When Cai Yuanpei hired Liang Shuming as a teacher at Peking University, he was only twenty-four years old.In the past, Liang Shuming applied for Peking University many times but failed. In the end, he was admitted to Zhili Public School of Law and Politics. He was just a technical secondary school graduate. In 1916, the "Oriental Magazine" in Shanghai serialized an article written by Liang Shuming, "Theory of Casuism in Yuan Dynasty". Cai Yuanpei discussed with Chen Duxiu, then dean of liberal arts, and decided to hire Liang Shuming to teach at the school, but Liang Shuming was very panicked by this.He said to Cai Yuanpei: "I'm just a beginner in Buddhist scriptures, and I don't know anything about other Indian philosophy." Cai Yuanpei immediately asked, "Then do you know anyone who can teach Indian philosophy?" Liang Shuming didn't know, and Cai Yuanpei continued: "We haven't found anyone who can really teach Indian philosophy. They are similar to each other anyway, so you should do it!" So the young Liang Shuming boarded the podium of the highest university in the country, and the newspapers and magazines were also very lively. some.

Liang Shuming made no secret of his frankness when he first arrived at Peking University. On the first day he gave a lecture on "Indian Philosophy", he said to the students attending the class: "I am here to do nothing but play for Sakyamuni and Confucius. "Most of the students under the podium were enthusiastic supporters of "Down with the Confucian Family Store". During this period, Gu Hongming, a conservative representative who was also at Peking University, suffered a lot from the students. At that time, Peking University was full of talents. He is still an unknown person, even if he is dismissed, no one will find it new, but he has been teaching at Peking University for seven years. The Confucius class he taught is very popular, and students are vying to hear how he works for Confucius and Sakyamuni. defensive.

In 1924, when Liang Shuming left Peking University, someone asked him the reason. He said: "Because I felt that the education at that time was wrong, and my husband didn't care about the students." He believed that my husband should be friends with young people. The so-called friend refers to helping them walk; the so-called walking refers to making a person's whole life move forward including skills and knowledge. "Education should focus on a person's whole life, and to lead him on the road of life, the most important thing is the vitality of the body and the simplicity of the mind."

Liang Shuming has long advocated education to save the country, and he started with the most basic education. For this reason, he resigned from his teaching position at Peking University and went to Heze, Shandong Province as the principal of a middle school. He is also committed to rural construction, implementing social transformation, and established the Shandong Rural Construction Research Institute in Zouping County to improve the quality of villagers, develop the rural economy, and change the backwardness of rural China.Liang Shuming was often followed by some disciples, so he imitated the model of lectures in the Song and Ming Dynasties. Every morning, he called people together, or sat silently, or had a chat, in order to understand life and reflect on himself. He called such gatherings "courtesy meetings".Liang Shuming's speech at the court meeting was later compiled by his disciples into a book "chaohua", which is quite similar to that of Confucius.Liang Shuming's "chaohua" usually goes to the end and wins with vigilance. For example, this sentence: "On the timeline of life, what you can't relax for a moment is how to deal with yourself. If you can't do anything about yourself, you can't do anything about everything." Method."

Liang Peishu, Liang Shuming's son, believed that they may have received the most liberal education and possessed the greatest autonomy that others did not have.Liang Peishu said that he never graduated from elementary school, middle school, or university, because he dropped out of school every time, sometimes because of moving, sometimes because Liang Peishu himself didn't want to go to school. What surprised Liang Peishu was that his father Liang Shuming took a spontaneity attitude towards him, and later he was persuaded by others to go to school again. When Liang Peikuan recalled his father Liang Shuming, he often said: "Father is completely lenient to me... I don't feel any kind of mental pressure in front of my father. He never treats children or young people with a serious look. …My father thought it was good, and he encouraged it explicitly or implicitly. If he disagreed, let me know that he disagreed, but he never interfered.”

Liang Shuming never asked his sons in terms of study or grades.Once Liang Peikuan scored 59 points in the exam, he once showed his father a notice from the school asking for a make-up exam.Liang Shuming only glanced at it, then returned it to him.Liang Peikuan said that his father is not actually not strict with himself, but he thinks it is good for you to know about this kind of thing, and you should be responsible for your own affairs.Liang Shuming even used this educational method in his own political experiments.
