Chapter 12 Chapter Eight Falling in Love with Chen Jieru

Commentary on Chiang Kai-shek 李敖 3168Words 2018-03-16
In the summer of 1919, Chiang Kai-shek, who was still engaged in speculative business in Shanghai, first met a thirteen-year-old girl, Chen Feng, at Zhang Jingjiang's home, and fell in love at first sight. Thanks to the publication of "Chen Jieru's Memoirs", we know the details of this love affair.A close friend Huang Renyu pointed out that the most basic information in this memoir cannot be mastered, "the reliability of this book can be imagined." (See "Reading Chiang Kai-shek's Diary from the Perspective of Big History", p. 25) Huang seems not to know that Chen Jieru did not directly participate in major party and state affairs, and of course there may be errors in indirect hearsay and recollection after the event. How can he suddenly suspect that it is a fake?In Chen Lifu's recently published memoir "Success or Failure", there are many places where basic information cannot be grasped, let alone Chen Jieru? The most reliable part of Chen Nv's memoir should be the relationship between her and Chiang Kai-shek, as well as the family affairs between the two.Chen Jieru not only personally experienced these private affairs, but also engraved on his heart, not only in fact can not make mistakes, but also the most authoritative.

Chen Jieru's original name was Chen Feng. When he met Chiang Kai-shek for the first time, Sun Yat-sen and Dai Jitao were also present.Chiang Kai-shek was in his early thirties at the time, and when he saw a thirteen-year-old girl, he immediately fell in love. In addition to the reason that opposite sexes attract, Sun Yat-sen especially praised the little girl because he was in the living room of Zhang Jingjiang's house that day. It made Chiang Kai-shek have a special eye for "the girl whom our Prime Minister Jiamian" has, and he pursues it relentlessly. The reason why Chen Feng appeared in the Zhang family was because her friend Zhu Yimin, who was five years older than her, married old man Zhang as a sequel.A girl who has a close relationship with Zhang Jingjiang and is favored by Sun Yat-sen will of course have a high weight in Chiang Kai-shek's mind.So Chiang Kai-shek, who looks very serious on the surface, actually has a playful smile on his face, chasing after little girls, and deliberately creates scenes of encounters on narrow roads, forcing girls to express their views.Even on a date, he tricked Chen Feng, who was not very sensible, to go to the famous "Cangzhou Hotel" in Shanghai. The English name was "Burlington Hotel". (Refer to "Chen Jieru's Memoirs", Volume 1, pages 23-28)

Chen Feng was initially in a state of shock and avoided seeing each other. Chiang Kai-shek launched a love letter offensive, expressing his determination to bow down to his skirt. When Chen Feng's father died of a heart attack on September 7, 1921, Chiang Kai-shek came to pay homage in filial piety, Zhu Yimin pulled the thread, and finally Zhang Jingjiang officially made the matchmaking, which made Chen Feng's mother feel embarrassed .Interestingly, Chen's mother was still worried and hired Shanghai private detectives to investigate Chiang Kai-shek.The investigation report was about Chiang Kai-shek before he made his fortune, and there was nothing to report. What's more, Chiang Kai-shek had a wife and a concubine at this time, so he decided to decline it. Unexpectedly, Zhang Jingjiang came to visit in person, explaining that Chiang's wife Mao had converted to Buddhism and was isolated from the world, and Jiang's concubine Yao Has agreed to divorce, and emphasized Chiang Kai-shek's firm intention to pursue.Under Zhang Jingjiang's strong cooperation, Chen's mother agreed to the marriage, and then persuaded her daughter to marry Chiang Kai-shek.After the two got engaged, Chiang Kai-shek changed Chen Feng's name to Chen Jieru. At the time of the marriage, Zhang Jingjiang was the witness, and Dai Jitao officiated for Chiang Kai-shek. The wedding was half Western and half old, and there was no doubt that it was a formal marriage by a Ming matchmaker.

After getting married, Chen Jieru found out that before marriage, Chiang Kai-shek was drinking and beautifying, often visiting brothels, living a very absurd life, and got sexually transmitted diseases, and transmitted them to her, so that neither of them could have children after that.Chiang Kai-shek repented for it and vowed to drink only boiled water for the rest of his life and not to drink other beverages to punish himself. Chen Jieru had no choice but to forgive him. (Refer to the records in "Chen Jieru's Memoirs") Before Chiang Kai-shek and Chen Jieru got married, it was indeed the most absurd and depraved period in his life.

Mao Fumei, Chiang Kai-shek's first wife, was born in 1882, the daughter of Mao Dingqiu, a businessman in Yantou Village, Fenghua, five years older than Chiang Kai-shek.When they got married in 1901, she was nineteen years old, and he was only fourteen years old. He was still a naughty boy. Of course, there was no relationship in this kind of marriage ordered by parents, but the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law was quite good.In the spring of 1904, the seventeen-year-old Chiang Kai-shek took his wife Mao Fumei to study in Ningbo and started an independent family life. But soon after Chiang Kai-shek was going to Dongyang, he sent his wife back to his natal family, and once again lost the opportunity to cultivate his relationship. In 1908, when Chiang Kai-shek returned to Shanghai from Japan for vacation, Mao Fumei also came to Shanghai for a reunion, but he felt that his country wife was rustic and could not agree to the remuneration, so he often lost his temper. However, when Mao Fumei returned home, she became pregnant and gave birth to Jiang Jingguo. The birth of a son should be Mao Fumei's greatest meaning to Chiang Kai-shek, and Mao Fumei had a son, and he also had a sustenance, and his indifference to her husband became more and more indifferent.

In the year of the Revolution of 1911, Chiang Kai-shek took as his concubine Yao Yecheng, a woman from Suzhou who came from a humble background but had an outstanding appearance.Yao's life experience can be seen in the records of Tianjin's "Yishi Bao" on October 18, 1927: "The daughter came from a humble background. When the North-South peace agreement was completed, Jiang stayed in Shanghai with Chen Yingshi. Every time Chen passed through the north, Jiang also went there , met Jiang during the banquet, deliberately flattered her, and finally entrusted her with her body." The so-called "cold" people are actually prostitutes from Beili.Chiang Kai-shek blatantly brought his concubine back to his hometown. Mao Fumei, who had been alone for a long time and was deeply influenced by tradition, didn't care. Many people praised Mao's magnanimity, but what if Mao was not magnanimous? It just shows that Mao is still smart and sensible.Chiang Kai-shek was also happy to have a wife at home and a concubine to serve him.

After Mao Fumei gave birth to Jiang Jingguo, another Jiang Weiguo appeared on October 6, 1916. Weiguo was neither born of Mao nor Yao. Where did it come from?It turned out that Wang Caiyu must inherit Jingguo's late youngest son. Chiang Kai-shek got syphilis and could not reproduce, so he took Dai Jitao's son and named him Weiguo, also known as Jianhao, which is opposite to Jingguo's alias Jianfeng. As our own son, why don't we regard Chiang Kai-shek as Jiang Weiguo's father? However, although Weiguo had a father, he still had no mother, so Chiang Kai-shek asked Weiguo to recognize Yao Yecheng as his mother and be raised by Yao's family. It seems difficult to ascertain that Weiguo was not originally Jiang's surname; however, in the "First Draft of President Chiang Kai-shek's Long Compilation", Mao often mentioned the rescue of Jingguo and returned from Russia in his diary on October 31, 1930, citing Chiang Kai-shek. The diary said: "How can I take care of my family for the country... I would rather sacrifice everything, even if the species is extinct, I will not recognize it." Wei country, why "extinct species"?

In addition, we saw the original transcript of Jiang Weiguo's conversation recorded by Sun Danning, which confirmed that Weiguo and Jingguo were originally "non-blood relationship" and learned that Weiguo was born by a Japanese woman who "went to Japan quietly alone" after the Anti-Japanese War. Seeing the 80-year-old Yamada Junichiro, he found the "Qingtian Cemetery", and in the desolate cemetery, he "kneeled down on the spot, prayed and recited silently to his mother's grave, and then left sadly" (the last quotation seems to be written by Jiang Weiguo himself in the original manuscript Added above). At least as far as Weiguo is concerned, he already knew his own background. In fact, he also revealed in the conversation that when he returned to China from Germany, Chiang Kai-shek had personally told him that he was not a child of the Chiang family. His biological father was Dai Jitao, whom he called his "uncle".He also does not deny that he has two fathers.

Mrs. Mao served Chiang Kai-shek's old mother and raised Jingguo; Concubine, such as the record on April 3rd in the tenth year of the Republic of China: "Yu Yu Mao, the footsteps of the shadows on weekdays are enough to stimulate the nerves... I am determined to divorce, and I am in pain." If you don't know how to govern your family, you can scold them severely, and the harm of marrying a concubine is unspeakable!" There is a tendency to give up a wife and divorce a concubine. "Refer to "Records of Chen Jieru and Family Affairs in Chiang Kai-shek's Diary", "Biographical Literature" Volume 62, Issue 6, Pages 24-29) According to the time, Chiang Kai-shek was madly in love with Chen Jieru in Shanghai at this time, so it can be seen that there was a reason for the incident .After all, Chen Jieru is a woman with a clean family background and a modern education. It is impossible to be a second concubine.Yao Shi, who was born in Beili, was originally a concubine and was easy to dismiss. But Mao, the first wife, is the mother of his only son and also has the favor of Jiang's mother, so it is difficult to be ruthless. However, on June 14, 1921, Chiang's mother, Wang Caiyu, died at the age of fifty-eight.After Chiang Kai-shek finished his mother’s funeral, on the night of November 28 of the same year, in front of Jingguo and Weiguo, he read out the written documents beforehand and separated from his wife and concubines. The full text is as follows:

Now that I have buried my mother, the major events in my son's life are over. After that, I can devote myself to the revolution, let alone have other ties. The divorce between Yu Jin and your biological mother, and the success or failure of Yu in the future, the family will never be troubled again because of me.Since the age of 18 when Yu decided to make a revolution, he had put life and death above all honor and disgrace; On behalf of Youyou, he left his mother's legacy, hoping that after Yu's death, he would talk about his relationship with him in case of accident.I don’t want to think about it in the future, but look forward to the two brothers, being close and loving, and inheriting the legacy, in order to repay the deep kindness of your grandmother’s life and care, that is, to comfort the spirit of the loving relatives in heaven on behalf of the rest.It is impossible to know when I will go to reunite with you. That's all I hope for you and others.I hereby show the warp and weft, and I will never Don't forget it, and keep it as a permanent commemoration.father.

To put it bluntly, Jiang's mother died, and Chiang Kai-shek had no scruples to divorce Mao Fumei, and officially married Chen Jieru, who was in love.Chiang Kai-shek devoted himself to the revolution and needed a new woman to be his wife. The Mao and Yao families really couldn't make it to the stage, so he naturally felt confident in divorcing his wife and concubine. However, a few years later, Chiang Kai-shek's scene was even bigger. He fell in love with a newer and more outstanding woman, Song Meiling, and divorced Chen Jieru, and he became more confident. The strange thing is that instead of asking Chen Jieru for a divorce, he tricked her into going abroad, and then refused to admit that he was married to her.It can be denied that the matchmaker between Jiang and Chen was married, but there is no such thing as a divorce from his first wife Mao because of the marriage contract between Jiang and Chen. Therefore, in 1927, when Jiang and Song married, they had to mobilize people to divorce Mao Fumei again. What can Mao, a rustic and small-footed countryman, do except let the handsome commander-in-chief manipulate him as he pleases?
