Chapter 8 ☆Curriculum

unfinished words Now that I have entered the seventies, I often think "Now is the time to organize my life.", "Why am I living?", "What is the mission God gave me?" Have I completed my life? mission?Of course, these are unanswerable. My purpose in writing this book is to review my life. However, when I finished writing this book, for some reason, I suddenly felt empty in my heart. Now, it seems that there is still a lot to say, and I feel a little regretful. Therefore, at the end of this book, I would like to add some words that I want to say. Throughout my career, I have been asked, "What is education?"

My whole life seems to have an indissoluble bond with "education". Until now, many people still ask me about "education". I divide the era we live in into three parts, namely people, space and time. "People" of this era live in "space" called society in the "time" of the 21st century. This era is constantly changing, as time goes by, society is constantly changing, and the people who make up society are constantly changing.Because of the continuous updating of these three elements, one era will be behind the scenes, and another new era will come.

In the changing times, education is also changing rapidly. As people change in space and time, so does education. For example, the advent of the information society has produced information-related education; with the advent of globalization, foreign language education has become more and more important. However, in this change, there are also things that remain unchanged. No matter when and where the center of education is, it is always "people".That is to say, "person" is always the center of education, which means the importance of human nature education. No matter how education changes, the basic scope of human nature education will not change, and of course, it cannot change.

Before I became a mother, I have been working in the front line of education. My educational philosophy is to first teach children how to behave, and I also educate my children in this way. At home, I never teach children English, mathematics and other content that can be learned in school, but teach children the life posture they should have in the world.Every week I will formulate several themes to educate children on human nature. Monday is an education in human knowledge.Let children know why human beings survive, how the relationship between people is formed, what is the concept of family and other basic common sense about human life.

Tuesday's theme is nature.Take the children to walk in nearby parks, lakes and other places where they can get in touch with nature, and give them time to observe nature directly, let them listen to birdsong, smell the fragrance of flowers, watch insects, and feel nature directly. The reason why I think it is very important to be in contact with nature is because children can gain rich perceptual knowledge from nature.Listening to birdsong and raindrops can cultivate children's perceptual knowledge of music.Experiencing the beautiful scenery in nature can cultivate children's perceptual knowledge of art.Children's perception of nature is an important part of human perceptual knowledge.

Wednesday's theme is science.I have always believed that "all human inventions come from nature".What I teach children is not academic scientific knowledge, but science that we can feel. I let children realize that science comes from nature.Watt was inspired by the boiling kettle and invented the steam engine. Newton discovered the gravitational force from the falling apples. These are all derived from nature. This can cultivate children's observation ability, and also help children develop the habit of observing the same thing from multiple angles and thinking about the same problem from multiple angles.

Thursday's theme is a discussion of the supernatural.Topics range from what God is to myths, legends and more as we know them.Greek mythology and biblical stories are also good topics. This is very helpful for children to imagine a better society and form correct values. Friday collects other topics from the week to discuss. For example, science born from the laws of nature, what changes has this science brought to people's lives. In such a society, what is the meaning of human existence can become the subject of our conversation. And this is the "total education" that I pursue all my life.

For human beings, a person needs to master knowledge, perceptual knowledge and social relationship. However, if only knowledge education is carried out, people will lose perceptual knowledge and sociality.A comprehensive study of these three aspects is holistic education. I think my children's success is not just the result of hard work in school. They have received humanities education in humanities, nature, science, philosophy, etc. since childhood. If children do not have such a foundation, there will be no subsequent success. For children, human nature is the foundation, on which they can learn knowledge to be successful.

President Roosevelt of the United States once said: "Teaching people knowledge without educating their moral character is a threat to society." True education not only imparts knowledge, but also teaches moral character, that is, human nature.Education without humanity will only bring threats to society. Looking at modern education in South Korea, I always feel that there are some flaws. After careful analysis, this flaw is that education is divorced from human nature. Although all Koreans are emphasizing: "The school should be a place for human nature education." However, when you really come to the school, you will find that it pays more attention to the education of knowledge and ignores the education of morality.

This phenomenon does not only appear in schools, but also in families.Children who are indoctrinated in school are also coerced into knowledge at home. Education without human nature education is like a house without a pillar. It looks magnificent on the surface, but it cannot withstand the wind and rain.I am extremely disturbed that Korean education and the children who receive it will collapse in an instant at some point. In order to get rid of this uneasiness, it is time to start education that focuses on human nature. The starting point of human nature education is the family. I hope parents must keep this in mind.

the strength that supports my life People are ultimately fragile, but even the most vulnerable people can exert their greatest energy if they are supported by some kind of purpose and strength. For me, there is a lot of strength that supports me. The first strength comes from my father. My father set an example and let me know how a person should live.My father's beliefs, learning attitudes, and education concepts for children have had a great impact on me, and they have been reflected in every corner of my life. When I was studying abroad, I only ate one meal a day and worked part-time while studying. I was exhausted physically and mentally.Frankly speaking, at that time, I also had the idea of giving up my studies and returning to China. At that time, my father came to the United States once, but because of his tight schedule, we only met once at the airport. My father looked at my haggard face and said nothing for a long time. Finally, he said forcefully: "Binghui, a person can only do great things in the future if he knows what it's like to be hungry." These words from my father cheered me up again. My father often gave me strength like this, and until he passed away, his words still supported my life. The second force comes from my children. Now, as soon as I close my eyes, I see Alice, Nancy and Peter in my mind. The way we met for the first time, the way they went to school, and the way they looked after they got married. The encounter with the children became a turning point in my life.Since then, the center of my life has shifted from myself to my children. The children let me understand the meaning of giving, and what is exchanged for giving is joy. One might ask, is it possible that you would have a happier life without these three children.I smiled and replied that my life really started when I met my three children, and I couldn't have a happier life than I am now. The last strength is because I am a Korean, with Korean blood flowing through my body.South Korea has been controlled by Japan, Russia, the United States and other powers in history. The purpose of my study abroad in the United States is to become a talent who can contribute to the development of the motherland. However, the motherland was still artificially divided. My father fought for his country all his life.In order to seek independence, his father dedicated all the property left by his ancestors. After liberation, he fought alone at the forefront of politics, and I inherited my father's beliefs. I always keep in mind that I am a Korean, and I must work hard for the prosperity of the motherland.Living in the United States made this idea even more urgent.Every Korean in a foreign country represents Korea. The outstanding performances of baseball players Kim Byung-hyun and Park Chan-ho from overseas Chinese in the United States always touch the hearts of every Korean, because everyone is Korean. Today, we are still silent under the oppression of foreign powers, but I think our motherland will become a powerful country one day.Revitalizing our country through education is one of the things that drives me to this day. A person's progress must have the power to guide his life.In this sense, Korean mothers already have the motivation of "children" in life. Living as a woman in Korea is hard work, with a lot of burdens besides taking care of the children. After finding the motivation to support life, mothers have to overcome all difficulties and transform this motivation into strength, which is the foundation of mother's life. Words to children who have become parents Sometimes my kids ask me: "Mom, why are you willing to pay so much for us?" After their children grow up, get married and have children, they begin to understand the hardships of being a parent and educating their children. As the saying goes, "If you don't raise children, you don't know your parents' kindness." The kids say, "We're never as good as Mom." But I understand that just as I'm walking in my father's footsteps and teaching my kids what I've learned, my kids are walking in my footsteps. , to teach their children what they have learned. They have experienced the joy of sacrificing for their children, and they already know how to educate their children. Although I seldom interfere with how children educate their children, I must say a word to them now: "The method of educating children has not been lost from me. My efforts have been extended to your next generation..." Every generation is a bridge, a bridge to carry forward fine traditions and inherit advanced culture... This is not only for my children, but also my hope for all mothers. Now that I have become a mother, no matter how hard and tired I have to bear it with confidence. If others have not done it, please read this book and do it!
