Chapter 38 10. Bold Architecture

While the whole world is locked in an architectural competition and keen to build bold towers and skyscrapers, China is not lagging behind in achievements and projects, which can be called a competition without borders! Whether it's in Hong Kong, Beijing or Pudong (Shanghai's business district) or other Chinese cities like Shenzhen, China has a big preference for tall buildings and towers. China has become a laboratory for bold urban architecture, where Chinese and international architects compete to showcase their creativity. These cities rival Manhattan in height, grand design, and technological prowess.

The headquarters of China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC) in Shanghai follows a bold architectural design concept: two "twin" 50-story buildings surround two smaller towers, and the wave shape is reminiscent of the ocean, like An ocean liner. CCTV is one of the great achievements in modern architecture. It seems to break the law of gravity: two anti-"L"-shaped buildings soar into the sky, connected at the highest point as one, and the oval windows are bright and clean. Still in Beijing, among the many magnificent buildings, the most worth mentioning is the new Beijing Opera House, which was designed and built by French designer Paul Andrew. This downtown dome sits in the middle of a lake.It contains three halls with a capacity of 5,000 people, which are used to perform dance, drama and music respectively.

There is also the HSBC Building in Hong Kong, China, which is 305 meters high, and the two outstretched "masts" are as high as 367.4 meters. Also in this city is the International Finance Center Tower, at 416 meters high, one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. Completed in 2010, the International Trade Center is 484 meters high and is also located in Hong Kong.
