When Wu Mi was studying in the United States, under the influence of Chen Yinke, he liked to buy books. It is said that Wu Mi was impulsive at that time, and bought the complete set of "The Complete Works of Shakespeare" with various annotations and compilations, a total of 19 huge volumes, at a cost of US$60 (official fees for international students were US$100 per month). go back. When Wu Mi returned to the country, he took great pains to transport this set of books back to the country, and they have not used them for many years. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Wu Mi was displaced and moved several times. Because there was no suitable storage place, Wu Mi could only carry this book with him all the time. In 1947, Wu Mi couldn't bear the burden of this book anymore, reluctantly parted with her, and sold it to Sun Dayu, which was regarded as throwing away a burden.

Wu Mi opposed vernacular throughout his life, but he had written works in vernacular. In 1928, Wu Mi went south to visit Mao Yanwen. Mao Yanwen asked Wu to write an essay in vernacular for "Women of the Week" edited by him.The title of the article is "Literature and Women", signed by Wang Zhixiong. On July 7, 1937, Xiangshan Ci Kindergarten held the third homecoming festival. At that time, Xiong Xiling and Mao Yanwen were in Qingdao and did not return to Peiping to participate in the homecoming festival.Wu Mi read in the newspaper that the reason why Xiong Xiling was unable to attend the Homecoming Festival was illness. He believed that Xiong Xiling's illness was a fake, and he used the illness as an excuse to "live in peace and contentment, worry about trekking, and be too lazy to socialize" (Wu Mi's Diary ) is true, and concluded that the reason Xiong did so was probably following Mao Yanwen's proposition.

On November 10, 1937, Wu Mi left Peiping and went to Qingdao by boat. The boat was very crowded, there were fleeing people everywhere, and there was almost no place to stand in the cabin. Fortunately, Wu Mi still had a bed at that time.According to Wu Mi's records, there were crowds of people and messy luggage everywhere. A Guangdong businessman carried a basket of raw crabs. Accidentally, the crabs crawled out of the basket, and one of them crawled onto Wu Mi's bed. Surprised, he hurriedly got up to catch crabs. After a toss, he was sleepless all night. After Wu Mi published his "Poetry Collection", some students asked the meaning of each poem under the pretext of studying allusions. Some Wu Mi were willing to speak, while others kept silent. But in the end, Wu Mi was like an undefended city, which would collapse as soon as it was attacked. The students couldn't help asking questions one after another, so they spoke out all at once, even the nickname of the person he liked. Then he consciously made a slip of the tongue, just like an urchin sticking out his tongue out of fear knowing that he has done something bad.

In the Republic of China, there were several scholars whose diaries were famous for recording trivia, including Zhao Yuanren, Lu Xun, and Wu Mi.For example, "Wu Mi's Diary" stated on February 25, 1938: "Gongchao accompanied Mi to the Bank of Communications and exchanged 35 yuan for Hong Kong dollars for 32 yuan. Gongchao borrowed Mi Hong Kong dollars for 10 HK dollars ( never returned).” In 1938, in Mengzi, Wu Mi rented with Tang Yongtong, Rong Zhaozu, He Lin, Shen Youding, Qian Mu, Yao Congwu and others in a western-style building east of the campus, which Wu Mi named "Tiannan Jingshe". "Wu Mi's Diary" records that Tiannan Jingshe "was located in the east of the school, next to the French hospital. There was a western-style two-story building with a red roof and yellow walls, in a walled vegetable garden. There were many flowers and trees. It is colorful and the scenery is very beautiful. This house is commonly known as the Red Mansion, and it was originally built in France.” The professors of the Lianda University who stayed in the “Tiannan Jingshe” elected Wu Mi as the president and Pu Jiangqing as the manager. They hired people to buy vegetables, cook meals, carry water, and deliver letters.Wu Mi formulated the regulations, and the rent was shared according to the room. There were three kinds of rooms: five yuan, six yuan, and seven yuan per month. Food and miscellaneous expenses were shared equally by all the members who lived in the commune.A total of twelve or thirteen yuan is needed per person per month. When Qian Mu recalled this unforgettable life in "Miscellaneous Memories of Teachers and Friends", he wrote: "Yu and other seven people each lived in a separate room and gathered for three meals. Qun Tui Yusheng (Wu Mi) was the commander-in-chief. Before three meals, Yu Sheng knocked on the door and shouted at the door, and he was not late. He also formed a team to avoid air raids. For ten consecutive days, Yu Sheng gave orders, just like being in the army and encountering the enemy.

When I was at Southwest Associated University, the residences of the teachers and students of the Alliance were often attacked by Japanese planes, and the living conditions were very poor. In "Wu Mi's Diary", there are many descriptions of the scene after the earthquake in the dormitory: "In the night, the wind. In the building where Mi lives, the windows are opened, and the wind enters the place where the roof is blown. The wallboards fall, and the wallpaper also blows off. Mi Jue Very cold. (October 23, 1940) Everyone in the house went out, so Mi swept away the accumulated dirt on the windows and went to bed quietly.Only the roof of the apartment was broken several times, the corners of the eaves were slightly damaged, and the glass windows were shattered.By the time Mi returned, the flying tiles, stones and dust had all been swept away. (January 29, 1941)

Arrived at 4:00, the main house only has a square-inch hole pierced through the roof of Xiao Yun's small room.A piece of iron fell off the bed.The house is covered with dust, and the paper on the window is broken! (April 29, 1941) Although my room is not leaking, the room of FT (referring to Chen Futian, a professor of the Department of Foreign Languages of the United Nations University) and Daisun over there is already leaking. A large piece of land. ... You see, our window is open, and the bombardment-torn gap in the panel wall is pasted with thick paper, and the paper is blown torn.My bed is facing the draft from the window, so I caught a cold last night.Tonight, Mr. Chen Shiingshen has blocked the window tightly with his luggage bag, and now the wind and rain cannot penetrate at all. (May 28, 1941)"

When Wu Mi was at Southwest Associated University, he made many friends.Wu Mi has been in contact with Guan Linzheng, Du Yuming, Huang Wei, Song Xilian, Zhang Yaoming and other soldiers, Miao Yuntai, the head of finance and finance in Yunnan, and Gao Yuzhu, a famous female chieftain with "modern and unique decoration", and so on. Both Wu Mi and Guan Linzheng are from Shaanxi, and they have a close relationship with each other and have many contacts. The exchanges between the two were mostly casual conversations, but Wu Mi sometimes asked him to do errands, such as asking Guan to introduce him to take a military vehicle or consign clothes, apply for a pass, etc. Before Wu Mi left Kunming for Chengdu, Guan donated a total of 20,000 yuan twice, "Mi resigned and then accepted it" ("Wu Mi Diary" September 1, 1944).Of course, Wu Mi will also do things for Guan, such as being a gunner for Guan, "On behalf of General Guan, congratulate the wife of the 13th regiment of the Central Gendarmerie Long's wife on her 30th birthday. The poem said: 'Miaoyu Yingcai is a strong husband and wife, innocently swaying to Chanjuan Xiao. The new sword is full of vigor, and thirty achievements will be the first to win.'" After that, Wu You, on behalf of Ge Mou, the sub-supervisor of the Ninth Army Station, wrote a poem about General Tai Weng Shou of Guan Linzheng: "One town of Qinde Wang, 20 years of service .Teach your son to become a famous general, destroy Hu repeatedly encirclement. God should grant a longevity test, and everyone speaks of divine power. Loyalty and filial piety are like a mirror, and it will never last forever.'" But Wu Mi looked down on Guan Linzheng from the bottom of his heart. He wrote in his diary: "Guan Linzheng The general recruited Kunming painters and forced him to paint 140 paintings, which will be given to 140 American military officers who trained Chinese military officers in Wenshan. Each of them will draw another picture as a gift to General Guan. (Paper issued on the spot) Hey, the job is not repaired, The army can't fight, and when they see beauties, they just make love with each other. They are generous with the generosity of others and order painters to donate, which is greedy and violent. The general is too much!"

Wu Mi has a lush beard, and some students described that the beards on both sides of his face will never be the same: he just shaved the left side, and when he shaved the right side, the left side grew back.During the Anti-Japanese War, someone published an article "Mr. Beard——Wu Mi" in Life Herald. After reading it, Wu Mi was furious, thinking that the author not only did not understand his thoughts well enough, but also that the nickname of Mr. Beard violated respect for teachers. The purpose of the Tao.Immediately wrote thousands of words of "After Reading" to criticize it.

Once, near the Southwest Associated University, Wu Mi saw a Kuomintang officer shooting a bird with a gun, and stepped forward to dissuade him, saying, "It's best to save the bullet to shoot the Japanese. It's a pity to shoot the bird." Word.At this moment, several students passed by and bowed to Wu Mi to say hello. The military officials knew that he was a poor professor, so they wanted to attack him.Seeing this, Wu Mi hurriedly left with the students. In 1948, the French Consul in Hankou sent a servant to send invitations to Wu Mi. When the servant arrived at Wu’s house, Wu was chatting with the guests, and the servant shouted: “Who is Wu, come out to pick up things. I was sent by the French consul!” Mi was very angry, and angrily scolded the servant for being unreasonable, but the servant was not to be outdone, and spoke rudely.Angrily, Wu took out his cane, slapped it on the table and said, "I'm going to beat you!" Seeing this, the servant panicked and said while running, "You dare to hit me! I'll go to the French and sue you!" Wu Mi chased out the door and shouted, "Go and tell your consul to come and apologize to me tomorrow!"

After 1949, Wu Mi taught at Southwest Normal University.Once, a female teacher knitted a pair of woolen socks for Wu Mi, and Wu gave the female teacher 100 yuan.Someone said to Wu Mi: "How much is a pair of socks worth? You gave too much." Wu Mi replied: "How much? Not much. Included in it, I don't give her much." Another time, a teacher in the Chinese Department borrowed five yuan from Wu Mi, explaining that he would pay it back in a week.A week later, the teacher has not returned the money.Wu Mi went to the door and asked him to recover the owed money. The teacher was very upset, and said to everyone: "Wu Mi is a cheapskate, and he is ashamed to come to ask for five yuan if I lend him five yuan." Wu Mi explained to others: "I am not for five yuan, I am helping He raises morals."
