Chapter 1 sequence

Comrade Tong Xiaopeng is from Tongfang Town, Changting, Fujian. When he was under 16 in June 1930, he joined the Red Army and joined the Communist Party of China in the same month. He did political work in the First Army of the Red Army and was directly educated by Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai and other comrades. He participated in the first to fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression" wars, participated in the 25,000-mile long march, went in and out of the hail of bullets, suffered from diseases, and went through untold hardships to become a strong Red Army soldier.During this period, Comrade Tong Xiaopeng insisted on writing "Diary in the Army" with tenacious perseverance. But very real and precious.

After the Xi'an Incident in December 1936, Comrade Tong Xiaopeng followed Comrade Zhou Enlai to Xi'an and worked in the Kuomintang-controlled area for 10 years and 3 months. He has personally experienced the difficult and tortuous second Kuomintang-Communist cooperation process. Under the dangerous struggle environment in the Kuomintang-controlled area, he put his personal safety aside, worked hard to develop the party's united front, and trained to become an outstanding thousand department of our party. This is because he inherited the spirit of not being afraid of difficulties and sacrifices, the spirit of unity and struggle and the firm belief in communism during the Long March.

Comrade Tong Xiaopeng and I worked side by side for the first time in 1947.Since Chiang Kai-shek of the Kuomintang closed the door to the peace talks between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, Comrade Xiaopeng and Comrade Dong Biwu returned to Yan'an from Nanjing on March 7, 1947 as the last group to serve as the secretary general of the Central City Ministry of Industry. As Hu Zongnan was about to attack Yan'an, the central authorities were evacuated urgently. On the evening of March 8, Comrade Zhou Enlai directly approached Comrade Xiaopeng and us to explain the task (I was the director of the first room of the Social Affairs Department at the time): to establish a joint secretariat, with Xiaopeng as the secretary-general and me as the deputy secretary-general; The key department of the hall machine dialed a translation section, dialed two radio stations from the Third Bureau of the Military Commission, and asked them to report to us the next day and start operations in the evening; Timely communicated to the relevant party organizations, and promptly reported the situation in Jiang's administrative area to the central government. We passed Wayaobao and Suide, crossed the Yellow River eastward through Qikou, and arrived at Sanjiao Town, Linxian County, Shanxi Province in late March. The team successfully completed the task.Since then, the two of us have become close comrades-in-arms and established a deep relationship.

We participated in the Shenquanbao Confidential Work Conference in September 1947.Especially after the founding of the People's Republic of China, we communicated more and more. In 1956, Comrade Xiaopeng and I worked together in the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Central Committee. In 1958, Comrade Xiaopeng was transferred to be the director of the Prime Minister's Office, and I concurrently served as the deputy director.A lot of work has been done in the amnesty of Kuomintang war criminals, the implementation of Li Zongren's return to China, and caring for and solving the immediate problems of compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.Under the direct leadership of the Party Central Committee and Comrade Zhou Enlai, we have made due contributions to the realization of the great cause of the reunification of the motherland.

After we retired we were all busy writing our respective memoirs. In 1994, I went to Zhangzhou to participate in the review of Comrade Xiaopeng's memoir "Forty Years of Wind and Rain" about Comrade Zhou Enlai, and later I attended the launch ceremony. He also did a lot of work in the collection of party history. In April 2001, Comrade Xiaopeng returned to Beijing to spend his old age peacefully because of cerebral infarction. We met by chance and went to Beijing Hospital for cataract surgery on the same day. I had left eye and he had right eye. Before taking off the blindfold, we took a group photo together.Comrade Xiaopeng played his humorous genius again, saying: "We are the left and right eyes of Premier Zhou." This sentence made us laugh out loud.I wish my old comrade-in-arms happy, healthy and long life forever.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's Long March. Inspired by his father's long march, Comrade Tong Danning compiled and published his father's "Long March Diary" and "Long March Report". I think it is a meaningful thing. The introduction he wrote is so sincere that the readers can get to know the lofty spiritual realm of Comrade Tong Xiaopeng, an old Red Army soldier. Our generation of old Red Army soldiers not only hopes that the second generation can inherit and carry forward the spirit of the Red Army’s Long March, but also hopes that the revolutionary tradition will be passed on from generation to generation, so that the spirit of the Red Army’s Long March will be carried forward forever and make due contributions to the prosperity and unification of China.Comrade Hu Jintao pointed out: The Long March is a heroic epic in which the Communist Party of China leads the heroic revolution of the Chinese people.Comrade Tong Xiaopeng's "Long March Diary" is a splendid chapter in this heroic epic.

On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, I would like to dedicate this preface to this glorious army and a glorious member of this army - Comrade Tong Xiaopeng.
