Think about the role of life without hope, think about a young man who has nowhere to go when he just left home, think about the future of a baby in the Qin Dynasty is mostly empty in the head of Guizhou岁月,漫长而又空洞。我们何须说出黑夜对思想的困扰,何须谈论一场单薄孤苦的雨水,当一切都因色泽阴冷而苦痛不堪,这时候,说出忧郁还有什么新意。我们还是想想那些快乐忘形的岁月吧——作为一个壮士,你们不死则已,死就要死得以谋求自己的大名!你们不愿意在有生之年成为公侯将相吗?你们的人生追求仅仅限于免于饥寒和戍守边疆吗?——有人说了,那些王侯将相都是有种的,我们身上没有他们家族的DNA,我们做梦也别想当王侯将相了。是吗?王侯将相,难道真的有种吗?王侯将相宁有种乎!我们今天就此起大事,列位只消不计生死,不顾疲劳,不畏艰险,辗转于秦王朝山河大地,斩将夺城,立下汗马功劳,我陈胜因功授封,若不能保你们名忝王侯之位,身列将相之行,举人生荣耀只大名,我陈胜其有如此!”说完,一剑向帐门的柱子击去,劈开深深一道口子。 众徒属无不雀跃,齐声高呼:“敬——受——命——”这些徒属回去之后,经过史书失载的一些处心积虑的斗争,言语激发或者是命令强制,终于让九百人跟随他们造反。 就是所谓时势造英雄,俊雄豪杰陈胜振臂一呼,九百戍卒与天下之士奋起相应,云合雾集,飘至风起。与其苟延残喘,不如烈烈燃烧!他们从此走上了一条激情燃烧的澎湃人生之路。 陈胜喊出的“王侯将相宁有种乎”这句口号,实际上不是对自己说的,而是以此饵钓众人的,是对士卒们说的。陈胜认为“匹夫皆可谋为王侯将相”,人活着就要“举大名”——陈胜用这种高端的“自我实现”(马斯洛曲线中的高端需求)来激励那帮士卒拼死反秦,而不是像水泊梁山那样仅仅为了“大块儿吃肉、大碗喝酒”(那只是马斯洛曲线中的低端需求)。这就更显出了陈胜的进取精神,是高出了水泊梁山好汉们一个层次的。 正是由于陈胜长期以来对于功成名就一直有着高度的关注(为此常常弄得自己怅然不乐),所以才会想出这个口号吧。 “王侯”,指的是诸侯王,以及有封国的侯;“将相”指的是诸侯国里边,王侯下面级别最高的官僚——将相。所以,这个口号实现的前提,是要回复分封,于是它带有很大的回复分封制的指向。“谋求封王封侯”这样的口号,而并不是“为农民阶级谋求推翻残酷剥削”,这也显出了这场运动,未必是教科书上异口同声说的那样,而更像是为了复国和在复国成功后的求分封,再加上他事前的“大楚兴”的提法,以及陈胜接下来将发生的一系列政治行为,使得我们对于这场运动的性质,应该重新认识。而且这九百人,未必就是农民,包括陈胜吴广。“闾左九百人”,不管农村有没有闾,城市里面的街区是叫闾的。 陈胜、吴广带领着八九百追随者——这些人中的百分之九十都将活不过下一个春季——手中使用的据说都是“斩木为兵,揭竿为旗”的粗劣(但是非常环保)的木质武器,很快就把大泽乡拿下来了。 其实这九百人使用大棒子,真的是那么惨吗?也未必! 九百戍卒前往渔阳边境,县里应该自备甲胃武器,随队伍运送北上。所以,我们估计这九百人,应该是被武装起来的。虽然不至于像美国大兵那样武装到了每个牙齿,但拎着纯环保的木头棒子,似乎也并不必要。 贾谊在《过秦论》中说陈胜的这几百戍卒使用的是“斩木为兵,揭竿为旗”,具体是锄头(鉏)、无齿耙(耰)、木棍子(梃)什么的。不足为信。木棍子也许还情有可原,锄头、无齿耙纯粹是无稽之谈。这帮人是集结起来北上的戍卒,随身携带着锄头、无齿耙干什么呀! 贾谊是个汉朝文人,和所有文人一样,写文章喜欢制造强烈对比,他故意把起义军武器装备写得很差,目的不外乎是想和他的上文对比着说:从前秦国能把战国六雄武器精良的百万正规军打得一败涂地,却不能抵抗装备低劣的陈胜。秦还是那个秦,为什么前边那么强,后边如此弱呢?都是因为老秦“仁义不施而攻守之势异也”——建朝以后不修“仁义”了。为了构制对比,贾谊故意把陈胜的装备写得很差。well!这大约就是以文害意吧。这帮文人啊,真是拿他们没办法。 不管武器到底是不是木棍子,起义军很快把大泽乡拿下来了。大泽乡现在叫刘村,后来取消生产队以后,连刘村都没有了,平坦的田野上如今尽是绿油油的麦苗,当地人为了纪念陈胜,就找了一个土坡,硬说那是陈胜起义的地方,还在坡下雕刻了陈胜的石像。石像比历史上实际的陈胜年轻,大眼睛有点像谢霆锋,唇角也轮廓分明,正在呐喊,手里挥舞着大棒子。 攻占大泽乡以后,义军又就近攻破了蕲县的城墙,他们可以打开蕲县里的兵器库、兵车库,获得秦人高效管理制造出的精良武器和战车,这帮人总算可以把自己全副武装起来了,不至于再被贾谊笑话了。 陈胜给自己弄了一套最精良的皮甲,非常坚固,又弄了两支锐利的大戟,叫副官给他拿着。这就是史书上所说的陈胜“身披坚执锐”,披着坚甲,执着锐兵。 为什么拿两支大戟呢?当时的青铜兵器有点脆,在格斗中互相撞击,就会断掉。甚至插到敌人身体里,比如插进了排骨里,一拧一剜,一不小心,排骨竟可能把戟尖拗断。这固然能让受伤者非常难受,但这个大戟也就不好再用了,所以我们建议让陈胜拿两支戟。 陈胜捏着两支大戟,披着坚甲(当时最高级的皮甲是犀牛或者鲨鱼皮的),乘坐战车,迅速向西推进,兵锋直指两百公里以西的楚郡郡治——陈城。陈胜急急地朝陈城杀去,就像暴露在野外的老鼠急于奔回安全的鼠窝。陈城是他从前活动过的地方,那里有他的一些“故人”——而且陈城是从前楚国一度的国都,那里的反秦和复国势力比较强,一度也曾经叛秦造反过,后来被王翦镇压了(就是战国时代王翦进攻过的“反城”)。总之那里是个反秦复楚势力比较雄厚的有基础的地方。 陈胜的队伍沿途顺利攻下安徽亳县、河南永城、柘县、鹿邑等地。 在向西(陈城)推进的征程上,这帮人没有什么可吃的,于是他们就“望屋而食”(贾谊语),就是跑进人家屋子里,挤近人家的饭桌边,说:现在已经是不分你我财产的时代了,咱们一起吃吧。于是就挤进目瞪口呆的老乡们肩膀间,一起吃。当然这么说比较夸张,实际上是在有屋宇庐舍的地方,向当地的头面人物去征,这些人迫于军队的威势,只好组织老百姓交来粮给起义的队伍。 陈胜起义的消息很快和公元前209年夏天的风一起四处吹散,天下之人云集响应,许多人都自己裹了粮食,像影子一样追从着陈胜(这些人能自带粮食,说明还不是赤贫者,那就也应包括城邑里边因为受秦政迫害而愿意反秦的人)。当队伍终于推进到陈城的时候,陈胜回头一看,身后已经会聚战车六七百乘,战马骑兵千余骑,步卒数万人(这些兵源,多数应该来自被攻破的城邑里被收编的地方武装)。 陈城是一个大郡的郡治,可是郡守先生却不在,可能是望风而逃了,或者去度假村开理论工作务虚会去了。只有他的属官(守丞)站在城门顶上的望楼里(这里比较高,俗语所谓“城门楼子”,它像个碉堡,耸在城顶,借助内窄外宽的射击孔,居高射击)指挥战斗。守丞指挥了一会儿,一不小心,却把自己弄死了——可能是谁射箭走火了,打着他了。或者是跟他有仇的城里恶少年,从他背后开了枪。关于这些恶少年的事迹,我们随后再说。当然还有可能是城里的亲陈胜“地下党”(豪杰),组织自己的子弟干掉了他,或者是被攻城的士兵射死了。于是陈城守兵大乱,指挥失灵。陈胜的队伍遂像蚂蚁一样,纷纷爬城而入。原本可以凭借坚城抵抗几个月的郡治级的大城——陈城,旋即被义军拿下了。 陈胜进入陈城以后,一贯拥楚反秦的陈城人很快聚拢在他的周围。几天之后,陈胜就召令陈城的三老(官吏)、豪杰前来开会议事。大家一致通过,把“张楚”标识为国号,就是重新张大楚国的意思!因为他们都是楚文化圈的人嘛。这个行动了也再次为这场运动说明着它的性质(如果是简单的农民起义,他应该首先把这些三老豪杰正法)。 所谓“三老”,就是陈城里的基层干部。而豪杰,在古书中,豪杰一词并不是现代意义上的武林大侠,而是家里有财有势,养着众多子弟宾客的人,他们未必是会拳脚(像后代这个词所被理解的那样),总之是地方上有财有势力的人。他们有个共同的特点,就是主张反秦,复国。 会上,三老、豪杰一致认为:“陈胜将军身披坚执锐(犀牛皮甲和两支大戟),率士卒以诛暴秦,恢复楚国社稷,可谓'存亡继绝'(把死机了的楚国重新热启动),大功大德应该为王!” 张耳、陈余却从众人中挺身而起,一揖反对道:“我们爷俩(干的)认为……” 张耳、陈余都是闻名遐尔的大豪杰,但和一般“土豪杰”(简称土豪)不同的是,他俩没有看得见的有形资产,他俩甚至还在小区门口给人打工呢。但他俩有傲视群豪的无形资产——两人从前都是战国时代翩翩浊世之佳公子魏无忌的门客。这就不同了。 有的人死了以后,名气往往会被放大。魏无忌就是这样的例子。他从前窃符救赵、联军攻秦,美名远扬,却不得志泡妞而死,迤逦到了秦汉之际,名气越来越大,越来越走红。 魏无忌的名气如此之大,就连他的两个门客——张耳、陈余,也都攀龙附凤,成了蜚声国内的人物。他俩来见陈胜的时候,陈胜及其左右将官,生平数次听说二人的贤名,久为仰慕,不能相见,如今一见立即大喜(再次可见陈胜起义前的身份应该是怎样的)。 不料,这两个人却在群英会上唱出反调,说:“秦国最是无道,断绝六国的社稷,破灭人的国家;现在又征敛无度,疲费民力(注意,他把秦朝的两条罪恶哪条放在了最前面,反映了复国是第一社会矛盾)。陈将军赤目张胆,万死不顾一生,为天下除去残害人民的无道之秦,可是现在刚刚打到陈城,就急着自立陈王,好像告诉天下人,您起义的目的是为了私利。岂不惹天下人离你而去?” “那以二位的意见呢?”陈胜说。 “您不如派人搜求六国诸侯之后人,立他们为王。这些人绝而复立,势必对您感恩戴德,同时他们利用自身的名望,一呼一喊,必然天下百应,六国旧地则不待野外交兵、攻城苦战,纷纷自动杀掉秦朝守令而反正,则反秦大势形成矣。于是您统领诸侯,兵不血刃,直据咸阳,号令这六国诸侯,因为您复立他们功劳最大,以德威服之,他们奉您为帝,则您的帝王之业可成!而今你只是急着自立为王,人们皆以为您在谋私,恐怕天下由此离您而去('今独王陈,恐天下解也')。” 我们说,这里三老、豪杰、陈胜、张耳、陈余,这一团人虽然有争议,但总体上是统一的,就是要复立楚国。我们看见,他们把复立楚国作为会议主题和成果,而不是所谓建立“农民政权”、“农民推翻地主政权”。他们有争议的地方是,这个复立的楚国,眼下应该是由陈胜为王,还是六国之后为王。 所以我们得到了一个与教科书上惊人的不同的发现,这场运动到底是什么?种种迹象表明,它是求复国的运动!当然是借助了人们受压迫残害的大背景。 曾记得,陈胜在起义前,陈胜动员他的亲密战友吴广的时候说:“如今逃亡也是死,举行大计也是死,同样的死,死国可乎?(等死,死国可乎?)” 请问一下诸位,这个“国”是哪个国?是秦朝吗,显然不可能是。这个“国”是楚国! 也就是说,陈胜起义重点的初衷很大在于回复到分封体系,而主旨不在于反地主政权和反地主剥削,具体表现就是复立楚国。他随后又喊出的政治口号“大楚兴、陈胜王”也加强证实了这一点(当然这中间还搀杂了复国后的求分封为王的个人目的)。 刚才,三老豪杰说:“陈胜复立楚国社稷,功宜为王!”——也是把陈胜的功劳认定为为楚国复国。而没有说陈胜代表农民反抗地主政权,功宜为王。张耳陈余刚才说:“夫秦为无道,破人国家,灭人社稷,绝人后世,罢百姓之力,尽百姓之财。”——这里说得很清楚,秦的第一罪状是灭了六国,断了六国的社稷,绝了六国的后,结束了分封体系,第二才是剥削严重。 所以,在这个会议上的所有人,都是把复国当做了该运动的第一要事,并且依照这个基点设计未来的走向。这场运动,主旨不是在于农民反抗地主政权,明矣! 如果你说,这些都是三老、豪杰和张耳、陈余他们说的,不是陈胜的观点,陈胜是要作为农民来起义反抗地主政权的剥削的。呵呵,我认为陈胜是不能从中摘出去的,因为他召集了与这帮三老豪杰的会议,并且全盘接受了这个会议的决策! 而且陈胜早就说了“大楚兴”、“等死,死国可乎”、“王侯将相”等话,表达了他的政治主张是指向于复国(于公)和求分封(于私,但也是建立在复国的基础上)的,对于农民利益则似乎从来没提过。他讨论下一步未来政治走向的重要会议,是召集了陈城所有的官吏豪杰们来开的,而不是召集别人。并且会议上,陈胜完全接受了这些官吏豪杰的意见。则我们可以认为,陈胜的角色和身份属性是完全融于官吏豪杰之中的,他是代表了这些官吏豪杰地主的利益的。并且我们认为,这些与会的官吏豪杰也就随后纳入了他的领导核心团队(陈胜后面的分派张耳、陈余等人为将也证明了这一点)。 则陈胜的阶层身份属性是什么,是为了什么阶层而奋斗,这次运动的目标是什么,通过这次会议,已经大致可以判定了。 陈胜与这些三老(属于官吏)、豪杰商议复国和称王的事情,说明他的领导团队的核心是这些官吏和豪杰,他是代表了这一部分人的政治利益的,并且执行了与这些人达成的政治主张的(复国)!而这个政治主张并不是为解放农民服务的。 所谓“豪杰”,也叫豪强,在历朝历代都有,不论在京城还是郡县,他们都是一股很大的力量,有财有势,互相联姻,勾结官府,欺压百姓,很多时候政府都不敢过问。 陈胜召集陈城里的三老豪杰都来议事(既有政府的官吏,又有民间的豪强,是所有社会上的中层精英力量了),商量建立政权、称王和未来发展的事情,并且落实了会议决定,说明他的政权是官吏、豪杰、地主的政权。 现代学者们一般是这个意思,秦末起义既然是农民起义,而且又胜利了,自然最后结局应该是建立了农民政权。但是似乎结局又不是农民政权。于是只好这样解释:农民起义,最后被刘邦和六国贵族这种地主篡夺了,于是建立了地主政权的汉朝。 其实,从陈胜开始,就是开始建立地主的新政权的。这从陈城会议可以看出来。从起义前和起义中陈胜的话和口号中,也可以看出。 一句话,什么都不说,光看陈胜在陈城的会议的与会人员和会议决策内容,它就不是农民起义。他的“张楚”政权,是官吏、豪杰、地主的政权。因为,参加这次会议的,都是官吏、豪杰、地主;会议讨论的,是六国地主政权对秦政权的替代,是六国地主政权的恢复——复国。 下面我们说说复国的事情。 我们说,战国六雄时代的诸侯王族们,并不是因为有“桀纣之行”而亡国。六国贵族的暴虐程度不及纣王,秦国是靠打胜仗才兼并了他们的土地,并非他们的人民要掉转枪头归服秦国。随着六国的灭亡,分封体系结束了,皇权专制时代开始了。 但分封制的存在已经有了两千多年的历史,人们并不情愿向皇权专制转型,特别是在转型以后,秦的一系列政策失误,使得人们没有从皇权专制中获得什么好处,于是以城邑豪杰、少年、平民、官吏为主导的多阶层联合行动,试图回复分封体系的运动就开始了。这是一场广泛阶层参与的社会运动,城邑平民、豪杰、士兵在里边扮演的巨大的主流角色(关于这一点我们后面再给例证),而农民遭受地主剥削进行反抗,并不是这场运动的主要性质和动作,而且单单这个因素也不足以导致推翻秦帝国。 我们说这是一场农民起义运动,不如说是一场人民起义回复六国和亡秦运动,是从前秦的统一战争的一种延续形式,当然是以反弹的形式延续的,而所谓农民推翻地主的政权和压迫,在这里面是从属的性质,甚至连从属的地位都不到。 在这种背景下,复立楚国而且推陈胜为楚王,就是这次会议的主要议题,而不是解决农民问题,剥削和土地的问题,和建立农民政权——根本没涉及这个话题。会议上的唯一争论是到底应该谁来当楚王。 既然这场运动的政治目的是回复六国并立体系,那陈胜领导的运动要想走向成功,必须严格纳入这一轨道,所以张耳、陈余也才有针对性地给出了复立六国之后的行动主张。 但是,陈胜当初在“大楚兴”之后又提出“陈胜王”,这其实就代表了他的矛盾心理。他政治上想复兴楚国或者六国,但是他个人私欲上又希望新的楚国是他陈胜为王。后者无论如何是会削弱他前面的复立楚国(六国)的政治口号的。这是一个有所矛盾的口号。 而张耳、陈余的建议,并不是反对陈胜获得个人欲望的实现,只是建议他要选对时机。张耳、陈余的意思是说,现在您赶紧派人到六国之地,复立六国之后,包括复立楚国之后,这样,六国都起来了,他们必然吸引了大量的秦朝的火力,然后您就领着楚军,乘虚直入咸阳(有六国顶着呢,您不会遇到太大抵抗),一举占领咸阳和关中。您控制了秦国本土的地盘,您有了实力,同时您复立六国之后又有了德。有德有实力,以令六国诸侯,六国诸侯必然推举您为帝——皇帝(陈皇帝)! 如果你现在就急着称王,给天下人看见你只是谋求实现自己当王的私欲,就不会有人过来帮你了,天下就解散了,上述说的大好局面和计划就泡汤了。 张耳、陈余发言完毕,陈胜陷入了一种矛盾。 他在想什么,我们没有人知道。也许他会作如下权衡:张耳、陈余建议的封六国诸侯之后的事,固然好,有利于反秦大势的形成,最终自己在里面捷足先登,甚至当了帝。当时,如果捷足先登了入咸阳的是别人了呢,不是我了呢?那不弄巧成拙了吗? 这就好像董事会,六个董事,加上陈胜,都要争董事长的位置,谁能保证陈胜不被打下去呢? 虽然董事多了力量大,但是董事多了,互相掐得也凶啊。而自己单独注册公司呢,当“独一董事”,那固然好,但这样自己就是独立奋斗了,不可能笼络号召各地诸侯了,不容易实现亡秦了。他的公司还会跟六国贵族的公司以及其他匹夫的公司形成竞争关系,
