董钊一听对方慌乱地打着哆嗦，气就不打一处来：“慌什么！天又没塌下来！”当着胡宗南的面大声地训斥部属，实际上也是宣泄自己内心的情绪。哪知道这番训斥并没有使王应尊镇定下来，他反而哆嗦得更厉害了：“军座，刚才三十一旅李纪云的电台，在青化砭以南发出呼救，几分钟后就……没声音了！” 王应尊声嘶力竭的叫嚷，在话筒里哇哇直炸，引得旁边的薛敏泉和几个参谋全都伸长了脖子。胡宗南脸色大变，烦躁地对董钊喊：“叫他讲清楚点，到底出了什么事？” 董钊只好耐心重复一遍：“你慢慢说，清楚点，到底……” 那边王应尊缓了口气，但依然激愤万分：“三十一旅……军座，刘戡兵团见死不救，李纪云才求告于我，希军座明察，转告胡先生，对那些见死不救的党国逆贼，务必严加制裁！” 情况已经大白，在场的人面面相觑，不知说什么才好。谁都知道刘戡与胡宗南是什么关系，怎么参言呢？安静了好一会儿，薛敏泉只好诘问董钊：“谁叫三十一旅跑到青化砭去的？嗯，是谁的命令？！” 这话像刀子一样捅到胡宗南的心窝。作战命令是他胡宗南下的，内容是叫三十一旅从拐峁镇远出进行威力侦察后“相机前进”，怎能想到这个李纪云一“前进”便钻进了共产党军队的包围圈！胡宗南对此一直很担心，然而最担心的事却偏偏发生了。现在薛敏泉这么一问，让他心中气愤之极，说不清是对薛敏泉的“故意找碴儿”，还是对李纪云的“不善机变”，抑或是对董钊的“明从暗抗”，总之，他高声打断了薛敏泉，说：“还追究这些干什么！一个旅的兵力，不是儿戏，赶快想办法救援要紧。整一军主力今天行军不远，即刻向拐峁镇以北机动吧！” 董钊连午饭都没顾上吃，立刻集合部队向北进发。胡宗南又急令刘戡，命位于拐峁镇的整三十六师和位于延东的整七十六师作好战斗准备，保持机动状态，随时策应整一军主力作战。但是，所有这一切努力，都已经晚了。胡宗南一条腿被拖进深深的泥潭…… 3月25日上午11点钟左右，青化砭打成一锅粥。 一切都在彭德怀的预想之中。他是个有十分把握还得加三分保险的指挥员。当初他对部队讲“敌人第一天不来，第二天一定得来……”时，事实上大批便衣侦察已沿着咸榆公路侦察到延安东关机场附近，李纪云三十一旅的一举一动，都在他的掌握之中。当然还有遍地都是眼睛的老百姓。 青化砭一仗后，彭德怀体会很深地说：“边区群众对敌人真是守口如瓶。青化砭这一仗，要不是在陕北，是很难打的。” 彭德怀整个西北战场的大思路中，民众条件占据首要地位，其次是地形条件。他就是要靠这两点把胡宗南拖垮，然后找机会一口一口地吃掉。这是早在延安请命时，就烂熟于心的整体构想。现在，彭德怀要从第一步扎扎实实地做起。在下定决心之前，他就把这次战斗前前后后想得很细。 第一天设伏落空后，彭德怀亲自给各纵打电话时，其实就有情报告知李纪云已经出发。李的九十一团当晚进至延安东北约30里的地方安营扎寨，担任延安东北方向的警戒。其旅部带着九十二团上了公路，向北前进的意图十分明显。但彭德怀还是跟部队说“第一天不来，第二天一定会来”这句笼统的话。 第二天拂晓，参加设伏的各纵、各旅部队，早早起床开饭，趁天还没亮，又回到伏击点，悄悄趴下来。 彭德怀对伏击要求非常严，伏击位置必须是敌人搜索不到又能迅速出击的地点，所有火器配置、冲击道路、出击时机、协同动作等，都是经过充分发扬民主才确定下来的。尤其是隐蔽，干部战士想出的主意不下百种。进入伏击区，绝对禁止行走往来。部队多带干粮，水壶统统装满水，焐在身下以防结冰，吃饭问题全靠就地解决，不准向阵地送饭送水。看地形
