Chapter 5 3 Shanghai (1948-1949, thirteen to fourteen years old)

Memoirs of Li Ao 李敖 8742Words 2018-03-16
After the summer vacation in 1948, when I was thirteen years old, I entered the first grade of Beijing No. 4 Middle School. At that time, I planned to write a book "Northeast History" and began to collect materials. "to Zhang Lunbo's "Northeast Resources", Zheng Xuejia's "Northeast Industry", and even "A Study of Japan's Special Status in Manchuria" written by outsiders, etc., are all in my collection. ——It is rare for a first-year junior high school student to have this level and courage. It is only natural for young people of this level to be proud and conceited. However, my pride and conceit are all in my heart, and I am still at odds with others. Not only are they reconciled, but they often make jokes.Once, as a prank in class, I hugged a pretty boy surnamed Pan with affectionate eyes and flushed cheeks and shouted: "I love Pan Jinlian!"

It's a pity that the good times of hugging "Pan Jinlian" didn't last long. The situation of the Kuomintang in the north was going from bad to worse, and Beijing was in danger. Dad learned his lesson this time and decided to flee with the whole family. He plans to go south in four batches: the first batch is Dad himself, and he will go to Shanghai to make a stop first. When he was in Northeast China, he helped a Taiwanese friend Weng Zhen a lot. When Weng Zhen returned to Taiwan, he wrote a letter to persuade him why not go directly to Taiwan?Dad said that he judged that although the Kuomintang was defeated, the remaining strength could maintain the situation of "ruling across the Yangtze River (Yangtze River)" with the Communist Party, so it was almost enough to flee to Shanghai. In addition, another important reason is: the shadow of the February 28 incident made Dad feel uneasy, and he was not at ease about Taiwan. He does not want to see the Kuomintang kill Taiwanese; he is also afraid that the Taiwanese will retaliate and kill him indiscriminately. Therefore, in a broad sense, our family is also a victim of the February 28 incident. We did not come directly to Taiwan and settled down. It was a wrong turn for Shanghai to come to Taiwan in a hurry after exhausting opportunities and financial resources in Shanghai.

Dad flew to Shanghai, and then the second batch of mothers, older sisters, younger sisters, younger brothers, and Lao Wu (a homeless old lady who has been with us for ten or twenty years) also took Fly to Shanghai; then three sisters, four sisters. In order to save some money, I was in the third batch, transferred to Tianjin, and took a ship to Shanghai; my eldest sister and second sister were originally in the fourth batch, because my eldest sister had just been admitted to the Fu Jen Catholic University’s Department of Medicine, and she was just selected as a department flower. I am happy; my second sister is a senior in Beiman Girls' High School and is graduating soon, so I think we can leave later. This decision was mainly due to the fourth uncle. The fourth uncle's name is Ding Xiqing, who is an important member of Chennault's Flying Tigers (Ding Xiqing is specifically mentioned in Chen Xiangmei's "How Much I Know About the Past"). He told his father that if the situation changed suddenly, he would find a way to find a plane ticket so that the eldest sister The second sister went south immediately, and of course my father believed it.Unexpectedly, the speed at which the situation turned sharply, that is, the speed at which the Kuomintang collapsed, was greatly unexpected: Beijing was besieged and Beijing was liberated. Except for senior state agents with guns such as Zhang Qingen, the former director of the Bureau of Investigation, and others, no one could get along with them. Get on the plane!

By the time I saw my eldest and second sisters again, it was already 44 years later. I invited them to Taiwan for a visit. In the winter of 1948, my third and fourth sisters and I traveled from Beijing to Tianjin and were going to Shanghai by boat.We lived in a hotel in Tianjin and waited for the boat. All three were junior high school students, and Uncle Wu accompanied us.The streets of Tianjin are very clean, and the city gives me the impression of coolness.I cannot recall a single face in this town.In my memory, I seem to live in a dead city with no human habitation. But at that time, the situation was very chaotic, and it was almost the same to say that Tianjin was a dead city.In order to make up some errands, I had to go back to Beijing once, so I took the train back alone.Near Langfang, the trains were running very slowly. The railway had just been rushed to repair, and the old railway was taken away by the Communist Party.

In Tianjin, I finally waited for a ship—Xilin Ship.On the pier, it was already a mess. Many wounded soldiers gathered there. Uncle Wu talked to a wounded soldier about the situation of the battle, and offered a cigarette to the wounded soldier. The wounded soldier expressed his gratitude beyond words. That was the only time I saw the suffering people under the chaos of war.The struggle between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party in the mouth of the wounded soldiers is a civil war, a battle between brothers. In fact, if you want to talk about civil wars and brothers' wars, there are more specific things than this.At that time, there were two brothers in the east of Hebei Province. The elder brother was taken by the Kuomintang army to serve as a soldier, and the younger brother served as a soldier in the Communist army. They shot at each other on the battlefield and killed each other. The old man Liang Qiushui wrote "A Journey of Brothers in Eastern Jidong" at that time. There is a description of "brother's stomach pierced, brother's brain cracked".

The Xilin ship is very small. It was the first time in my life that I was on a ship, and I kept looking around on the deck. The boat sailed out of the Bohai Sea and passed through Shandong, a continent far away, which caused me to make a comparison: half a century ago, my grandfather’s generation went from the northeast of Shandong to the northeast; half a century later, our generation went southeast around Shandong, to Jiangnan. It seems that the efforts of my grandfather's generation have been completely in vain. Tao Yuanming's poem "roots and plants float in the sea" is an accurate prophecy.

After arriving in Shanghai, our family lived near the construction site and planned to move into a new house. The new residence is the first, second and third floors of a row of small apartments. The third floor is under the roof of Uncle Liu, and the first and second floors are under the roof of Dad.The location is near the Tilan Bridge in Hongkou, Shanghai, opposite to the Shanghai Prison. Of course it is a bad location, but this small house has already taken up most of my father's savings, so I have to tighten things up.Because none of Uncle Six and our family of nineteen has a job, this is of course very worrying. At that time, prices fluctuated greatly, so my father bought flour that could last for several months, piled it up at home, bought American relief products (mostly canned beef sauce) as the staple food, and prepared to endure for a long time. Change.

Although things are tight, there is a sum of money that my father must spend, and that is my tuition. My father insisted that my studies should not be interrupted, so I went to school alone when my sisters had no money to study. At that time, Jigui Middle School happened to have a spring class. I passed the entrance examination on January 25, 1949, and started studying from the first day of junior high school. Jigui Middle School, formerly known as Huatong Public School, is the third school to establish the Chinese Boy Scouts, with a long history. When Hu Shi was in poverty in Shanghai, he used to teach in this school. Later, because he was drunk and beat the police, he resigned voluntarily. The school was later renamed Jigui Middle School in memory of Nie Jigui (Zeng Guofan's son-in-law), the leader of the Qing Dynasty in Shanghai. When I first entered this school, its beautiful buildings attracted me greatly, because it was indeed too noble compared with my alma mater in Beijing No. 4 Middle School. Its buildings are both elegant and exquisite. The schools in Shiliyangchang are completely different from the schools in the cultural ancient capital, and the rich and poor are completely different.

After registering, the school started on February 15th, and I was dumbfounded as soon as the class started, because the teachers and students mostly spoke Shanghainese, and I didn't understand Shanghainese, which made it very inconvenient for me.Especially in English class, English is taught in primary schools in the Shanghai area. The English textbooks are "English Jintiao" that have been used for decades. The English teacher is a woman, and she speaks fast and easy Shanghainese. Now that I don't know English or Shanghainese, I really suffer in class.Fortunately, my father made up for me every day when I went home. After a while, I finally stabilized the situation. In the class, my Chinese and history scores were outstanding, which made the teachers treat me differently, and my classmates didn't dare to underestimate me, so I was reluctant to be angry with the Shanghainese.Unexpectedly, the good times didn’t last long. One day during the break at noon, I was engraving stamps in the classroom. The horse-faced squad leader came over and said something insulting to me.But he also said, I just raised the engraving knife casually, and he backed away and said, I will use a "Little Li Fei knife". As soon as he ran, the knife just pierced into the sole of his foot, and he immediately cried out in pain shouted.Everyone hurriedly carried him to the infirmary, and I followed behind, only feeling dizzy, thinking that there was a catastrophe. The dean of training, who was tall and burly, came over and asked me, "Did Nong do it?" I nodded, and he snorted, turned around and left.Later, the team leader Ma Mian was sent to the hospital, where he stayed for several days, all the expenses were borne by me.In terms of school, they said that I behaved violently and wounded someone with a knife, and I was given a major demerit once.

During those days in Shanghai, I concentrated on my studies without any entertainment. I never went to the cinema, but was invited to Wang Jiazhen's house once.Wang Jiazhen, courtesy name Shuren, was born in Shuangcheng County, Jilin Province. He was Zhang Xueliang's celebrity when he became popular. He studied at Peking University in his early years and transferred to Keio University in Japan. At the founding meeting of the United Nations, when the Kuomintang won the Anti-Japanese War and took over the Northeast, he served as the director of the Northeast Production Administration. His wife is the younger sister of my old uncle Li Zizhuo, and she has a distant relationship with my family that even the "nine tribes" can't punish. After my grandmother died on June 18, 1948, before the situation in Beijing deteriorated, my family moved out of the old house on the Street of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and lived in his backyard. He has two sons named Big Brother and Little Brother, who are close in age to me, and we often climb trees together in the backyard. One day, when I went to the front yard, I happened to meet a guest. This guest was none other than General Ma Zhanshan, the leader of the secret anti-Japanese group that my father joined.General Ma Zhanshan, whose name is Xiufang, was born in Huaide County, Jilin Province. He was born as a mill worker, and later joined the army. He was brave and good at fighting, and he was promoted to the commander of the third brigade of the Heilongjiang Army Infantry (quite a division commander, because the Northeast Army has no division organization and only uses brigades as combat units). After the September 18th Incident in 1931, he acted as the chairman of Heilongjiang Province. In the Battle of Nenjiang Bridge, the lone army resisted, 108 Japanese soldiers were killed and wounded, and the major village soldier was defeated and cut his belly. When the news came, the whole country was excited, because this was the first open resistance of the Chinese to Japanese aggression, and it was also a dissatisfaction with the Kuomintang. The first flagrant defiance of the resistance policy, the Japanese devils felt too humiliated, and launched a general attack on General Ma Zhanshan, led by Lieutenant General Duomen, to launch a large-scale land and air battle.Due to the disparity in numbers and weapons, General Ma Zhanshan turned to guerrilla warfare on November 19 and killed 800 Japanese soldiers at Laha Station. The name of the Northeast Volunteer Army shook the world. In 1933, General Ma Zhanshan was forced to withdraw his troops from Manchuria to the Soviet Union. He first transferred from the Soviet Union to Europe, and then returned to Shanghai from Europe. The whole country welcomed this anti-Japanese hero like crazy.General Ma Zhanshan brought confidence and hope to the Chinese people, which was the greatest foundation of the eight-year war of resistance. Even if you can't fight, you still have to fight, and guerrilla warfare is the best tactic to deal with the Japanese. After he fought against the Japanese alone, in the pass, young people from all over the country volunteered to go north to join the Volunteer Army and even The Nineteenth Route Army, a non-KMT unit that resisted the Japanese on 128, also voluntarily asked to go north; outside the customs, volunteers from all over the country surged, ranging from a few thousand to tens of thousands, with weapons ranging from shotguns to zhangba snake spears, fighting tirelessly with the Japanese devils.According to the statistics of the Japanese devils, in the 14 years from the September 18th Incident to the surrender of Japan in 1945, the "crusade team" was dispatched 13,689 times in the first ten years alone, with an average of nearly five per day. Next time, to suppress the Volunteer Army. The ashes of the Japanese devils killed in battle are transported back up to 100,000 a year!During the fourteen years, in the 230 counties in the Northeast, the incidents of the lone army resisting the Japanese came and went.Although the Japanese devils have severe punishments and laws (the family is the unit, the parents are tortured to death, the males are miners, and the female family members are camp prostitutes), but there are still an average of 20 guerrilla warfare every day.The Northeast compatriots fought against Japan alone, earlier, longer and more arduously than those in other places. However, in the history of the imperial appointment of the Kuomintang, it has been omitted or out of proportion. This is too unfair and unfair!Second, General Ma Zhanshan’s solitary struggle against Japan has won the sympathy of the world’s public opinion. The evidence he provided to the Litton investigation team of the League of Nations finally made the Japanese devils declared an aggressor country by the League of Nations, made China gain the support of the world's public opinion, and made the world know that the Chinese people should not be humiliated. The Chinese are still willing to do things with the Japanese devils. Still promising!

However, General Ma Zhanshan's solitary resistance against Japan obviously made Chiang Kai-shek, who was not fighting against Japan, in a dilemma, and obviously robbed Chiang Kai-shek of the spotlight, which was disliked by Chiang Kai-shek.Therefore, although he is the No. 1 national hero, he has been frozen and persecuted; his men were massacred when they were withdrawn from the northeast to Xinjiang.During the Anti-Japanese War, he led the chairman of Heilongjiang Province and served as the commander-in-chief of the Northeast Advance Army. He was stationed in Yulin in northern Shaanxi and Wuyuan in Suiyuan.Chiang Kai-shek discriminated against him, so that the Northeast Advance Army had only two to three thousand people, and the poor equipment was second to none. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Chiang Kai-shek changed the three eastern provinces to the nine eastern provinces for his own selfishness, so that General Ma Zhanshan could not even get an empty chairman. He took the remnants of his troops and ran back to his hometown in Northeast China in desolation, but on the way, the Communist Party stopped him and wiped out his followers. In the midst of ambivalence, he arrived in Beijing sadly.Later, Chiang Kai-shek was defeated in the battle against the Communist Party in the Northeast. Some people suggested that why not send General Ma Zhanshan back to the Northeast to appeal? So he was given a short name and asked him to return to the Northeast. On April 16, 1947, General Ma Zhanshan returned from Wanli Rongrong. When he got off the train, the crowd swarmed up and surrounded him. They shouted: "Long live General Ma!" General, no one deserves to be shouted long live.Four days later, the compatriots in Northeast China held a meeting to welcome him, and 100,000 people came to cheer.General Ma Zhanshan is only 60 years old, but he has been in exile for many years, and he is already old. His face is full of wrinkles and weathered. Facing every face of suffering, torture, and face that looks forward to the horse's head, he shed tears, and hundreds of thousands of people also cried. Down. The adherents of the Northeast, who had lost all their tears, learned to shed tears again. They sweated to welcome the recruiters, but they shed tears to welcome General Ma!At that time, the compatriots in Northeast China were being tortured by the KMT's recruiters after being tortured by Japan and the Soviet Union.Xiong Shihui, director of the Northeast Xingyuan of the Kuomintang, took the lead in corruption and fraud, buying soybeans, transporting sorghum, speculating in money, occupying bus business, and so on.General Ma Zhanshan could do nothing, and finally returned to Beijing out of boredom.I happened to come to see Wang Jiazhen that day, so I had a chance to meet him. When I saw him walk in, I felt infinite reverence in my heart. After my family moved to Shanghai, Wang Jiazhen's family also moved to Shanghai. The older brother and the younger brother invited me to play. The three young boys visited the highest international hotel in the country, the Golden Gate Building. They probably took an extra trip or two in the elevator, which caused the Shanghainese who drove the elevator to stare at each other. The Shanghainese's snobbish eyes, I Still fresh in my memory.Wang Jiazhen invited me to eat dumplings. Aunt Wang finally left the three dumplings on the plate, saying that they would stay on the plate, it would be too ugly to eat them all.Wang Jiazhen couldn't put down the book. The thick translated novel he held in his hand that day was translated by Cultural Life Publishing House. This gentleman has an extraordinary appearance, kind and dignified, which is impressive.Forty years after breaking up with Wang Jiazhen, I was invited to give a speech at the World Journalism Institute. After the speech, when the crowd walked out, a familiar face stopped me: "I am Shixin's teacher, my name is Wang Sumei, and I am Wang Jiazhen's teacher." Daughter." I didn't expect that the eldest sister of the Wang family would meet me on an isolated island!Isn't it amazing to see two generations of father and daughter in the cold and heat of the forty years before and after! The only place I often go to in Shanghai is the Commercial Press and several other bookstores. As early as when I was in Beijing, I was longing for several bookstores such as the Commercial Press. When I arrived in Shanghai, I went to see them in person, which was very enjoyable. There are wind-stained books on the upper floor of the Commercial Press, which are very cheap. A butterfly stamp is stamped on the back of each book to prove that it is a cheap product. I bought a lot, most of which are "Modern Issues Series" and "New Era History and Geography Series".To go to these bookstores, I had to cross the bridge and enter Huangpu Beach. One morning, I witnessed a rush to buy gold by the Huangpu Beach. I will never forget that scene. It turned out that on August 9, 1948, the Chiang Kai-shek government suddenly announced the "Financial and Economic Emergency Disciplinary Order" and issued "Golden Yuan Notes", stipulating that one yuan of gold round notes was equivalent to three million yuan in old French currency. It is equivalent to 0.25 US dollars, and at the same time, gold, silver, and French currency can be exchanged within a limited period.Ordinary people are not allowed to keep gold privately, and if they are caught, it will be fatal, so all the gold in the country is owned by the public. The Chinese people are really easy to bully. In 1935, when the legal currency was implemented, they first experienced the power of Chiang Kai-shek's government. After the Anti-Japanese War, Chiang Kai-shek’s government could not protect the people, and the common people became the survivors of the enemy and the puppet. In order to devalue the currency, the Japanese devils exchanged the French currency for Japanese military notes or counterfeit banknotes. Legal currency is banned and all counterfeit banknotes are used.Unexpectedly, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Chiang Kai-shek government returned the counterfeit banknotes to the common people at an obviously unfair exchange rate of 200 to 1 French currency. When the golden round coupons appeared, one yuan was worth three million yuan in French currency. In the past few years, the private savings of the common people were all liquidated one by one.Within 40 days of the initial issuance of the gold-dollar coupons, the Chiang Kai-shek government exchanged paper for gold and exchanged for more than 300 million U.S. dollars in gold and dollar bills.Simultaneously with the issuance of golden round coupons, a price limit was implemented, and the price limit was based on August 19. In order to ensure the success of the price limit, the Chiang Kai-shek government sent economic control officials to supervise in Shanghai, Tianjin, and Guangzhou. The profiteering businessmen acted resolutely and sensationalized China and foreign countries; however, as the US ambassador to China Leighton Stuart said, this is an attempt to overthrow the laws of economics by using police power, and there is no reason for success.Soon, there was a rush to buy supplies all over the country. The four major companies in Shanghai - Xianshi, Yong'an, Xinxin, and Daxin were sold out. People were panicked and the world was in chaos. The gold-dollar coupons depreciate rapidly, and the price of the depreciated goods is not only different in the morning and evening, but even within an hour.Stores in the market originally put up a sign saying, "At present, the price is fixed, and the market price will be different in the morning and evening." Later, there were too many changes, and the price list had to be revised at any time. When I eat a bowl of noodles in a restaurant, the price is different when I go in and out.The ink on the previous price list was still dry, and the new price list was posted again. This kind of strange situation is really unprecedented in two thousand years! Less than three months after the issuance of the gold round coupons, on November 11, the Chiang Kai-shek government had no choice but to allow the people to hold gold, silver and foreign currencies, and agreed to redeem them in gold round coupons, but the rate was higher than the rate the government bought three months ago. In five times! It is needless to say that the old-fashioned gold savings and US dollar bonds during the Anti-Japanese War were used to break the trust of the people. But even if the common people suffer a lot, they would rather ask for gold than gold coupons. As a result, the big wave of running on gold to the Central Bank of Huangpu Beach immediately started. There was a curfew in Shanghai at that time, and the common people had to hide around Huangpu Beach the night before, or in back alleys, or in sampans, waiting for the curfew to be lifted at 5 o'clock in the morning. As soon as 5:00 in the morning, a sea of black people flocked to the central bank from all directions to fight for priority exchange. All of a sudden, there were tens of thousands of heads, and nothing could get through. The Shanghai Police Department dispatched an elite unit, the "Flying Taibao", who rode on horses and beat people with whips, but to no avail. People were crushed to death, trampled to death, trampled to death, trampled to death, and injured everywhere. When I went to buy books, I passed by Huangpu Beach, and I could no longer pass on the road. I had to step on a sampan and walk around the water. This kind of strange situation is really unprecedented in two thousand years! From the point of view of numismatics, the issuance of gold round coupons is fundamentally contrary to the basic principles of finance. When the government has no cash and silver reserves at all, it is a typical short sale to issue major events; it is a typical short sale to redeem gold and dollar bills.Buy short and sell short first, and naturally backtrack later. In the end, the gold in the central bank's inventory was rushed to Taiwan with the principle of "take it from the people, use it for the people, and use it to fight chaos and comfort the people's expectations" as a reserve for the issuance of new Taiwan dollars. The Kuomintang said that the gold has stabilized Taiwan's personnel, but it does not say that the gold has lost the hearts of the mainland people. It is really good at talking! Due to the chaos of war, groups of the most painful victims appeared, that is, the refugee children.Refugees fled north and south, and many refugee children were lost in the process of fleeing, living on the streets of cities.According to statistics from Shanghai's "Ta Kung Pao" in 1949, charities received 155 corpses of children on January 9 alone! On the tenth day, another one hundred and sixty-six were received! This is really tragic! At that time, the cartoonist Zhang Leping took difficult children as the theme and drew "The Wanderings of Sanmao", which attracted the attention of the public. In the name of "China Welfare Foundation" on April 4, Soong Ching Ling held the "San Mao Original Works Charity Exhibition" for Zhang Leping, and also held the "San Mao Paradise Fair", using the income to help difficult children.Back then, Sanmao, they were orphans during the war, exiled to Shiliyang, and wandered on the cross streets, relying on a broken foreign tin can-their only property, picking up food in the garbage dump, begging, or shining shoes, Or push a cart, or steal something. …No matter how hard, how hard, how hard to make a living, the end is mostly on the street. On a northerly night in early 1947, Zhang Leping came back from outside. Passing by the entrance of an alley, he saw three impoverished children, tightly surrounded by a small fire in the middle. They relied on this fire to keep warm and survive. .Zhang Leping stood near them for a long time, feeling very sad, but unable to help them. After returning home, I lay on the bed and couldn't fall asleep, wondering if these three troubled children could make it through the night?Early the next morning, he walked through the alley again, but two of the three children had already froze to death.Zhang Leping said: "I thought that there were more than ten million children who died of freezing. As a cartoonist, I was determined to use my brush to make a severe complaint against the unreasonable social system." The portrait of Sanmao, which had already been finalized, was changed to that of a difficult child. His Sanmao comics have touched thousands of Chinese people, including me at the age of 13.Thirty-three years later, I published the eighth issue of "Li Ao Qianqiu Review Series", which still has aftermath. On the cover of this issue, I published a picture of sisters and brothers in troubled children. In the picture, a little girl in tattered black clothes, with her younger brother on her back, is sitting on the side of the road sleeping, barefoot, with her left hand drooping, and a broken foreign tin can in her right hand. The picture is sad and touching. This photo was taken by foreign journalists in Shanghai at that time, and it was included in the "1949 Annual" published in the United States.Unexpectedly, after I republished it, Director Cao Jianzhong, the head of the political work of the Kuomintang Security Command, who controls the publication, expressed his dissatisfaction. He warned Ye Shengkang of the Four Seasons Publishing Company: "This kind of photo is all fabricated by Li Ao to smear Taiwan. Authorities! You have to be responsible for publishing it for him!" After Ye Shengkang told me, I laughed out loud, and I said: "These ignorant warriors, just ignore him and tell him to come to me." Afterwards, the matter disappeared After all, I feel that the government and the public in Taiwan are unfamiliar with the sufferings of the world, but there is such a "misunderstanding".Director Cao of the Police Headquarters certainly doesn't know the suffering in the world, but how much do the so-called Taiwanese writers who take it as their mission to care about the suffering in the world know? The most comical comparison is that someone uses Sanmao as a pseudonym, and what he does all day is to lead the sick masses into a world of escapism and romance. For the suffering real Sanmao, it is really a kind of insult. Forty years after the publication of "The Wanderings of San Mao", I feel that San Mao's spirit of compassion, sarcasm and protest has been submerged; Wang Xiaochi edited the book "Three Works of Sanmao" with the level of a comic expert, which was published by Li Ao Publishing House. This is another aftermath of my Sanmao complex. On January 10, 1949, the 66-day Battle of Huaihai (KMT called "Xu Bang Battle") ended, and KMT generals Huang Wei and Du Yuming were captured successively. The entire Jiangbei has been lost. The sudden change of the situation greatly shook my father's confidence in the Kuomintang's ability to defend the south of the Yangtze River, and the Kuomintang's desire to rule across the river was impossible. At that time, everyone was fleeing, and every family was fleeing. The whole family of Zhang Songhan, my father’s old student at Peking University, also moved downstairs to my house.Zhang Songhan is the director of education of the Xing'an Provincial Government, and his wife Dai Shuren is a representative of the National Congress. They have deep ties to the Kuomintang and are planning to flee to Taiwan. Before leaving, he advised us to go to Taiwan too, and my father agreed. After Zhang Songhan arrived in Taiwan, he immediately collected the entry certificate for us and sent it to us.So my father and I immediately went to the city to buy tickets. Before my family left Shanghai, I left the stored flour and so on to the sixth uncle, and gave the sixth uncle a tael of gold. The remaining property is only a few taels of gold. There are nine members of the family, and each of them can't get a tael, so they follow The big officials and businessmen fled to Taiwan. At that time, Shanghai was already dominated by silver dollars, which were divided into statues of Yuan Shikai and Sun Yat-sen, called "Yuan Datou" and "Sun Xiaotou".The situation in the market is "big head, small head, tinkling".Dad and I joined the silver dollar scalpers in the market, exchanged the ticket price, went to the shipping company to buy it, and actually bought the ticket on the deck of the Zhongxing ship. I was very happy. The house in Shanghai was sold at a low price of one-tenth of the purchase price, but it was also sold.So everything was ready and ready to flee again. On the night of boarding the ship, the Zhongxing ship was packed up and down, and it was already crowded with the density of a run on gold at Huangpu Beach. I finally squeezed onto the ship with my book collection on my back.He slept on the luggage on deck that night.Early the next morning, the boat sailed, and the sixth uncle came and waved his hands with tears. Just like that, the boat slowly left Chongming Island, and the sound of cannons could be faintly heard in the distance. From Shanghai to sea, we fled again. During this period, Dad kept a simple diary, which is of great historical value: April 23 1.The peace talks broke down, and most of the Nanjing personnel retreated. They were the officials, and they were the ones who ran away. Only the people suffered. 2.Mo Lin (referring to legislator Wang Zhaomin) and Song Han returned to Shanghai one after another. April 24 1.Song Han is busy looking for a boat ticket, Mo Lin and others are all flying to Guangdong, and Yu Ze has nothing to do. April 25 1.Song Han's family boarded the boat. 2.Nanjing has been liberated! May 5 1.Song Han wrote that life in Taiwan is easy. Based on his personal life and past experience, there is no need to go to Taiwan. However, there is room for consideration in order to earn a living or find a job in a short period of time. May 6 1. The entry certificate is sent. 2.Decided to go to Taiwan temporarily to find the main road. 3. Entrusting someone to settle the house, from Beiping to Shanghai, most of the family assets have gone.If I go to Taiwan again this time, everything will be empty! May 7 1.The problem of the house was a windfall. It was paid out with six and a half (referring to gold), and the sixth brother still lost one residence. 2. To buy a boat ticket, you must have a gold circle ticket, and go to Henan Road with Aoer to exchange for a gold circle ticket. It is equivalent to a silver dollar peddler, sitting on the stone steps in the alley, with the ocean in his left hand and gold coupons in his right hand, and exchanged a total of more than 400 million yuan. 3.Buy two second-class tickets, three full third-class tickets and three half-tickets, totaling more than 430 million yuan. 4.Inform Song Han that the ticket has been purchased, please pick it up at the boat pier and find a house on your behalf. May 8 1.Solve items such as woodware and rice noodles. 2.Fourteen bags of noodles, four bags of rice (original note: 200 catties), and odds and ends are given to the sixth brother for temporary use to tide over the difficulties, and one or two golds are given to make him feel at ease. , only listen to the destiny. 3.Send luggage on board. May 9 1.The sixth younger brother (sends) Gui Zhen and others aboard the boat. This time they are going to Taiwan. In order to solve the difficulties, they will take all the furniture they can take with them during their stay in Shanghai.
