Chapter 1 foreword

I often think, what is the most important thing for a business leader? Beginning in 1912, I gave a course of educational lectures in New York to improve the abilities of those professional leaders.The lectures are mainly to train them with practical experience at the beginning, so that they can show their management talents in business management, business negotiations and group meetings.After a year of lectures, I gradually discovered that these people not only need to display their own talents in daily management work, but also how to strengthen the skills of getting along with others as a potential force of management.

I also gradually discovered that I myself need more and more training in this area.Now, when I recall my groping in the dark, I am filled with emotion.I wish I had a book like this in my hands 20 years ago to improve my skills in this area, it would be invaluable to me! The problem that every manager must face is, in addition to improving the performance of the company and improving the quality of personnel, he must also learn how to get along with others.If you are a manager, the biggest difficulty you will face will be dealing with people.However, even if you are an accountant or a housewife, an architect, an engineer, this problem cannot be ignored.

A few years ago, we conducted a research study sponsored by the Carnegie Foundation and made an important finding—only about 15% of a person's high salary is due to his technical knowledge. The other 85% depends on his ability to deal with people, that is, the display of his personal qualities and talents.This finding was later confirmed by the Carnegie Institution of Technology. For many years, I have been giving quarterly lectures at the Engineers Club in Philadelphia, as well as at the New York Chapter of the Society of Electrical Engineers in the United States, and about 1,500 people have heard my lectures.After years of observation, I have found that the engineers who come to me are not the ones with the highest level of engineering knowledge who get paid the most, but those leaders who know how to get along with people, and they all know how to manage themselves. Wisdom is integrated into the leadership ability that oneself possesses.

You can calm down and think about it. We spend money to hire engineering, accounting, construction and other professional technical talents in the market. There are many such people in the labor market.However, if a person not only has professional technical knowledge, but also is good at expressing his inner thoughts, and at the same time has leadership skills and the ability to inspire the talents of others, then his income will inevitably be higher than others. So, have you ever wondered where to buy this talent, which is more precious than anything in the world? The University of Chicago and the Youth Federation once conducted a survey on the topic of what do leaders care about?The results show that the top concern of many leaders is the profit of the enterprise, followed by how to understand employees, how to get along with employees, how to make employees like themselves, and how to get employees to agree with them...

So, the investigative committee decided to offer a course on leadership art and management wisdom for such leaders.They tried their best to find teaching materials on the subject, but found nothing.Because many people want to read such a book, but there is no such book on the market, so I have the courage to write a book, originally written for my training class students, it is the book in front of you, I hope you will like it. It can be said without humility that I have devoted my whole life to the study of human nature. Using the knowledge of psychology and sociology, I have explored and analyzed the common psychological characteristics of human beings, and have summed up a set of systematic successful management theories. Based on the stories of common leaders' constant efforts to achieve success, through speeches and books, it arouses the confidence of countless lost leaders and inspires them to achieve more brilliant achievements.
