Since the Longdong Old Area was the cradle and birthplace of the Northwest Red Army and the confluence of the three major Red Army Long Marches, the breadth and depth of the Red Army's activities and influence during the Agrarian Revolutionary War in the Longdong Old Area were extremely rare in the country.However, due to various constraints, there is still no relatively complete monograph on the history of the Red Army in the old Longdong area. The title of "Northern Shaanxi Red Army" has caused a lot of misunderstanding.Therefore, we believe that publishing a monograph on the history of the Red Army in the old Longdong area has become an urgent task.

In the process of writing, we encountered a key problem is how to define the scope of research on the history of the Red Army in the old Longdong area.The traditional point of view is that "History of the Red Army in Longdong Old Area" is the history of the development of the Red Army that was born in Longdong and has always been active in Longdong.In this way, there are three problems that are difficult to explain.First, due to the weakness of the Red Army and the strength of the enemy, after a Red Army unit was born in Longdong, due to the nature of the Red Army, it often would not always stay in the Soviet area of ​​Longdong. In addition, it was often in a highly mobile combat situation. They moved to Shaanxi and Gansu provinces or other places. Therefore, there is actually no Red Army unit that was born in Longdong and has been fighting in Longdong. Second, although some Red Army units were not born in Longdong, they were East carried out many revolutionary activities, some of which had a huge impact on the national revolutionary situation (such as the Battle of Hill Castle).How can these activities of the Red Army be excluded from the research scope of the history of the Red Army in the old Longdong area?Third, the scope of the Eastern Longdong Soviet Area is changing. The Soviet Area at this time may not be the Soviet Area at that time. For example, the vast new area opened up by the Red Army during the West Expedition actually included the Jingning area in Eastern Longdong. However, due to the sudden change of the situation, the Red Army Forced to abandon a large area of ​​the new area, the above-mentioned areas became enemy-occupied areas.So should the meeting of the three main forces of the Red Army in the Jingning and Huining areas be regarded as the meeting at the edge of the old Longdong area at that time?It is obviously inappropriate not to include it in the study of the history of the Red Army in the old Longdong area.

We believe that the history of the Red Army in the Longdong Old Area should focus on the Red Army units born or active in the Longdong Old Area during the Second Civil Revolutionary War, and try to explore the history of the origin or activities of these Red Army units in Longdong process and its objective laws.From this point of view, all Red Army units established in the old Longdong area, no matter whether their scope of activities is limited to the Longdong old area or not, should be the object of research. The history of major activities in the Donglao District is included in the scope of the study.In this way, we can fully reflect the origin, development, evolution and main struggle achievements of the Red Army in the old area of ​​Longdong, and seek the internal law of the development of the Red Army of Chinese Workers and Peasants in the old area of ​​Longdong.
