Chapter 56 Martyr Lai Chuanxiang (1903-1941)

Martyr Lai Chuanxiang, born in 1903, was born in Nankang County, Jiangxi Province.Since he was a child, he was diligent and studious, respected his teachers and respected his elders, and was deeply loved by parents and teachers.In his youth, Lai Chuanxiang witnessed the decline of the country, the brutal warlord rule, and the miserable life of the people, so he aspired to participate in the democratic revolution and overthrow imperialism and its lackey warlords. In 1924, Mr. Sun Yat-sen convened the first national congress of the Kuomintang in Guangzhou, affirmed the new Three People's Principles based on the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, established the Northern Expedition Army, and prepared to overthrow imperialism and its lackeys, the Northern Warlords, and unify China.When Lai Chuanxiang heard the news, he decided to devote himself to the revolution. He went through untold hardships, came to the Guangdong Revolutionary Base, and was admitted to the fourth phase of the Whampoa Military Academy.During his training at the military academy, he studied hard, was straightforward and upright, and was deeply loved by his classmates.

After graduation, Lai Chuanxiang participated in the Northern Expedition with the army. He fought bravely in previous major battles, and was good at propagating the revolutionary principles of the Northern Expedition. He organized and mobilized the masses to actively support the Northern Expedition. He served successively as a party representative, political instructor, company commander, battalion commander, regimental commander, and infantry Commander etc. In July 1937, when Lai Chuanxiang heard the news that the Japanese invaders had launched a war of aggression against China, he was furious and immediately wrote to the military authorities, requesting to go to battle to kill the enemy.Soon, he was ordered to go to Shanghai to participate in the war with the 190th Division of the Army. In the cruel Songhu battle, Lai Chuanxiang fought bravely and was good at using troops.

Later, Lai Chuanxiang moved to various anti-Japanese battlefields.In the beach battle near Jiujiang, Jiangxi, he eliminated many Japanese troops and was praised by his superiors.In Wuning's blocking battle, he guarded the key points, blocked the enemy's attack, and repeatedly defeated the enemy's front. In March 1939, during the Battle of Jinji Mountain, Lai Chuanxiang led a regiment of troops to block the Japanese army for three days and nights, ensuring the victory of the entire army in annihilating more than a thousand enemies.In June, Lai Chuanxiang was ordered to lead his army to southern Hubei, and participated in the front-line battles of Tongshan, Tongcheng, and Chongyang, and repeatedly defeated the Japanese army.In December, he was promoted to major general brigade commander with his military exploits.

In 1940, due to the reorganization of the army, Lai Chuanxiang was appointed as the infantry commander. In May 1941, Lai Chuanxiang was promoted to the deputy commander of the major general of the 190th division. In September 1941, in order to annihilate the main force of our field army, the Japanese army launched a second attack on Changsha. General Lai Chuanxiang was ordered to lead his troops to defend Changsha City. To resist, they braved the heavy bombardment of Japanese aircraft and heavy artillery, and severely attacked the invaders with infantry weapons. The two sides fought desperately and suffered heavy losses.In the battle, General Lai was unfortunately seriously injured and died heroically for his country.

In order to commend General Lai Chuanxiang for his meritorious service in resisting Japan and his patriotic spirit of killing the enemy and dying for the country, the national government specially presented Lai Chuanxiang as a lieutenant general.
