Chapter 190 Chapter 189 Jingdi Yuwen

Emperor Jing of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, originally named Yan, later changed his name to Chan, father Xuandi Yu Wenyun, and mother court lady Zhu Manyue. After Yu Wenyun became emperor, in the first month of the first year of Dacheng (579 A.D.), 7-year-old Yu Wenchan was established as the king of Lu, and a few days later, he was established as the crown prince. One month later, Zi Wenyun claimed to be Emperor Tianyuan, and passed the throne to Prince Yuwenchan, who was called Emperor Jing and changed to Yuan Daxiang. In July of the same year, the 7-year-old little emperor married Sima Lingji, the daughter of the eldest son Sima Xiaonan, as queen.

In May of the second year of Daxiang (AD 580), Emperor Tianyuan Yu Wenyun died of illness. The 8-year-old young emperor Yu Wenchan was naturally unable to govern state affairs, so the ministers jointly recommended Yang Jian, the head of the Tianyuan Emperor, to assist the government as the prime minister and the military governor. All state affairs are decided by Yang Jian, thus, Emperor Jing Yuwen Chan became a decoration. After Yang Jian took charge of the government, he quickly reorganized the central government and appointed a group of ministers with political foresight, such as Li Delin, Gao Ying, and Yu Jicai. He also abolished Emperor Xuan's tyrannical government, practiced frugality, deleted and amended the old laws, and restored the legal system.Yang Jian also made his eldest son Yang Yong the governor of Luozhou and the governor of Tokyo Otsuka, who was in charge of the former Northern Qi area to strengthen control. With the consolidation of power, Yang Jian himself became king at the end of this year.

In February of the third year of Xiangxiang, Yu Wenchan was forced to give way to Yang Jian.Yang Jian changed the name of the country to Sui, and named Yu Wenchan the Duke of Jie. Three months later, Yang Jian sent someone to kill Yu Wenchan again, and buried him in Gongling, with the posthumous title of "Emperor Jing".The Northern Zhou Dynasty officially perished.
