Chapter 7 Realize that the wonderfulness of life comes from the purpose

People who do not strive with the right goal are like children who have been demoralized from playing. They do not know what they want and always pout their lips in a daze.Action itself determines life.Determining a clear goal in life is crucial to life, or to any action. In life, many people lack clear goals. They are like ants on a globe, looking hard.I am always climbing, but I can never find the end, the destination.Likewise, having no purpose in life, and no focus in your activities, will lead to wasted effort and no sense of fulfillment or satisfaction.Activity without purpose is tantamount to sleepwalking, and life without purpose is nothing but an illusion. Many people mistake some unplanned activities for the direction of life. Even if they spend a lot of effort, because they don't have a clear goal, they still can't get anywhere in the end.

To climb to a higher point in life, of course you must take practical actions, but the most important thing is to find your own direction and destination. If there is no clear goal, the higher place is just a castle in the air, and it is out of sight and out of reach. If we want to make breakthroughs in our lives and reach new and valuable destinations, we must first determine what those destinations are.Only when the destination is set, the journey of life will have direction, progress, end and satisfaction. Setting clear goals is the starting point for all achievements.A lot of people fail because they don't set clear goals and never take their first steps. There is no doubt that society has a powerful assimilating effect, which has caused many of us to deviate from the true meaning of life and lose our true feelings and nature. But only what we really want can satisfy us.By giving up our own wants and needs, we become insensitive, indifferent to anything.

Everyone has dreams.Real dreams, dreams in sleep, dreams written in composition books as a child, daydreams while chatting with friends. However, after the age of dreaming has passed, why do you feel melancholy or lost in the face of reality?Of course, the most ideal is to "make dreams come true". Although not everyone can do this, it is not impossible.Once a person has a dream and a goal, he will naturally exert more effort to realize it, and the brilliance of life can be seen from this.why? In the process of striving for the realization of ideals, the joy of life will appear, and life will be more energetic, and at this time, the potential brain power of human beings will also be brought into play. The principle of often and consciously creating situations that make life more successful, richer, and more enjoyable is called purpose catalysis.

A 1952 issue of Life magazine featured John Gold's story. When Gord was 15 years old, he overheard his elderly grandmother say with great emotion: "It would be great if I could try more things when I was young." The old grandmother also has irreparable regrets. So, he sat down immediately, listed in detail what he wanted to do in his life, and called it "John Gold's dream list". In all, he wrote down 127 detailed and specific goals. It includes 10 rivers to explore and 17 mountains to conquer. He even wants to travel to every country in the world, and he also wants to learn to fly a plane and learn to ride a horse. He even has to finish reading the "Bible" and the classic works of more than a dozen great scholars such as Plato, Aristotle, Dickens, and Shakespeare. His dreams include riding in a submarine, playing the piano, and finishing reading the Encyclopedia Britannica.Of course, there is another important item, he will get married and have children.

Gord looked at this "dream list" several times a day, and he memorized the entire list by heart and by heart.Gord's goals, even after more than half a century, are still magnificent and unattainable. But how did he accomplish it?At the time of his death, Gold had circumnavigated the world four times, achieving 103 of 127 goals. With the goals he conceived and accomplished in his life, he narrated the splendor and achievements of his life, and illuminated the world.Whenever we read Gord's story, we can't help but think of a sentence: life is great because of dreams. A college student often publishes works in newspapers. He has a high talent for journalism and has the potential to engage in a journalism career. This college student did not choose to engage in journalism when he graduated. He felt that journalism was just reporting some trivial things, and he was unwilling to do it.But 5 years later, he said regretfully: "Honestly speaking, my current salary is not low. The company has a future and my job is secure, but I am not paying attention at all. I regret that I did not join the journalism right after graduation." Work." From this student, you can see that he is dissatisfied with his current job, and has developed disgust for his job in three to five years. He has no future at all.Unless he resigns immediately and joins journalism.

If the student had set precise goals in journalism, perhaps he would have achieved some success in this area. The fundamental reason for his failure is that he did not set his career goals early. There is a goal to be successful.Goals are the real motivation for your desired achievements and careers. William Mastern, a very prominent psychologist, once asked 3000 people the same question: "Why do you live?" The results showed that 94% of the people said they had no clear purpose in life. 94%!As the saying goes: "Everyone is alive, but not everyone is really alive." Mastern's research unfortunately confirmed this. Many lived what Thoreau called "quiet lives of despair."They endure, wait, wandering in the true meaning of life, expecting their life goals to come instantly under the inspiration of a certain god.At the same time, they are just living, repeating the mechanical actions of life, and they have never felt the flash of life. They watch the light of their lives fly by and grow more and more terrified that they will reach the end of their lives before they have experienced any real joy and meaning in life.

From discovering goals to having goals, this is a process, and the whole process cannot be completed overnight. It requires introspection and patience—two qualities that are difficult for most of us to achieve. But once you determine your goal, it's like injecting a new vitality into your soul, and a sense of stability and direction suddenly arises. Identifying your own goals will do the same for you!The following exercises are the steps I have established myself when looking for goals. You may wish to try it and see how it works.Take out a blank piece of paper and write "what impression do I want to make".Make a list of the qualities, behaviors, and traits that you would like your friends, spouse, children, partners, groups, or even the world to remember you to remember. If you have a special relationship with some other groups, such as churches, clubs, sports teams, etc., list them as well.In the process of listing, you will gradually discover your own true value and the source of life meaning.

Frost, a famous American poet, was deeply moved when he came into contact with Shelley's poems for the first time: "Ah! This is exactly what I want." He felt that he and Shelley's works were one.So for me, it doesn't matter what I was or what I am now, what I want to achieve in the future is the most important thing.I have to have big dreams for the future, otherwise I won't be able to accomplish anything, and maybe nothing at all. People who are eager to achieve success through their own struggle should not avoid the subject of goal positioning.People really need a height, a height beyond themselves, a height of pursuing truth.People should set a high-level goal for their own life, a high-level goal that will never give up until the goal is reached.Let us find a dream and set a goal for ourselves, because - life is great because of dreams!

Similarly, leaders are the same. Whether your life and your company are wonderful or not comes entirely from your goals.
