Chapter 99 The "new life" of education is itself a mistake

In Japan, since the shortcomings of quality education were pointed out, let education be reborn!" The slogan has not stopped. In the end, it was agreed that "quality education" should be abolished. However, the new education conference held in January 2008 did not put forward any substantive opinions, although the slogan advertised at the meeting was "to mobilize all social forces to make education reborn...to ensure the essence of educating new students". The meeting listed a lot of problems in the current education system: "campus bullying phenomenon", "disadvantages of quality education", "egalitarianism", "formalism", "closedness", "hidden protectionism", "passivism" ...and the solutions mentioned in the end are nothing more than going from one extreme to the other.

Therefore, if I were to rate this report, I would definitely score zero. Looking at the proposals of the past three educational freshman conferences, and the corresponding reform system and budget proposals, they are all far-fetched things. For example, the reform of teacher qualifications.Although this is the first reform of the teacher qualification certification system in 10 years, it has not contributed to the improvement of the overall level of the teaching staff. This is the same as the abolition of field operations in driving schools. It is believed that as long as students can understand what the teacher says, it means that the teacher is qualified. In short, this method of excluding teachers with poor teaching skills cannot improve the overall level of teachers.

There is also a proposal that the start of the university term should be changed from April to September. Its reasoning is: doing so will allow students to have a sufficient summer vacation, and it is also in line with international standards. But instead of doing that, take the step of extending spring break. The Education Freshman Conference did not put forward opinions and suggestions to fundamentally solve the current educational problems in Japan. In fact, the so-called "rebirth" of education is a mistake. The so-called "new life" means to become better than before. If it does not become better than before, it can only show that it is a regression, "back to the past".If there is a regression in the reform of the education system, the education system is likely to develop in a worse direction. And the problem of children's diminished interest in learning mentioned in Chapter 6 cannot be fundamentally solved.

Abolishing "quality education", strengthening moral education, eliminating school bullying, gnawing on the elderly, and freelance work, can this alone change the mental outlook of children? In fact, there are quite a few gnawing elders and freelancers in Japan. It may not be a good idea to completely eliminate this phenomenon. No matter what problem to solve, we must grasp the root cause and then take measures. However, the "new life" policy advertised by Abe is nothing more than the achievement of his prime minister. He called for "reviving the elders and freelancers", but it did not touch the root of the problem.

Finally, if the proposal to reform "quality education" is passed and the education system is completely restored to the previous model, will Japan emerge with a large number of talents that can rival that of Japan? For a long time, the premise of the Japanese education system has been that "no matter what the question is, there must be a standard answer."As I described in detail in Chapter 4 of "〇X-style Education" and Chapter 6 of "Deviation Value Education", this kind of education system is the chief culprit of the decline in Japanese IQ (Figure 7-1).

Figure 7-1 Compared with other countries, the learning ability of Japanese students is declining year by year
Teachers implement the teaching according to the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education. During the teaching process, the teacher tells the students the answers, and then checks whether the students have memorized the answers through tests and quizzes. This method of education produces people who "can't think". In the era of industrialization, under the premise of achieving absolute egalitarianism, this kind of education system can be said to be beneficial, but that era has passed; now is the era of the Internet, and when encountering problems, you only need to enter a few keywords on the Internet , you can get the answer you want.So in this era, do we still need that kind of education model?

Therefore, in the current Internet age, it is most valuable to study things that have no standard answers. If you don't understand this, then there will be no education in the 21st century, but why are our officials, teachers and parents just not aware of this? The so-called guidelines of Japanese education refer to the premise of "everything has a standard answer" stipulated by the Ministry of Education. Now, the question one has to ask is: "Is this premise true?" However, no such question was raised by anyone at the Education Freshman Conference, and neither in the previous report nor in the newly formed report. If you think carefully about such questions as "what changes will happen to the world in the 21st century" and "why Japan will be in recession for a long time", and then think about "what kind of talents will be needed in the future", "in order to cultivate If there are such talents, what should the school do?" I think the government's education report will definitely not be what it is now.
