Chapter 18 Speech at Anti-Daqi Campus

(October 25, 1945) Comrades: The students and comrades of the Seventh Branch of the Anti-Japanese University all came from the border areas and North China. They have worked in various places, and many of them have fought in the war and made contributions in the Anti-Japanese War.It has been a long time since you have come to study at the No. 7 campus, and now you are going to the front, so we hold a meeting here to welcome you and send you off. As you know, the War of Resistance Against Japan is over, but most of the Japanese troops have not surrendered their guns, hundreds of thousands of puppet troops have not surrendered their guns, and many Japanese and puppet troops are still beating us.Our liberated areas, North China, Central China, Northeast China and the Shensi-Kansu-Ningxia Border Region, have a population of 150 million, 1.3 million troops and over 2.5 million militiamen. Now the diehards of the Kuomintang are also going to fight us. During the eight years of the War of Resistance, they hid in the rear and fought very few battles. Many troops had never fought at all. Japan surrendered. They came out and wanted to eat our liberated areas. To fight our Eighth Route Army and New Fourth Army.

This time I went to Chongqing and met Chiang Kai-shek. Our representatives talked with their representatives for more than forty days, and something came out of the discussion. There are two points. The first is that China wants peace, and the second is that China wants democracy. When we raised it, they had no reason to object, so they had no choice but to agree, and an agreement was signed on Double Tenth Day[1].But at the same time they prepared many troops to attack the Liberated Areas, a total of 800,000 troops, not counting those surrounding the Shensi-Kansu-Ningxia Border Region, but more than one million troops. There have been several battles, and they didn't win face in the first few battles. The war will continue, and if we win, peace may be achieved. At that time, we sent a representative to him and said: "Chairman Jiang, we have negotiated before, let's make peace!" We don't want to fight, at that time There might be peace. If they win, our liberated area will become a dark place, our party school will not be able to run, and the No. 7 branch school will not be able to run, the border area will be occupied by them, the border area government will disappear, and the rent reduction and interest rate reduction will also be cancelled. .Therefore, the people's army, government, and Communist Party in our liberated areas must unite as one, defeat the attacks of the diehards, and resolutely eliminate them.Whoever dares to come will destroy them. There is no other way but this way.

Recently played two victories [2].The first battle was fought in the area of Changzhi and the eldest son near Taihang Mountain.Yan Xishan's army had 38,000 people attacking us. We only had 31,000 regular troops. The rest were militiamen. There were 50,000 militiamen who helped carry and transport wounded soldiers. As a result, 35,000 of them were wiped out, and only 3,000 People ran away, and many of their rifles, machine guns, and artillery were confiscated. The second battle was fought in Suiyuan[3].More than 60,000 stubborn and puppet troops attacked us, reaching near Zhangjiakou. The first time, they were beaten back by us, and the second time they were beaten to Jining (Pingdiquan), Fengzhen, and Hunyuan, occupying 250 miles of the railway line, and they are still fighting now.For the rest, battles have also begun on the Ping-Han line, the Jin-Pu line, Hebei, Jiangsu, and Anhui. We are sure to win these battles, because the vast areas are in our hands, the people support us, and the local troops and guerrillas have developed into field armies. There are tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of field troops and hundreds of thousands of militiamen in a place, so they can be dealt with very well.

What about the future? There will always be peace in the future. In the next few months, we have to do a lot of work. We need to implement the 10-10 agreement, we need to achieve peace, and we need to implement democracy. The Double Ten Agreement did not solve the problem of the liberated areas, because they did not want to recognize the liberated areas.A few months later, we will still ask them to recognize the Liberated Areas. It is impossible not to recognize them. This is the general trend in China. This is the task of the Communist Party and the Eighth Route Army, and the task of the people in the liberated areas.

Speaking of the people, I met many people in the rear area. They are very enthusiastic, willing to help us, and support our liberated areas.I also saw many foreigners, such as Americans, whose government policies are bad and anti-communist, but their pilots and soldiers are very friendly, and they come to me in groups, and they must send me something.I also met the British and French in Chongqing. Some of them are not good, but most of them are good. Their government is not good, just like the United States. Therefore, we must learn to analyze, a few people are not good, and most people are good.We have friends all over China and the world, we are not alone.

It's good for you to come forward.Go to the front, I hope you pay attention, our general task is to fight for national peace, to defeat the reactionaries who dare to attack us, to achieve peace, this is the first. The second is to hope that you will expand your team and strengthen your team.Officers must pay attention to their attitude and treat soldiers like friends, comrades, and brothers. When you become officials, you must adopt such an attitude, and don't be like the Kuomintang army officers who treat the brothers badly.Because we are all standing on the same line to serve the people, and we are all prepared to sacrifice our lives for the benefit of the people of the whole country. Why should we treat the soldiers badly? It must be good. From now on, no matter which unit you go to, you must improve the relationship between officers and soldiers. You treat the soldiers well, and the soldiers will definitely treat you with a good attitude. Such a team cannot be broken up by any enemy. The same is true for our Party Central Committee. To have democracy within our Party means to treat comrades with an attitude of being comrades, friends, brothers, and sisters. The whole party is united, more than one million party members are united, and we are not afraid of any enemy.

The third is to have a good relationship with the common people.Wherever our team goes, we must care for the common people and solve their difficulties.Everywhere we go, we have to rely on the help of the common people for food, shelter, and clothing. If the relationship is not good and we cannot get the help of the common people, we will have no way to fight. We must improve the relationship between the military and the people, but there are many places that have not been done well.Of course, generally speaking, our Eighth Route Army and New Fourth Army are good to the common people.Your No. 7 school is also good.Your No. 7 branch school also engages in production in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region. If you don’t engage in production, the burden on the people will be too heavy. Now that North China, Northeast China and many other places are fighting, we must pay more attention to improving the relationship between the army and the people.Regarding this issue, we used to talk about it once every time a group of people went out, and now we talk about it again when you go out, and you have to talk about it when you get to the front. All our troops are to be united with the people.

You have learned a lot, so I will just talk about these few things. With these few points, that is, resolutely opposing the attacks of the reactionaries, striving for national peace, improving the relationship between officers and soldiers, and uniting the entire people and the entire army, China's affairs will be settled easily.China's affairs are handled by the Communist Party of China, the Eighth Route Army, the New Fourth Army, and the common people. We have the determination and the means to practice peace, democracy, unity and unity.Peace, democracy, and unity are the policies that our party has set, and we must strive for this policy. The Central Committee does the same work as you, and Commander-in-Chief Zhu and I do the same work as you. We have no other work except to liberate the Chinese people.Comrades! Unite and unite as one, and strive for the liberation of the Chinese people.
