Chapter 29 Chapter 9 The Truth of Character

"Character is destiny", this sentence is only one-sided truth. The complete statement is: character + values = destiny. We eat when we are hungry, we eat when we eat, and we are driven by instinct throughout our lives. At the same time, throughout our lifetime, we are also driven by character and values (culture).Character and values (culture) together form our second nature. There are already too many theories and viewpoints on personality analysis, such as the Enneagram, personality chromatics, and so on.I would like to point out some of their shortcomings. (1) The author divides a certain personality, only tells you "what", describes some personality manifestations, and lets you check in, but can't tell you "why".For example, it tells you that it is a "perfect personality", and when you look at its description, wow, it fits you.But beyond that, what else?

Not understanding why a person has a certain personality is the theoretical failure of this type of personality analysis. It's the equivalent of just seeing a store clerk and a friend smile at you without knowing that the two smiles, psychologically motivated, have completely different meanings. (2) The author tells you that people with a certain personality type are confident, humorous, tactful, and aggressive, but the problem is that people are very complicated, and many people have such things. People of one personality type differ greatly in other respects! (3) This type of personality analysis never explores people's deep psychological motivations, but if we don't understand the psychological motivations that drive a person's actions, we don't know who he is and what he wants to do.

(4) Finally, this type of character analysis presupposes that man has no values involved in his behaviour. This is not true.In fact, what drives a person's behavior is not only desire, character, but also values. Here we have to ask: what is character for a person?Character is not born, so why should it be configured on a person? The answer is: character is an automatic device for people to connect with the outside world. If we had to rely on our brains to think and respond every time we deal with the outside world, then the brain would be too busy at all, and life would appear extremely unstable.Personality does this for you, an unconscious way of responding to the world.A person has a typical personality or a combination of multiple personalities, which is to defend against possible harm in the world and protect himself psychologically. It may, of course, be the case that, because of the disregard of reality, the character can sometimes work against a person instead.

Character is a kind of psychological protection of people, and this is its truth.Based on this, I divide people's typical personalities into six types: inferiority type, possessive type, aggressive type, show type, show-off type, and gentle type. Some people's personality traits may have two or more of the above personality types.
