Chapter 24 talk show

This is of course the best way to speak.Impromptu speaking is an absolute favorite with audiences and a favorite of many of the most capable speakers. "Extemporaneous speaking" is sometimes interpreted as speaking without preparation, and in many cases it is, but we do not strongly recommend speaking without preparation to young speakers. On the contrary, to give a good speech without notes, we need to do all the preparations that we discussed fully in the "Fluency" chapter, and then rely on what we learned in "Inspiration of the Moment" to pick out some of your thoughts and organize some words .But you'd better remember that to maximize the effect of inspiration in the moment, you need to have inspiration yourself, then include it in your speech, and finally pass it on to the audience.

You get closer to your audience if you improvise. In a sense, they understand the task ahead of you and give you sympathy points.Impromptu, you can't stop and flip through your notes -- you can keep your eyes burning with information, grabbing your audience with your eyes. When you see the effect of your enthusiastic, natural speech on the faces of your audience, you will feel their response yourself. Sentences written in a study can easily become dull and dull, and then they come to life in front of an audience. When you think and speak, you retain all the passion of thought you were born with. You expand on one point or omit another as the occasion or the mood of the audience demands. This method cannot be adapted to every speaker, it is the most difficult of the speech methods, and it is impossible to use it successfully without a lot of practice, but it is the best method that all should strive for.

The risk with this approach is that you may be led away from the main topic to some trivial matter. To avoid this, strictly follow your mental outline.Practice speaking with a memorized note until you can master it.Join a debating club - talk, talk, talk, always improvising. You might "disgrace yourself" once or twice, but isn't that a nice price to pay for success? Notes are like a crutch, a sign of vulnerability.Remember, the strength of your presentation depends in part on how your audience perceives you. When General Grant became president, his speeches were more authoritative than when he was just a farmer in Missouri. If you want to appear powerful, do so.Take notes in your head instead of on paper.
