Chapter 94 Strengthen defenses and smash the Kuomintang army's attack on the coast of Fujian

(December 28, 1952) The East China Bureau, the East China Military Region, the Fujian Provincial Party Committee, the Fujian Military Region, and the Central South Military Region: 1. In order to cooperate with the US military's operations in Korea, the enemies in Taiwan and Kinmen have a conspiratorial plan to attack our Fujian island with a force (reportedly an army) and capture two or three counties of our country on the mainland of Fujian. 2. Our Fujian Military Region has the task of smashing the above-mentioned enemy's attack with existing forces (don't rely on any foreign aid).

3. To this end it is necessary to: (A) Quickly and resolutely strengthen the fortifications of the islands that must be defended, reserve sufficient food, ammunition and drinking water, encourage the defenders to prepare for a long-term defense, and do not make the mistake of Nanri Island again [1], otherwise those responsible must be fined deserved punishment. (B) Anticipate several possibilities of the enemy's attack on the island and decide on a clear reinforcement plan. (c) It is expected that the enemy may land on the mainland at certain coastal points, and prepare some non-permanent tactical fortifications. For example, recently I used a platoon to hold on to the coastal fortifications to gain time, and I used a company as reinforcements to wipe out the landing enemy. More than a hundred like that.Such tactical fortifications with platoons, companies, and battalions as units must be done, and you are not required to do large-scale and permanent mainland coast defenses. On the islands chosen to be defended, there must be permanent and very strong fortifications.

4. Comrade Zhang Dingcheng [2] returned to Fujian as Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial Government, and Comrade Ye Fei [3] served as a full-time military officer. Before Comrade Zhang Dingcheng arrived in Fuzhou, others temporarily presided over the work of the provincial party committee and the provincial government. Comrade Ye Fei immediately got out to concentrate on fighting against the enemy. Two months from now is the most critical time. We must arouse the entire army of Fujian and the party, government and people in coastal areas to pay full attention to the struggle against the enemy, and we must not be negligent and suffer undue losses.

Your deployment is just around the corner. Central Military Commission December 28 Published according to Mao Zedong's manuscript. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ note [1] Nanri Island is located on the coast of Fujian. After liberation, Chiang Kai-shek's troops of the Kuomintang invaded the island many times, but were repelled by the People's Liberation Army.In October 1952, 6,000 members of the Jiang army invaded Nanri Island again. The troops defending the island of the People's Liberation Army fought bravely but were outnumbered. The follow-up troops reinforced two battalions. Due to improper command, they suffered serious casualties. Occupation, the party and government organs and the people on the island also suffered serious losses.
