peking University, and what Tolstoy, Lemontov, Cervantes, Balzac, Heidegger, Marquez, Kawabata, Yasunari, Kobayashi, Tahi, the second generation of lecherous men... all day big fish and meat Eating Hesai indiscriminately, I just feel that all the delicacies of mountains and seas in the world have been eaten into my stomach. It used to be delicious, except Xi Shi is not a human being.Gradually, after seeing through all kinds of literary tricks, I developed a heart of iron and stone. If you love the sky and hate the sea, and the five thunders strike the top, I will also collapse in front of the mountain without changing my color. Many friends who graduated from the Chinese Department of Peking University have gone through such a path of "destroying human nature". Let me ask, when they have read all the ancient and modern classics, Chinese and foreign masterpieces, what literature and writers can move us "" Are you a literary madman who is angry with books and scolds Fang Qiu?

At this moment, I found that the students around me were not only obsessed with Qian Zhongshu, Shen Congwen, Zhang Ailing and Elliott Rilke Beauvoir, but some of them were talking about Sanmao Qiongyao, Xi Murong and Jin Yong, Gulong Liang Yusheng. As an outstanding student cadre and one of the first batch of Communist Party members in my class, I feel that I have the responsibility to understand the root cause of these students' "ideological degeneration".I said, "What kind of crap? Are you ruining your body day and night? Submit it to the official, and have a look!" The classmate said, "This is the greatest literature. Not bad!" So, he handed over a popular literature periodical with its cover peeled off, and there were two serial chapters on it.A glorious moment in the history of Chinese literature was born.

I am a person who is very devoted to reading and watching movies. I advertise "sensibility first, then rationality; perception first, research later".When I was in elementary and middle school, I shed tears for "The Story of the Red Lantern" and "Gao Yubao", for "The Flower Girl" and "The Fate of Jin Ji and Yin Ji", and for "Thunderstorm" and , shed tears for "Wanderer" and "Love Cannot Be Forgotten" and "Garland Under the Mountain".After I went to college, I never shed tears for literary works.I thought I was mature enough to never be tricked into tears by writers again.Movies like and the blockbuster "The Dawns Here Are Quiet" deeply moved me, but they didn't break my tear ducts. However, I was moved by Jin Yong again and again. When Guo Jing carried Huang Rong on his back to find Master Yideng to heal his wounds, when Yang Guo resolutely jumped off the cliff after waiting for the little dragon girl for 16 years, when Guo Xiang "has clouds in the sky, mountains and snow at dusk, who does the shadow go to?" Hu Fei sucked the venom and died. When Hu Yidao entrusted the child to his opponent Miao Renfeng, when Yin Susu told his son Zhang Wuji with his life that "the more beautiful a woman is, the more she will deceive people", when the Mingjiao heroes sang "burn my body , the blazing holy fire. How happy is life? Why bother death? Pity me, the world, there are so many worries.” When Princess Xiangxiang stabs the dagger into the most beautiful chest in the world, when Yue Lingshan and Ma Chunhua are killed by their lovers, they are still dying. Missing and admiring that ruthless lover, when Xiao Feng mistakenly killed A Zhu who loved him the most in the world and understood him best, when Duan Yanqing, who was "full of evil", learned that Duan Yu was his son, when Wei Xiaobao received Kangxi's love in Tongchi Island. The six "rescue pictures" full of brotherhood... almost every time I read these passages, tears well up in my eyes.Brother Zhi'an said that being moved is a sign of immaturity, and you won't be moved if you read too much. But I really can't achieve brother Zhi'an's realm.I have read thousands of books, traveled thousands of miles, and slept more than 10,000 times in a mess, but now that I am approaching the cold-blooded mark of forty, I am more easily moved.I was also sad when the Americans died, and I sighed when the Iraqis died. My wife gritted her teeth and cursed me: "Menopause came so early!"

Because of my fascination with Jin Yong, I started reading martial arts like crazy. But after reading hundreds of books, most of them are forgotten. There is no hype, no guidance, and even no original version. It is the reading practice of hundreds of millions of people, which has engraved Jin Yong's name in the history of human literature.I joined the ranks of talking about swordsmanship, from classmates to teachers. My classmates and I recommended Jin Yong to Qian Liqun, a teacher known for his seriousness. We exaggeratedly said that if you don’t read Jin Yong, you don’t know half of Chinese literature. Therefore, Teacher Qian Liqun read Jin Yong, and later wrote a research article. The illustrated literary history written by him and Wu Xiaodong included the content of Jin Yong for the first time.Teacher Qian encouraged us to talk about Jin Yong as serious literature. So, I reread Jin Yong over and over again with the attitude of a researcher, but I still couldn't control my tears. At this time, I knew that Jin Yong's readers were all over the world and in almost all fields. Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Jingguo, Hua Luogeng, Yang Zhenning, Wang Xuan, Li Tuo, Feng Qiyong... all spoke highly of Jin Yong's novels. However, if I want to publicly study Jin Yong at Peking University, the highest institution in China, at my age, I will definitely be framed by conservative forces and kill myself. With great enthusiasm and talent, Mr. Chen Pingyuan wrote a monograph on the study of martial arts novels "Eternal Literati and Knights Dream", which was very exciting in the university circle. However, Mr. Chen Pingyuan did not dare to take advantage of the victory to open a research course on martial arts novels, which shows that Jin Yong's entry into Peking University is huge.

It was Mr. Yan Jiayan, the master of modern Chinese literature research, who broke the ice.I didn’t know until I was admitted as a doctoral student that Mr. Yan Jiayan was not only a fan of Jin Yong, but also had already lectured on Jin Yong issues in the United States. Some yellow-mouthed children in the society spread rumors that Yan Jiayan himself liked Jin Yong, so he forced all students to study Jin Yong, slandering him as "mistaking my youth and destroying my literature".In fact, I was a Ph.D. student for a year before I discovered that Mr. Yan was a fan of Jin Yong, and Mr. Yan never restricted the research direction of the students. We just met by chance.Teacher Yan's other students were not very interested in Jin Yong's research. My view of Jin Yong is not exactly the same as Teacher Yan's, and my doctoral thesis is not about Jin Yong. Some of the tutors I admire most often have superhuman academic courage. Mr. Yan Jiayan is still forging ahead with such a high academic reputation. He took the lead in offering a course of "Research on Jin Yong's Novels" at Peking University, and later published "Jin Yong's Novels".Sure enough, there was a hail of bullets in the society, and there was a tendency to crush Peking University. As far as I'm concerned, you don't need to pay attention to it at all, but Mr. Yan is meticulous and answers every responsibility. His Confucian demeanor is particularly touching.Under the impetus of Mr. Yan Jiayan, Peking University awarded Jin Yong the title of honorary professor. That was the first time I met Jin Yong and took a photo with him.Later, Peking University held an international seminar on Jin Yong's novels. At this time, I was already in my thirties, and I was qualified to speak a few truths. So I started to write some words on appreciation and analysis of Jin Yong, including commenting on Jin Yong's novels with Yan Jiayan, Feng Qiyong, Chen Mo and other gentlemen. Some schools, radio stations and TV stations took turns asking me to lecture on Jin Yong's novels. In those few years, the orthodox forces that suppressed and discriminated against Jin Yong were very strong in society. Therefore, I learned the strategy of Mr. Chen Mo, the pioneer of Jin Yong research, and adopted a resolute attitude of resistance to Jin Yong's novels with enthusiasm and affirmation. In fact, I am quite dissatisfied with Jin Yong's novels, including Jin Yong himself. I think some of the criticisms of Jin Yong by Mr. Yu Jie, Mr. Luo Shuang, and Mr. Chi Yuyu are also very reasonable. However, small truths must be subordinated to big truths. Under the fierce attack of extreme leftists who completely deny martial arts novels and traditional Chinese culture, we must first protect the people's right to read freely.Only under the premise of free reading of Jin Yong, it is possible to freely discuss the pros and cons of Jin Yong's novel art.

Entering the 21st century, we have finally expanded the space for talking about Jin Yong in the academic circle with arduous battles.Jin Yong began to enter various literary histories.I also talked about Jin Yong abroad, and published articles on Jin Yong abroad.Recently, I participated in the editor-in-chief of college popular literature textbooks, and I wrote a special chapter "Jin Yong, the Revolutionary Giant of Martial Arts Novels".My future research focus will still be Lu Xun, Lao She, Cao Yu and other writers, but Jin Yong will still encounter them often, because this is a cultural focus extending in all directions.

It has been twenty years since I met Jin Yong, and Jin Yong has become a bit of a nagging old man, and the films and TV adaptations of Jin Yong's works are becoming more and more vulgar. But I can't forget the moving Jin Yong's novels brought to me and the moving others I know. For leisure, for lesson preparation, and for research, I must open Jin Yong's novels many times.I can't predict whether I will burst into tears when facing those passages when I am not confused at forty and fifty know my destiny at sixty and obey my heart at seventy.
