Chapter 15 12. China's future challenges

China's new economic growth requires continued reforms.That means modernizing the economy, implementing territorial planning, and moving from mass production to high-quality operational technology. Its goals are to protect natural resources, promote clean energy and create a good environment. Then, it's about eliminating inequality, sustaining rapid growth, and governing cities that grow at the expense of rural areas.Like traffic management, urban and rural infrastructure construction will also become a focus. In addition to transportation, China, like other developing countries, also faces other urgent problems and challenges: the supply of drinking water and sanitation infrastructure, solid waste problems, water pollution, air pollution, water security in rural areas, Food standard issues, social housing issues and living environment, etc.

In addition, other challenges await China: sustainable management of the environment, public health and improvement of national health, civil rights, education, training, employment, culture, etc. Of course, China's cities have made remarkable progress in terms of drinking water supply, health care and education.However, China still needs to continue to work hard for the broader masses of the people, and to be in line with the air pollution and sulfur dioxide emission control standards set by developed countries and the World Health Organization. Today, more than 30% of China's urban population is suffering from environmental pollution.That's why CO2 reduction, waste disposal, sanitation, resource economy, clean energy, reforestation, biodiversity and environmental improvement are priorities!

However, there are other issues related to the living environment: social housing issues, housing construction and management issues, property market regulation, employment, price stability, etc. Therefore, taking rural areas as an example, government agencies must ensure the supply of drinking water for the 60 million rural population, invest more financial resources to subsidize consumption, and increase the channels for rural labor to change jobs, etc. In order to do this, China needs to solve the following problems: Unbalanced development among provinces; The gap in people's living standards is too large;

Excessive consumption of resources and energy; environmental pressures due to past problems; Problems posed by economic growth and modernization. As a "developed country" that is always developing, China must face these problems.To bridge all these gaps is undoubtedly a rather difficult challenge for a country like China that wants to achieve all goals at the same time! The challenges facing China and its people are enormous: labor costs, social reform, environmental sustainability, quality of life, education for all, modernization, transparency, rebalancing, and more.Meeting these challenges requires courage, ability, will of steel and agility!

Likewise, even if the efforts made in recent years are evident, there are other challenges in China's current reforms: more democratic governance, participation in public affairs, development and encouragement of individual freedom, transformation, and anticipation of underlying systemic, social and capacity for economic crisis. In this land with the fastest and most changing history and modernization process in the world, China must continue to adhere to the bold and pragmatic spirit on the road of reform in order to achieve its leading position in the world and present a new situation.

However, there is still a lot of work to be done... Chinese leaders realize the value of the development model of Western countries, but they do not want to simply copy Western systems and ideas. Chinese leaders have made an in-depth analysis of this to avoid making the same mistakes as in the past, leading to the same results, and also avoid repeating the mistakes of the current turmoil in the West, making the impossible possible.China has a rich culture and once these ambitions are realized, it will mark the overall rise of China, and China will go to the world and become a fairer and more harmonious country
