Chapter 54 Strive to capture Jinzhou within ten days

(October 3, 1948) Lin Luoliu[1] also reported to the Northeast Bureau: After the 17:00 telegram [2] is sent out today, we will consider the direction of your attack. We firmly believe that you should not waver at all from the established policy, and instead of fighting Jinzhou, go to Changchun. In addition to the reasons mentioned in the previous telegram, assuming that you change your policy and take Changchun, your next step is to fight the two brocades[3]. In this way, it will increase the difficulty for you to fight the two brocades; secondly, because of the existence of Changchun, the enemy in Shenyang does not dare to ignore Changchun and concentrate on aiding Jin. Twenty days (this time is very important) to contain at least some of the enemies in Shenyang. If you take Changchun first, then when you play the two championships next, not only will the situation in the two championships become more difficult than it is now, but also the enemy will be able to use their nests to help the Jin Dynasty. The threat to your attack and reinforcements will be greater than now. Therefore, we do not agree with you changing your plan, but believe that you should concentrate your energy and strive to capture Jinzhou within ten days, and concentrate the necessary forces on attacking Jinzhou while annihilating four to five enemy divisions that came to aid from Jinxi. As long as you take Jinzhou, you will have the initiative in the battle, but taking Changchun will not help you take the initiative, but will increase your difficulties in the next step.I hope you deeply understand this point and see you again.

"We are considering two action plans. We also ask the Military Commission to consider and give instructions." The Military Commission replied: "You should take advantage of the critical moment when the enemy in Changchun has not yet dispatched and the enemy in Shenyang does not dare to assist Jinzhou alone, and concentrate your main force to quickly take down Jinzhou. This plan should not be changed." Moved to the front line of Jinzhou, deployed to attack Jinzhou, and pointed out: "If the relocation is too long, you will be in danger of being passive."
