Home Categories Biographical memories The world is safe and sound, and the Dharma will not fail the Tathagata and not the Qing
The ignorance of Sangye Gyatso lies in his arrogance. How is his army an opponent of Lazang Khan?As the power sent by the emperor to check and balance Tibetan politics, Lhazang Khan should not be underestimated. But once Sangye Gyatso took control of the real power, he was reluctant to let it go.He naively thought that by relying on politics alone, Lazang Khan's power could be minimized. The power that can be oppressed will one day counterattack. But even when he lost his power, he still believed that he would one day stand up.This once all-powerful old man still refuses to believe that he has failed.Even if his military power is not as good as Lazang Khan, he has to think of other better ways.

He remembered the father who had dealt with Lhazang Khan, the Mongol king who insisted on taking a share of his power. He gave the king a gift, a poison that killed him.A threat to power just disappeared. Sangye Gyatso was very satisfied with the approach at that time, which was the most economical war strategy.Although the result of that assassination was his son's hatred for him, this hatred also vowed to end his life. But Sangye Gyatso ideally thought that he was a veteran in assassination, and he would surely win the final victory. In the early years, he had already placed his own people by Lazang Khan's side, and now is the time to use this pawn.

The secret order was issued, and Sangye Gyatso looked into the distance with satisfaction, thinking about the next strategy. He did not expect that this move would be digging his own grave. Who else can stop Sangye Gyatso's madness? Before the decisive battle, an old lama came to Sangye Gyatso. He said something unexpected: "Who I am is not important. The important thing is, Sangye Gyatso, what do you want? Have you ever thought about the sixth Dalai Lama? Your rights Desires will definitely result in his sacrifice. It is better for you to live in seclusion in the mountains." The dissuasion of the eminent monks before made him think of the Buddha, but what this lama said was Tsangyang Gyatso.Only then did Sangye Gyatso remember that, as a puppet supported by him, Tsangyang Gyatso had already experienced too many traumas.Once, he was a free child in the fields, but now he is a prisoner trapped in the Potala Palace.Although he was grateful for everything the fifth Dalai Lama had done to him, he deeply hurt the sixth Dalai Lama.

He knew that the harm he caused Cangyang Gyatso was irreparable. He also found that his insistence on going his own way would continue to bring deep harm to Tsangyang Gyatso.Lazang Khan regards Tsangyang Gyatso as a "fake living Buddha supported by Sangye Gyatso". If he continues to confront Lazang Khan, it will only make Lazang Khan attack Tsangyang Gyatso. At that time, in Tsangyang Gyatso's life full of suffering, there will be a new, bloody wound - this wound will even lead him to death. But now, he couldn't stop. There was a wildness in his heart that was shouting, he had confronted these people who were hostile to him for too long.At this moment, he has waited for too many years and struggled for too many years. Now comes the final key.How could he retreat at the last moment and fall short? The desire for power is such a poison, once people fall into it, they cannot extricate themselves.

Sangjie Gyatso was determined to go his own way and confront Lazang Khan. The result would be a catastrophe, and it would take the lives of many people. But he didn't care about that much anymore, he could only move forward and make the last fight. Looking at Sangye Gyatso, who has been deeply poisoned, the old lama was very helpless. He knew that his persuasion could not make this person go astray. He could only let out a long sigh and fled away.As he walked slowly, he vaguely said something like the changing of seasons and the sweetness of life.Sangye Gyatso couldn't help following him a few steps, and heard him say that going up and down is the principle of walking.

The words of the old lama couldn't be more understandable. He said that no matter how beautiful a person is, there will be a day when he is no longer beautiful. This is the most simple truth in the world.Sometimes our life is smooth sailing, and victory is just ahead, but who would have expected that there would not be an insurmountable gully suddenly appearing in front of us?Sometimes the road is muddy and it is impossible to walk, but who would have expected that it would not suddenly rain and clear up ahead?Pain and joy are relative. The troughs and the good times also appear alternately.

Sangye Gyatso was terrified when he heard the old lama muttering to himself. What a wise man he was, his knowledge made him quickly understand the truth in these words. Is this really the time for him to go downhill? As a monk, he naturally understands the reason for this replacement, but as an ambitious man who desires power, he is unwilling to give up any possible opportunity. No, he didn't want to go through the cold winter, he comforted himself that everything he did was for the people of Tibet. But if it is really for the Tibetan people, what he is looking for should be the "no war" method, not just use violence to control violence. As a monk, one should have the compassionate self-sacrifice of the Buddha's "feeding the tiger with his body", instead of manipulating the army and launching a war.

The "Diamond Sutra" once mentioned that the three princes in a large country have always been very kind. One day, he and his elder brother went to play in the mountains, and suddenly saw a tigress that had just given birth. She was very hungry and was about to starve to death.Feeling pity for the third prince, he ordered his second brother to go first, but he stayed behind to feed the tigress with his flesh and blood. However, the tigress was too weak to eat.He pierced his own neck, bleeding out, and let it lick. This story of "feeding a tiger with one's body" is to make Buddhist believers think about others, as long as they can fulfill the happiness of others, they will not hesitate to sacrifice themselves.

Cangyang Gyatso has gradually understood the value of sacrifice in the loss again and again. But for Sangye Gyatso, who has been asking for it, let alone "feeding a tiger with his body", he is unwilling to let go of even a little bit of power. He forgot the duty of a monk and the nature of an old man.Crazy desires destroy the last trace of reason and compassion in people's hearts. The "good" thoughts in my heart have long been annihilated, replaced by the burning killing, bloody, and desperate pursuit of war.The aged Sangye Gyatso even ignored himself. Is this nihilistic power really worth burning my last years to fight for?Even if one wins the battle for interests, what is left behind is not necessarily fame. Before that, Sangye Gyatso had already suffered too much infamy. The countless souls who died while repairing the Potala Palace, and the countless souls who died while fighting with Lazang Khan were the resentment of his mother and the curse of his lover.Even his own sons left him longing for freedom. What's the point of fighting like this?Hold the power firmly, one day he will die, and the power will fall into the hands of others. His name was spurned, resented, and finally forgotten.

What can be left in the end? It's empty. Now, the old lama gave him one last chance to reform, but he decided to give up.He is not a qualified monk, he must control the whole of Tibet. So he led the army and headed towards Lhasa.Regardless of the outcome, he will fight. This old monk, like any hero in history, goes forward bravely, although the future is unknown. His old face was engraved with more wrinkles by the bitter wind, and the corners of his eyes had drooped downwards, making him look old; but he tightly pursed his lips, and the line of his jaw was as hard as a rock. It's really sad and respectable.

On the vast plateau, the old Sangye Gyatso rushed to his final journey. He knew that he had no more chances... This time, he must succeed! However, the world is always so unpredictable, and Sangye Gyatso's subordinates retreated out of fear, taking a large number of troops with them.In the ensuing battle, he was undoubtedly defeated by Razang Khan. This is probably the biggest fiasco in his life. All of a sudden, he became a prisoner from an all-powerful person. At the same time, Lazang Khan was searching for Sangye Gyatso's faults, recorded them, and sent people to Beijing. After Kangxi saw this memorial, he sent two envoys to inquire about the situation. However, before the envoy arrived, Lazang Khan executed Sangye Gyatso. At that time, Sangye Gyatso was 52 years old.The life of this legendary Diba ended in this way. Before being executed, he stayed quietly in the dark prison, recalling his life.He was taken in by the Fifth Dalai Lama and trained by his side since he was a child, learning all kinds of obscure knowledge.Later, with the help of the fifth Dalai Lama, he ascended to the throne of Diba at a young age. Sangye Gyatso, who had tasted the taste of power, became more and more obsessed with this intangible and insubstantial thing that could bring him everything. After the fifth Dalai Lama died, he took over the overall situation. However, thinking of the covetous Mongols and the emperor far away in Beijing, he still couldn't feel relieved. His ambition is growing. But what was left of all his fame and fortune during his lifetime when he was about to die?Have you worked hard all your life to get something, has it ever brought you any happiness, has it ever brought you peace of mind? Sangye Gyatso could not give himself an answer. However, in his heart, he must have regretted it.In the last days of his life, he thought of the young man named Tsangyang Gyatso. He gave this young man everything: high power, gorgeous clothes, delicious food. But he also took everything from him: love, friends, freedom. He should have been a singer, a poet, but he was imprisoned in a gorgeous cage. How many people did he sacrifice for his own desire? The blood in the Potala Palace, the wailing of the lover, the helpless eyes of relatives and friends, even his son was terrified when facing him, he could see the young man trembling in front of him, like a lamb Meet the most ferocious wolf. He once desperately wanted to climb to the highest peak of power, but at the last moment, he fell hard from that high position. It hurts to fall, right? But the pain finally made him wake up.In the dark prison, he sat quietly in a corner. He opened his palm, and it was empty, with nothing in it.The power he had been desperate to get? What about status?Did they ever really belong to him? Yes.That alluring scepter, it has never changed. It shines on the heights, attracting batch after batch of people to shed blood and sweat for it.Only those who try to hold on to it change. At the last moment of his life, Sangye Gyatso also began to yearn for those worldly emotions. He had thought they were pointless. But now, he is so envious of those ordinary people who were trampled under his feet. But he also knew that he had gone too far.He pushed those beautiful things away from him and let them be destroyed. It was himself, like a madman, who put everything in this gamble... There was no room for maneuver. His son has disappeared, and the only person he can meet is the sixth Dalai Lama, whom he has always treated as a puppet. He begged to see the child he had hurt so much. But what he got was a piece of paper with Tsangyang Gyatso's handwriting on it: when in love, Don't finish the love story; when thirsty, Do not drink up the pool water; Once things change, It was too late to regret. (Translated by Gao Ping) Tsangyang Gyatso's poems were not written to resent Sangye Gyatso. But this poem is the one that Lhazang Khan found in Tsangyang Gyatso's poems that can best defeat Sangye Gyatso spiritually. The merciless tone pointed directly at the heart of Sangye Gyatso-if you know today, why bother! In his old age, Sangye Gyatso's heart trembled. He was so knowledgeable and wise, besides killing and power, he also pursued other things, such as medicine and Buddhism. But the desire for power blinded his eyes, so that he did not leave a way out for himself. Sangye Gyatso missed countless opportunities to turn back, and missed countless opportunities to return to his original heart. If he could rein in the precipice, give up the confrontation with Lazang Khan, and follow the Living Buddha into the mountains to practice, presumably the tragedy that followed would not have happened. He can then study his Dharma and medicine in the silent mountain. Unfortunately, there is no regret medicine in the world. In infinite remorse, Sangye Gyatso waited for his own death. There is no doubt that history has remembered him since then. But he has definitely disappeared from this world. People who play tricks all their lives will gradually become blurred in people's memory after they die.The body that used to sit on a high position, wrapped in gorgeous clothes, will also rot, turn into dust, be blown away by the wind, blend into this world, and become a part of nature. Or occasionally someone grieves for him, but who is buried deep in the ground, can they still know? "What is the way to die? Hold your body on the same mountain." After death, what else is there? The world will not stop its development and changes because of a person's death. No matter how famous a person is, after his death, everything behind him is meaningless.Fame and power are even more ridiculous. This is death, which makes people unconscious. It is a pity that Sangye Gyatso did not understand this truth until the last moment of his life.If he could see through it earlier, would there be no such killings, no regrets, and no tragic life of Tsangyang Gyatso? In this world, there must be one more free poet. This is the sorrow of Sangye Gyatso and the doom of Tsangyang Gyatso. In the end, Sangye Gyatso turned into dust, but Tsangyang Gyatso had to bear the sins he committed. The young man who longed to write poetry was about to usher in his last catastrophe.
