Chapter 16 12. Struggle for the establishment of a legitimate Peking University Student Union

The Peking University Student Union, which was established during the "December 9th" Movement, was ordered by the Peking University authorities to "stop all activities" because of the "March 31st" coffin-carrying parade. On June 1, 1936, the National Salvation Committee of Peking University Students, which was established by the resolution of the General Assembly of All Students, has never been recognized by the school authorities.Practice has proved that without a legal student union, it is difficult to carry out anti-Japanese and national salvation work.Therefore, after the semester started in the fall of 1936, Liu Yuzhu and Ge Peiqi, representatives from the executive committee of the former student union, and representatives from various departments, negotiated with the Peking University authorities many times about organizing the Peking University student union.The authorities delayed until the end of November before they conditionally agreed to form a student union.The condition is: the organization must be organized in accordance with the "Organizational Outline of the Student Self-Government Association of Higher Education Institutions" issued by the Central Party Headquarters of the Kuomintang.Otherwise, the school will not file the case.Therefore, this student union is completely organized according to "statutory procedures".

Each class elects two representatives to form the Student Self-Government Fund Preparatory Committee. On December 4, 1936, the first preparatory committee was held in the auditorium of the Second Academy.Discussion decision: (1) The drafting committee is composed of Liu Yuzhu, Ge Peiqi, Yuan Baohua, Chen Zhongjing, Wang Dezhao, He Ji (Lu Ying), and Zhou Wenlao, who are responsible for drafting the constitution of the Student Self-Government Association; (2) The drafting member is the person in charge of the preparatory committee; (3) Establish the Student Self-Government Fund Preparatory Office.

At 8 a.m. on December 11th, in the auditorium of the Third Academy, the Peking University Student Self-Government Fund Preparatory Committee held a meeting of all students, discussed and passed the "Peking University Student Self-Government Association Charter", and officially announced the establishment of the Peking University Student Self-Government Association. According to the "Peking University Student Self-Government Association Constitution" stipulates that five people can freely combine and choose one representative, and each class elects a class representative.On the evening of December 11th, the first class representative meeting of the Peking University Student Self-Government Association was held in the large classroom of the Second Hospital.Under the guidance of the chairman of the Peking University Student Life Guidance Committee, elect the chairman, vice-chairman, and executive members of the student union.As a result, Chen Zhongjing was elected as the chairman of the student union, Ge Peiqi was the vice chairman, and 17 people including Liu Yuzhu, Yuan Baohua, Lu Ping, Hu Zhaoheng, and Gu Dachun were elected as the executive committee members.
