Chapter 28 1. Teacher Tang Xianhu

From the first day of practicing badminton, I was not a "three-good student".My self-willedness and my temper made me once considered to be unruly and an outlier in the badminton team.My emotions of competing and fighting against myself did not gradually calm down until coach Tang Xianhu came to me at the end of 2007, and I gradually learned how to get along with myself peacefully. In the Chinese badminton team and even the world badminton world, Tang Xianhu is known as the "magic coach" - he was 37 years old before hanging up the auction, 60 years old in charge of the Chinese men's doubles coach seal, and single-handedly created the "wind and cloud combination" of the men's doubles... He has created too much Miracle. He could have lived a "retirement" life, but for the Chinese men's singles, or even more bluntly, for me, he gave up enjoying family happiness and came out again.

There have been many coaches who have helped me along the way growing up.Like coach Tang Xianhu, they have been working hard in obscurity.Fortunately, at different times, they all pushed me forward, and finally gave me the opportunity to cooperate with Director Tang in 2007. Among so many coaches I follow, coach Tang Xianhu is the most special. He once coached in Indonesia and also led the players of other groups of the Chinese team. The reason why so many players trust him is because he knows how to respect athletes. Many Chinese coaches hope that athletes can reach an agreement with them, but Director Tang is willing to hear different voices. What he hopes to present in front of him is the most authentic self.It felt very fresh to me, I have never encountered this kind of teaching style. When this trust is established between us, it will only make us more determined to go on.

I do have a lot of problems with me.Of course I have my personality and temper, and when I don't practice well, I get angry with myself or beat the beat.In the eyes of all coaches, this is like making a big mistake. They will definitely use the most severe tone or method to stop me, and even point at me angrily: "Get down for me, you are not allowed to practice." Because Chinese athletes train the hardest and listen to the coach the most, no one Dare to do it.But for athletes with my personality, I simply disdain what they said.I just feel like they don't understand me at all.Because, every time I lose my temper, I practice more.I'm an athlete with that personality.

It's a pity that I had been in the national team for eight or eight years at that time, but no one discovered that I had such characteristics and abilities. During my preparation for the 2008 Olympics, I dropped countless rackets.I never thought I'd drop so many racquets. There must be one for three days, and it is very common to drop three in one class when you don't practice well. But director Tang never criticizes me for the first time, never. He probably didn't even look at me, and turned around to watch the other players practice. When I lose my temper and beat the racket, many teammates will stop to look at me, and the women's teammates will talk about me quietly. And I am an adult, I will find a way to restrain myself and calm down. Therefore, every time I finish the racket, I will continue to choose the second racket and return to the court. At this time, I will tell myself: I still have to practice it well. After I get back into training, Director Tang will turn to look at me again, and continue to complete the remaining 40 or even 80 minutes of training.

After the training is over, Director Tang will choose a very humorous way to tell me: "Hey, your racket is already limited, and the whole team has stopped using this type of racket because of you, and it is reserved for you. If you fall like this again, the sponsor may not be able to produce such a racket for you.” At that time, I was both embarrassed and felt that what he said made sense.Director Tang's set is something I have to obey. Director Tang is from here.He understands that under tremendous pressure, athletes will release in a way that others find incredible. He watched me throw so many rackets, but he was very calm.It was as if this scene had happened to him before. But according to Director Tang, "I'm too old to be 'excited'"!

Until now, Director Tang is one of the coaches I admire the most.I am very grateful to him. In fact, there is no need for him to take over a player like me.But at the end of 2007, when the team decided to let him coach me, he didn't refuse. This means that he has to bear extraordinary pressure for this. You know, men's singles is the most concerned about badminton, there is no doubt about it.While many people aim their guns at Lin Dan, they will also aim at the coach behind him.So I think, at Director Tang's age, it is really out of the kindness between master and apprentice that he is required to bear everything that he should not have to face.

A few years ago, when Tang Dao was coaching men's doubles, I also heard some interesting stories. For example, the weather in Beijing is cold in winter, and the team members get up at 7 in the morning, and no one dares to wake up Director Tang in his sleep. It wasn't until an hour later that the whole team gathered downstairs in the apartment and took the bus to the training hall, only to see Director Tang slowly going downstairs with a box of milk in his hand. Because of frequent headaches, Director Tang wears a peaked cap all year round.Sometimes the team members want to be lazy, but they can't tell where Director Tang is looking. But always when we didn't notice, there was a voice "××, don't be lazy" from behind, which made people break out in a cold sweat. But after a while, you will find that Director Tang under the peaked cap is sleeping back into the cage.

From the first day when he came to me, Director Tang has been with me almost every step of the way.As small as my usual pre-training activities, as large as practicing skills and even physical training, after completing all the exercises, and then relaxing afterward, he has always been by my side, as if he has never left me.He always took the initiative to ask me slowly: "How do you feel today?" He likes to chat with me very much, asking me to share my experience of the day. I used to rely on him very much. If Director Tang fails to come during training one day because he is not feeling well, I feel like something is missing. From trust to dependence, this is something I have never experienced with all previous coaches.

There are many coaches around me, and they may not come to the training hall to watch a training session in half a year. But when he is on the court, he will still give you a lot of advice, what do you want.It would be very dissatisfying for me because I feel that he is not responsible for the sport at all, because he is not with me every day, he is not even qualified to talk to me about it.It is these coaches who accompany me every day, they are more qualified to speak. At least he has a better understanding of the current state of the sport, and I admire such a coach. And some coaches forget that society evolves and the sport evolves as the world changes. He can't win by experience forever, because every game is different.

When he was still an athlete, Tang Dao made great achievements. In coaching, he often has his different views and his own unique experience. His experience is much richer than other coaches. At the Sydney Olympics, he helped Ji Xinpeng formulate effective tactics based on his understanding of the Indonesian king Ye Chengwan, allowing him to win the championship in one fell swoop with a "dark horse" attitude. He can also "turn a stone into gold" in the Chinese men's doubles in just two years. Most importantly, he is someone who truly loves the game. Director Tang doesn't have many hobbies, he doesn't like drinking, singing, or going out to play.Sometimes he would rather watch movies, listen to music, and play with his stereo in his room by himself.Director Tang has a set of Yamaha speakers. His most classic image is sitting on the sofa in the living room watching blockbuster movies on the TV alone, turning up the volume and letting the room "shake the earth and shake the mountains".He has a young and unrestrained heart.

In addition, he spends his time studying opponents, watching videos or thinking about what to train his players for the next stage.Director Tang is very, very attentive to his career.I dare say that there is no coach so far who can compare with him, not a single one.Badminton is his biggest hobby, and he seldom even mentions his children and family to us unless we take the initiative to chat.Almost all he talks to you about is badminton. It is not an exaggeration to say that he is a "ball fanatic". I respect him very much, also because for a man who is nearly seventy years old, he is desperate to continue sacrificing his time for this sport, for Lin Dan, and for the Chinese men's singles. It is impossible not to move people. The moment I won the championship at the Beijing Olympics, I threw myself into his arms like a child.Because, the only one who really treats me like my own child is Director Tang. Tang Dao has been in poor health, and he always has various medicines by his side. The air conditioner is often turned on in the arena, and Director Tang is afraid of the cold and suffers from headaches. So when I was interviewed many times later, I said that I can't demand too much from such a coach. He has dedicated too much of his time, even giving his life for this sport and the Chinese team. You can't ask so much of him every time you train. It seems that his return must help Lin Dan to win more championships.I don't want to be a burden to him, he's done what he can. And what I can do for Director Tang is to help him go to the supermarket to buy his favorite mineral water during the training camp, and send a box to his room. After hearing that kiwi fruit helps sleep, I also bought it for Tang Dao to try. From 2007 to now, although he will leave for a short time every year, our cooperation is very pleasant and we have achieved many proud achievements together. In 2011, when his family moved from Fuzhou to Dongguan and began to be in charge of the training of Li Yongbo Badminton School, as his student, I was also happy for him.In addition to the game, life is also very important in life.I hope that after the London Olympics, Director Tang can live his own life.I have also visited his home in Dongguan. It has sunshine and plants, which is very nice and suitable for him.
