Chapter 40 12. Develop a New China

The modernization of New China is unfolding across the country.Today, in remote cities like Yongning County in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, residents can drink clean drinking water. Residents here have been unable to drink clean drinking water in the past because the fluorine and iron levels in the water in the area exceeded the standard. And the development of the west includes policies in various aspects such as politics, economy and society at the same time. China's goal is to narrow the gap between the developed eastern coastal regions and the less developed western regions. In other words, we must further develop China, especially marching into the western region!

Therefore, in addition to the existing engineering projects in the most developed regions of China, new large-scale construction engineering and urban planning projects will also be implemented in other regions. Major engineering projects will be carried out in various fields to further expand domestic demand and promote the steady and rapid development of the western region. Compared with the eastern coastal areas, the west is an underdeveloped area. In 2010, the National Committee of China is expected to allocate a budget of 78 billion euros for development and reform projects. There are a large number of related projects, covering provinces and cities including Changsha City in Hunan Province (close to Guangdong Province), Kunming City in Yunnan Province (close to Myanmar and Vietnam), Leshan City and Jiangyou City in Sichuan Province, Guiyang City in Guizhou Province (close to Chongqing City), Shaanxi Province Xi'an city (located in the central plain of China) and so on.

China's western modernization plan includes all aspects of engineering construction, such as many engineering projects related to fast communication: construction of modern railway lines, construction of national roads, highways, airports, hydroelectric or solar power stations, wind power stations, civilian nuclear power stations, direct power supply networks , open-pit mine coalfield, farmland irrigation system and so on. The population of western China only accounts for 23% of the total population, but this vast area is rich in mineral resources. This part of mainland China also has abundant energy resources, such as hydropower resources, as well as abundant tourism resources and arable land resources.Rivers originating from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau can provide nearly 700 million kilowatts of electricity, making China the world's largest hydropower producer.

For Chinese companies and foreign companies, the western region of China will bring new development opportunities. The western region is a priority area in China's internal planning, and the government will invest 500 billion euros in infrastructure construction in the west. In the ten years from 2000 to 2009, in the process of China's western development, 120 new major engineering projects have been completed successively. The investment in this area is very huge. While the West is still lagging behind at the moment, it won't last long! The economic cooperation between the west and the east and the trade with foreign countries have just begun.
