Home Categories Biographical memories Talking about Great Literati in the Republic of China: Those Masters of Chinese Studies
When the sad news of Liang Qichao's death came out, both political and academic circles felt deeply sorry.Beijing Guanghui Temple and Shanghai Jing'an Temple held memorial services for Liang respectively.Feng Yuxiang called Liang Qichao "talent as great as the sea"; Hou E sang Liang "alone to save Shenzhou from danger, righteousness will never die"; "Be the first to develop Chinese customs, and the merits are not after Sun (Yat-sen) Huang (Xing)". Cai Yuanpei turned Liang Qichao: "To protect the republic, we should be immortal like Songpo; to promote Europeanization, we should not let the South China Sea make us feel wrong."

Chen Shaobai appealed to Liang Qichao: "Five is not in vain, the public opinion should be pity for this ambition; ten thousand words can be stood up, genius is not a regular teacher." Zhang Taiyan turned Liang Qichao: "Advance and retreat up and down, jump in the abyss, take the teacher's words, Kuangfu deeply forgives himself; recover from the strange, the way is one, catch the tyrants and rule, and recreate the people of Rice." Yang Quan turned on Liang Qichao: "Wenkai vernacular is the first of its kind, and it has its own history of meritorious service; the government is like a school of young crops, and finally pity relies on misguided heroes."

Yang Du persuaded Liang Qichao: "Career is ordinary, victory is a pleasure, defeat is also gratifying; articles have been scattered for a long time, everyone wants to kill, I am the only one who has pity." When Liang Zhi's coffin was buried in Xiangshan Cemetery, Wu Qichang delivered a speech in front of the tomb on behalf of all the students of Tsinghua University Graduate School. The sacrificial oration written by him is full of grief for the sudden death of his mentor, and he fondly recalls the joyful learning scene between the teacher and his brother in the past: In 1943, Chongqing Shengli Publishing House organized the compilation of "Story Collection of Chinese Famous Sages in Past Dynasties", including "Liang Qichao", and invited Liang's disciple Wu Qichang to write it.Wu Shi was already seriously ill, but he graciously agreed.Wu wrote 50,000 words in one breath in one month, and died of illness in Leshan a month later at the age of forty.Wu Qichang's "Liang Qichao" only wrote when Liang Qichao's reform failed, but this half of Liang Qichao's biography, which condensed Wu's hard work, is famous all over the world.
