Chapter 13 Written speech upon arrival in Moscow

(December 16, 1949) Dear comrades and friends: It is a pleasure in my life to have the opportunity to visit the capital of the Soviet Union, the world's first great socialist country. The peoples of China and the Soviet Union have a profound friendship. After the October Socialist Revolution, the Soviet government first abolished the unequal treaties with China during the imperial Russian era in accordance with the policies of Lenin and Stalin. In almost thirty years, the Soviet people and the Soviet government have assisted the Chinese people in their cause of liberation on several occasions. The Chinese people will never forget the brotherly friendship they received from the Soviet people and the Soviet government in times of adversity.

The important task at present is to consolidate the world peace front headed by the Soviet Union, to oppose war provocateurs, to consolidate the diplomatic relations between China and the Soviet Union, and to develop the friendship between the Chinese and Soviet peoples.I believe that due to the victory of the Chinese people's revolution and the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to the joint efforts of the new democracies and peace-loving people in the world, due to the common aspiration and close cooperation of China and the Soviet Union, and especially due to the correctness of Generalissimo Stalin international policy, these tasks are bound to be fully realized and to good results.

Long live Sino-Soviet friendship and cooperation! According to the publication of "People's Daily" on December 18, 1949.
