In 1907, Liu Shipei was invited by Zhang Taiyan to travel to Japan with his family. At that time, there was an anarchist trend of thought in the Japanese Socialist Party. After Liu Shipei got acquainted with Shusui Kotoku, he quickly transformed into an anarchist. Three months after arriving in Japan, He Zhen initiated the "Women's Rejuvenation Association" and founded the official publication "Tianyi Bao", fanatically advocating anarchism. "Tianyi" publicized and introduced the thoughts of Proudhon, Bakunin, Kropotkin, Tolstoy and other representatives of anarchism.Liu Shipei also wrote for the newspaper. He comprehensively introduced Kropotkin's thoughts, summarizing them as "the theory of mutual support" and "theory of no center."

Liu Shipei once published the article "Anarchist View of Equality", which comprehensively expounded his anarchist thoughts. Liu Shipei, Zhang Taiyan, Zhang Ji and others organized a "socialism seminar" to preach anarchism among Chinese students studying in Japan. The anarchism promoted by Liu Shipei and others is a mixture of Chinese studies, Enlightenment, Marxism and anarchism. In 1907, Zhang Taiyan led the "Trade against Sun" in the Tongmenghui. Liu Shipei was one of Zhang Taiyan's supporters, which caused Liu Shipei's extreme dissatisfaction with the revolutionaries.Tao Chengzhang said that at that time Liu Shipei "saw Sun Wen accepting bribes from outsiders, and felt lighthearted. Xun also fought for power by handling affairs in the meeting, and hated the party members."Liu Shipei himself also attributed the reason for his "betrayal" to his "disappointment" with the revolutionaries. He said: "After traveling to the East, I observed his hidden situation, and then I realized the mistakes of the revolution in the past."

Liu Shipei hated and despised Sun Yat-sen very much, thinking that "Gai Sun's texts are unlearned, greedy by nature, and don't know what virtue is."He once sent Japanese Kita Terujiro and Kiyoto Koshichiro to discuss with Cheng Jiatong, and wanted to hire killers to take the head of Sun Yat-sen.Cheng was an undercover revolutionary of the Qing court, and Liu Shipei didn't know about it. Because Cheng told Liu Kuiyi, Song Jiaoren and others about it, Liu Shipei's assassination plan failed.Afterwards, Liu Shipei hated Cheng Jiatama for spoiling his good deeds, so he instigated the Japanese Kato Kato and Yoshiten Saburo to lure Cheng to a remote place and beat him up.If the police hadn't come to stop him, Cheng would have died. However, due to brain damage, he often suffered from pain and his memory dropped sharply. (One said that it was Liu Kuiyi who was beaten)

Liu Shipei "fears the party members outside, but fears his wife inside".Disappointment with the revolutionaries, obedience to his wife, and rebellion with Zhang Taiyan eventually led him to leave the revolutionary camp and fall to Duanfang, a famous reformist in the Qing court. At the end of 1907, He Zhen came forward to contact him. He wrote "Shangduan Fang Shu", expressing that in the future, he "wanted to take the elimination of chaos as his own responsibility, serve the imperial court a little bit, and also reward the kindness of the Duke of Ming Dynasty", and offered "Ten Strategies for Elimination of Chaos", Betrayed the revolution, but he did not immediately break with the revolutionaries, but secretly acted as a secret agent for the party.

Many people speculated that the reason for Liu Shipei's defection was related to He Zhen's excessive spending of money.Someone wrote: "He Zhen is quite famous in Tokyo, and he has an affair with his so-called brother-in-law Wang Gongquan. It is not a good thing for a person to find a beautiful wife. Beautiful people always have some hobbies. First, they like grooming, and second. Two hobbies, both of which require a lot of money to squander. Since her husband cannot satisfy her desires, she is easily tempted by outsiders. He Zhen was the first to rebel and was bought by Duan Fang, the governor of Liangjiang, and then Liu Shipei. This black boat is Wang Gongquan who is going through the needles in the middle."

According to Mei Hesun, Liu Shipei's nephew, when Duanfang was the governor of Liangjiang, Li Ruiqing was the supervisor of Liangjiang Normal School. Some people suggested that Liu Shipei should be hired as a professor of history in the normal school, but Li Ruiqing did not dare to make decisions on his own because Liu was a revolutionary party member. Don't talk about racial revolution. If he can come, he will be selected." Duan Fang then ordered Fan Yunmen, the governor of Jiangning feudal clan, to issue a letter of courtesy, and Li and Chen sent an appointment to return to China.Liu Shipei was very hesitant after receiving the call, but He Zhen didn't want to live in Japan anymore. He listened to the villain's words and conformed to her thoughts of fame and fortune.Liu Shipei was negligent in the world and had no position of his own, so he listened to his wife and returned home.

On May 24, 1908, Liu Shipei used the stolen private seal of Zhang Taiyan to publish the "Binglin Announcement" in Shanghai's "Shenzhou Daily" under the name of Zhang Taiyan, saying that Zhang was going to "sweep behind closed doors, research and explain the scriptures, not I will invite eminent monks to be ordained today, surpassing the mortal world, and all friends, new or old, who ask questions about this matter, will be declined." Zhang Taiyan was very angry when he saw the notice, and published "Special Letters" in "Min Bao" on June 10 Advertisement", clarified the facts, and claimed that the Liu couple were secret agents of the Qing court. So far, Zhang and Liu turned against each other.

Liu Shipei said: "The purpose of the Chinese Revolutionary Party is nothing more than nationalism, and there is no revolution outside the old house. Since then, Shi Pei has set up words against nationalism and quoted facts in his writings and speeches since then. , to disprove what is wrong. Because facts are born of academic theory, if everyone knows that nationalism is not in line with academic theory, then the fact of exhaustion will disappear invisibly. This is what the ancients said. After Liu Shipei took refuge in Duanfang, he still kept in touch with the revolutionaries, but it was to act as an undercover agent for the Qing court. The first thing he did after his betrayal was to trap Tao Chengzhang. In the winter of 1908, after the incident of Xu Xilin, Tao Chengzhang was wanted by the Qing government. Based on his "deep relationship" with Tao, Liu Shipei and Mi Zhanyuan, the military superintendent of Liangjiang, went to various docks to check Chengzhang's whereabouts. Fang's order, and Zhang Gong reported to Duan Fang, and Zhang Gong was interrogated."

After Zhang Gong was arrested, Wang Jinfa broke into Liu Shipei's apartment with a gun. Liu knelt down and begged for mercy, willing to guarantee Zhang Gong's safety with his wealth and life, so that he would not die.Wang Gongquan was not so lucky, and was shot dead by Wang Jinfa in 1909.Afterwards, Chen Qimei ordered Chiang Kai-shek and others to secretly get rid of Liu Shipei, but because Sun Yat-sen was afraid that the assassination would expose the uprising plan and prevented their actions, Liu Shipei escaped again. After Wang Gongquan was killed, Liu Shipei publicly became an aide of Duanfang, determined epigraphs for Duanfang, and taught at Liangjiang Normal School.Liu Shipei completely broke with the revolutionaries.

In 1911, Liu Shipei entered Sichuan accompanied by Duan Fang, who was the Minister of Supervision of the Sichuan-Han Railway and the Guangdong-Han Railway.During the road protection movement, Duan Fang was killed for suppressing the movement, and Liu Shipei was also arrested by the revolutionary army in Zizhou. After the victory of the Revolution of 1911, Liu was released on bail by Sun Yat-sen.After he was released from prison, Liu Jingxie Wuliang introduced him to teach at Sichuan National University.Liu Shipei later served as the vice president of Chengdu Guoxue Academy, and taught in Sichuan Guoxue School, teaching "Zuo Zhuan", "Shuowen Jiezi" and other courses, and initiated the establishment of Sichuan Guoxue Academy with Xie Wuliang, Liao Jiping, Wu Yu and others. "Abandoned Calendar" and so on.

In the summer of 1913, Liu Shipei left Chengdu. He stated in his "Book with Chengdu Chinese Academy of Sciences" that he wanted to work hard in Sichuan and revive Chinese studies, but he was unable to do what he wanted, and he was sick and ready to return to his hometown. However, he did not return to his hometown Yizheng, but went to Shanxi to work as a tutor for Nan Guixin's family. After being introduced by Nan, he became Yan Xishan's staff. Yan Xishan valued Liu Shipei's knowledge and recommended him to Yuan Shikai.During the process of Yuan Shikai proclaiming himself emperor, Liu Shipei spared no effort to serve Yuan. In 1916, Yuan Shikai died before the full text of his "On the Restoration of Monarchy" written by Yuan Shikai advocating the monarchy was published.Liu Shipei was included in the wanted list, but thanks to Li Jingxi's guarantee, he was spared from prison.
