Chapter 22 2. Morbid freedom

He Yan did not expect that he would die. In other words, he didn't expect Sima Yi to kill him. He Yan, one of the founders of Xuanxue in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, was the grandson of He Jin and the adopted son of Cao Cao, who grew up in the palace.Later, he was on the wrong side in the political struggle between Sima and Cao Wei, and became Cao Shuang's party member, but the loser was the bandit. However, at the beginning, Sima Yi did not arrest He Yan, but let him participate in the investigation of Cao Shuang's "rebellion" case, and told him in advance that there were eight ethnic groups involved in the case.He Yan dug deep and worked hard to handle the case, and finally found out the crimes of the seven people including Ding Mi (read Rumi), and reported to Sima Yi with the materials.

Sima Yi said: There is still one more. He Yan blurted out in a hurry: Could it be me? Sima Yi said: Exactly. So He Yan was copied and beheaded by the whole family. He Yan died like this, even though he was also a smart person. When Cao Cao adopted He Yan's mother, Mrs. Yin, he also wanted to formally accept him as his son.At this time, although He Yan was only seven years old, he was very assertive. His method was to draw a box on the ground and stand inside it. Cao Cao asked: What is this? He Yan said: The house of the He family. Cao Cao had no choice but to laugh it off. It's a pity that He Yan's little cleverness can't deal with Sima Yi's scheming at all, and the court and officialdom have long been transformed into ruthless meat grinders. Therefore, even if He Yan joins the team again, he has no choice but to die.

However, although He Yan died unexpectedly, it did not prevent him from becoming a representative of Wei and Jin demeanor.Because there are at least three customs related to him, and even started by him, they are talking about mystery, taking drugs, and feminizing men. The trend of femininity began around the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, but He Yan was the most famous. He originally looked fair and clean, but no matter where he went, he never left his hands so that he could touch up his makeup anytime, anywhere. The walking posture is probably also graceful and charming, and one has to look back at one's own shadow step by step.

Even if it is really a woman, it may not be the case, right? This aroused the curiosity of Wei Ming Emperor Cao Rui. His solution was to invite He Yan to eat hot noodle soup on a hot day.So He Yan wiped his sweat while eating, but his face became whiter and paler. Only then did he know that he was born with a pretty face.Even so, He Yan still uses cosmetics, but we don't know the formula. Of course, we don't know why he did it. The one who knew the formula was the medicine that He Yan took. This medicine is called Wushi San, which was prescribed by Zhang Zhongjing, a medical sage in the Eastern Han Dynasty.Similarly, just as the "side effects" of Viagra changed human life, He Yan also unexpectedly experienced the miraculous effect of taking Wushisan.Of course, he may have changed the prescription slightly.

Wushi San became Wei Jin's Viagra. It is hard to say whether this incident can be written into the history of Chinese science and technology. But perhaps this technological innovation and its applications deserve the historical status of stirrups and printing.Stirrups enhanced the combat capability of cavalry, thus creating the knight class in Europe; printing broke the monopoly of knowledge by the privileged class, and made it possible to spread culture on a large scale. So what about five stone powder? Changed the demeanor of scholar-bureaucrats. The scholar-bureaucrats formed in the Han Dynasty were originally supposed to be modest and well-dressed gentlemen.Because according to Confucian ethics, clothing is a sign of identity and a symbol of morality.Being naked, disheveled, or even dressed casually is a serious and unforgivable act.

But drug addicts don't care much about that.Because after the onset of the drug effect, there will be a series of drug reactions (such as fever and then chills all over the body), and it may cause death. The way to detoxify is to eat cold food, drink hot wine, take a cold bath, and walk quickly, which is called "walking and loosening".As for clothes, it is natural to wear less or not to wear them. If you want to wear them, you have to wear loose old clothes, even if there are lice in them. So starting from He Yan, the fashion changed, and the image of celebrities gradually became like this: loose clothes, disheveled hair, dragging wooden clogs, holding a stag tail, and talking with lice.Even those who don't take drugs follow suit, and even pretend to catch lice, thinking they are elegant and chic.

This is really eye-popping. Clothing is unified with psychology and character. As the appearance changes, the inner world will also change.Or the reverse is also true: the change of appearance is due to the change of thought. In fact, celebrities in the Wei and Jin Dynasties have long wanted to change their appearance, and the drug reaction is just an excuse.Because the historical mission entrusted to them by the times is to break through the shackles of Confucian ethics and realize the freedom of the soul and the emancipation of the mind. If it is for freedom, all clothes and hats can be thrown away.

Indeed, the Wei and Jin Dynasties advocated freedom.Someone gave two cranes to Zhi Daolin, a monk and talker, and Zhi Daolin liked it very much.In order to keep them, he clipped the feathers of the crane's wings. The winged and hard-to-fly crane looked down at its wings with a very depressed expression.Zhi Daolin said with emotion: "If you have the ambition to rise to the top of the clouds, how can you be willing to be a plaything?"So take care of it carefully, let the crane grow its wings and let it fly. Zhi Daolin is able to do this, no doubt because he himself yearns for freedom, so he can compare his heart with his heart. But his sympathy may be difficult to add to other birds such as sparrows, it will only be used for cranes or eagles. After all, cranes have a special status in the Chinese cultural system (for example, burning lutes and cooking cranes is regarded as a typical waste), and it even symbolizes an ideal and attitude in life.

What ideal?what attitude? Live truly, freely and beautifully. This is actually the value pursuit that has existed since Zhuangzi, but the Wei and Jin Dynasties added beauty in addition to truth and freedom. This makes sense.Because it is really the embodiment of freedom, and beauty is a symbol of freedom.Without freedom, it is difficult to be authentic. If you can't "do what you want without transgressing the rules", there will be no art. Therefore, free and true must be beautiful.Crane is the image ambassador of this value. However, the word freedom is really not easy to talk about. Our nation has even feared freedom in history, or regarded freedom as a derogatory term, such as freedom or unruly behavior. The best understanding is freedom. This is not actually liberty in the true sense.

Of course, such a major issue can only be discussed in the long run. What I want to say here is: the pursuit of truth, freedom and beauty in the Wei and Jin Dynasties all showed a kind of pathology. The jade-like Wei Jie is like this. He is so weak that he can't even bear the light and soft shirt. Isn't this a patient at all?In fact, from the self-pitying He Yan to the weak Wei Jie, they all show sick beauty, but Wei Jie is physically sick, and He Yan is mentally sick. The manifestations of illness are drug use, alcoholism and talkativeness, but it is difficult to make a ranking list of their harmfulness. As far as individuals are concerned, the most harmful thing is to take drugs; as far as the country is concerned, the most undesirable thing is to talk.Of course, chatting has its own value, and it may not necessarily harm the country, but if chatting is addictive, how is it different from taking drugs? If government officials only know how to talk but don't do their jobs, aren't they sick?

The same goes for wine.Of course drinking is not a disease, alcoholism is, like Ruan Ji's nephew Ruan Xian, it is even more so.This person does not drink with a cup, but with an urn, and Zhu Ruan sits around the urn and directly sucks it with his mouth. If the pig smells the wine and comes, it will drink with the pig.It is really hard to say whether it is freedom or laissez-faire, liberation or degradation. The question is why? Because they are not free.As Ruan Ji said, the world is covered by a huge net, and no one can spread its wings and fly.Maybe, only when you are drug-induced and intoxicated, or in unrealistic high-spirited talk, can you feel more or less free? This is the morbid freedom experienced in an age of unfreedom. Obviously, a mental illness is, in the final analysis, a social illness, because a healthy society does not regard the sick as beautiful. The only thing we need to know now is the extent of the social disease at that time and the cause of it.
