Chapter 56 Telegram of condolences to Ma Xulun[1] and others

On behalf of the people of Shanghai, Mr. Zhang and others were running for peace, but were surrounded and beaten by fascist thugs[3], which shows that the militants did not hesitate to cut themselves off from the people.The CCP has always adhered to the policy of peace and democracy, and vowed to work with the people of the whole country to prevent civil war and strive for peace.I would like to express my condolences and hope to cherish it.

[2] Rong Yanfang (1883-1957), a native of Zhenhai, Zhejiang, served as the general manager of the Yangzi River Towing Company and the chairman of Zhejiang Industrial Bank at that time.Zhang Jibo (1885-1969), a native of Ningbo, Zhejiang, was a director of Zhongxing Industrial Company at that time.Bao Dasan (1884-1957), a native of Zhenhai, Zhejiang, was the chairman of Leishi Chemical Company and the general manager of Xinyi Real Estate Company at that time.Sheng Pihua (1883-1961), a native of Ningbo, Zhejiang, was the director of Shangyuan Enterprise Company and the chairman of Kaimei Pharmaceutical Factory at that time.Wu Yaozong (1893-1979), a native of Shunde, Guangdong, was the director of the school group of the National Association of the Chinese YMCA and the director of the bookstore of the Youth Association.Yan Baohang (1895-1968), a native of Haicheng, Liaoning, was a director of the China Economic Enterprise Association and one of the founders of the Northeast Political Construction Association.Lei Jieqiong, born in 1905 in Taishan, Guangdong, was a director of the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy and a professor at Soochow University.Chen Zhenzhong, born in Haining, Zhejiang in 1926, was a student at St. John's University and the chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Student Unions.Chen Lifu (1924-1994), a native of Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, was a student at Soochow University and the chairman of the Soochow University Student Self-Government Association.

[3] In mid-June 1946, the Shanghai Federation of People's Organizations, which was joined by more than 50 groups including democratic parties, workers, and students in Shanghai, issued a declaration of opposing civil war and wanting peace, and initiated the organization of Shanghai People's Peace The petition group elected ten people including Ma Xulun as representatives, and went to Nanjing to petition the Kuomintang government.When the delegates arrived at Xiaguan Station in Nanjing on the evening of June 23, they were entangled, insulted, and beaten by Kuomintang agents and thugs. Ma Xulun, Yan Baohang, Lei Jieqiong, Chen Zhenzhong, and several journalists were injured.This incident is called "Xiaguan Massacre".
