My association with Comrade Zhou Enlai began around the outbreak of the Pacific War.At that time, Zhou Enlai was stationed in Chongqing on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He often invited some patriotic democrats to gather in the "Teyuan" mansion of the famous Sichuan democrat Xian Tesheng, and sometimes invited some ethnic businessmen to talk.I am a bristle exporter and the director-general of the National Import and Export Trade Association.Xu Dixin, who was working for Xinhua Daily at the time, often came to the Sichuan livestock company I ran to ask me about the export situation during the Anti-Japanese War, and sometimes exchanged some opinions on wartime economic issues. The first time I met Zhou Enlai was invited by Xu Dixin. The meeting place is in the "Special Garden".

Pig bristles, silk, tea, tung oil, etc. are all traditional and important export materials in my country. The main use of bristles is to make brushes. In addition to making toothbrushes, clothes brushes, beard brushes and other daily brushes, long bristles over three inches are generally used to make industrial brushes. Before the Anti-Japanese War, almost all the bristles needed by Western industrial countries were supplied by China. The US has historically been the largest market for Chinese bristles. Before the war, the bristles sold to the US market accounted for about 80% of China's total export value, and the remaining 20% were sold to the Western European market. After the outbreak of the Pacific War, due to the need for military supplies, the U.S. government listed bristles as a category A strategic material, which was equivalent to arms, and issued the "Bristle Restriction Act No. M51", stipulating that all bristles above three inches should be supplied to the navy, army and air force, and strictly restricted The people need to consume. The United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union also set up organizations in Washington, responsible for negotiating how to obtain bristles from China and how to distribute them.At that time, the U.S. government also sent a "special envoy" to Chongqing, saying that it was related to the outcome of the war, and asked the Chinese government to guarantee the supply.

In the early days of the Anti-Japanese War, the coastal ports of mainland China fell to the enemy one after another; the land transportation from the mainland to the outside world, including the Burma Road and the Yunnan-Vietnam Road, was also cut off one after another. For this reason, the United States opened up a China-India route, airlifting the military supplies of the US troops stationed in China from Calcutta, India to Kunming or Yibin, and then using the returning plane to transport the bristles back to China. This route has to fly over the Himalayan hump at an altitude of more than 15,000 feet. Its altitude is twice as high as the planes usually fly at that time, and it often encounters violent air currents, which break the plane, often with a 45% failure rate. Planes can go wrong. All these show that the United States does not hesitate to exchange the lives of its pilots for China's bristles.

For China, the export of bristles is not only an important source of China's wartime foreign exchange income, but also a material used to offset loans or barter from the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States. (Then it was called barter).Comrade Zhou Enlai once cared about tung oil. Later, due to the cut off of land transportation from the mainland, tung oil was too bulky to be transported abroad, so he turned to caring about bristles. It was under such circumstances that I met Comrade Zhou Enzhi. During the Anti-Japanese War, Zhou Enlai gave me the deepest impression that he insisted on national unity and fought against Japan. At that time, the bureaucratic capital of the Kuomintang monopolized 13 kinds of traditional export materials in the name of the Anti-Japanese War, and implemented the so-called unified purchase and marketing.Especially bristle, because it is a strategic material, the export profit is astonishingly large. Taking the price in 1944 as an example, the bristle purchased by bureaucratic capital enterprises from private enterprises was only 50,000 yuan per box according to the list price, while a package in Kunming or Yibin On the plane, the price of exporting to the United States was as high as 670,000 yuan (equivalent to the official price of gold), a huge difference of more than ten times. In fact, this is the wealth created by bureaucratic capital brutally exploiting workers and farmers with political privileges, and it is also competing with private enterprises for huge profits.Zhou Enlai knew about these situations, and at the same time was very indignant. Therefore, every time he talks to me, he always listens to my opinions on the one hand, pointing out the truth about the corruption of the Kuomintang and the plundering of the people by bureaucratic capital; For example, tung oil has long been unable to be exported, and the Kuomintang is still implementing "unified purchase and sales", which is actually a unified but not purchased. As a result, not only the tung oil merchants cannot survive, but also the production of tung oil has been destroyed. A large number of tung trees have been cut down, and public opinion is in an uproar .But on the other hand, Zhou Enlai also pointed out that bristle is a strategic material urgently needed by the allies such as the United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union. The Americans even believe that it is related to the victory or defeat of the Second World War. Foreign exchange earnings. Therefore, when he talked with me, he emphasized that the various unreasonable measures of the Kuomintang that hindered the development of production must be improved, so that the mane merchants can have a certain amount of profit, but they should not demand excessive profits, and must support the War of Resistance. He also said that after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the country needs to be built, and the production and export of bristles should also be developed. He encouraged businessmen to have foresight. His enlightenment gave me a lot of education and encouragement.

As early as the early 1930s, I monopolized the export of bristles from the southwestern provinces with Chongqing as the distribution center.Even in the midst of the Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang implemented a unified purchase and sale of bristles, and the bristles supplied by my company to bureaucratic capital enterprises still accounted for more than 70% of their total purchases.Of course I am opposed to this kind of official monopoly regardless of the sufferings of the people, especially because it limits my development.Although I fought against bureaucratic capital in various ways during the Anti-Japanese War, this was to prevent bureaucratic capital from engulfing my big money-making enterprise, not for other reasons. My basic attitude is to abide by the laws and measures of the Kuomintang on export trade. That is to say, I supported the War of Resistance.

My attitude is related to Zhou Enlai's enlightenment to me. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang used the military power of the United States to launch a civil war, and this situation changed. The evolution of my attitude towards the relationship with the Kuomintang and the Communist Party can be roughly divided into three stages: (1) impartiality; (2) "one push and one pull", that is, the Kuomintang pushes me outward, and the Communist Party pulls me inward; (3) Make up your mind to vote for the Communist Party. As a national capitalist, before the KMT-CCP struggle is decided, I take the middle line. But that's not to say I don't care about politics, or that I don't know who wins and loses.I'm an industrialist, and it's easy to see why I can't make business decisions if I don't care about politics. Before the Anti-Japanese War, I began to realize that national capital must be anti-imperialist and patriotic if it wants to survive and develop.

Chinese capitalists will not like "communism", but they like the people's anti-imperialist patriotic movement led by the Communist Party. The capitalists want to exploit the working people, but they have the same language and demands as the proletariat in terms of anti-imperialism and patriotism, because the two have the same interests in this regard.I think the fundamental reason why the Chinese Communist Party concludes that the Chinese national bourgeoisie has two sides and can cooperate with it to form a patriotic united front against imperialism and feudalism. During the Anti-Japanese War, the Chinese Communist Party’s policy of opposing imperialist aggression capital, bureaucratic capital, and protecting and developing national capital that is beneficial to the national economy and the people’s livelihood has been very clear. State this policy. At the same time, because of some of the above-mentioned understandings of mine, I am neither unfamiliar nor afraid of the Chinese Communist Party. The so-called "impartiality", to me, is actually a means for businessmen to do business under the historical conditions at that time.Especially for a bristle exporter like me who has monopolized a vast area of the southwestern provinces, it is a necessary means, otherwise I would not be able to run a business under the Kuomintang rule. However, I know in my heart that the real way out for Chinese national capital to survive and develop is to rely on the national anti-imperialist patriotic movement and the victory of the democratic revolution led by the Communist Party of China. There is no second way. Therefore, every time I meet Zhou Enlai and listen to him talk, I feel very cordial.

As a national capitalist, my understanding of the Chinese Communist Party has been gradually improved, and the process I have gone through is very tortuous. The so-called "one push and one pull" is a reflection of this tortuous process. As far as I am concerned, Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo, father and son of the Kuomintang, "pushed" me outward; and Zhou Enlai, the representative of the Communist Party, "pulled" me inward. On the eve of the victory in the Pacific War, the business circles and chambers of commerce of the allied countries, and in fact the governments, planned to hold a world economic conference to discuss post-war economic and international trade issues, and invited the chambers of commerce of relevant countries to send representatives to attend.Since I am the director-general of the Import and Export Trade Association, the National General Chamber of Commerce chaired by Wang Xiaolai elected me, and I was the most voted out of the 10 elected representatives. Be the head of the delegation.

Coincidentally, the Chinese Economic Society at that time was also beginning to study the economic construction of post-war China. The general director of this society is Ji Chaoding, and we became friends. At that time, I only knew that he was Kong Xiangxi’s celebrity and represented Kong Xiangxi. After liberation, I only knew that Ji Chaoding was a member of the Communist Party. How China should be built after the war is related to national policy. During the discussion, it was divided into two factions, and the debate was quite fierce.Among them, there is a majority (I call it the mainstream), which advocates that post-war construction should rely on American loans, and that the exchange rate of the US dollar against the French currency should be low rather than high.In my opinion, this actually reflects the opinions of the comprador bourgeoisie such as Kong Xiangxi and Song Ziwen.I belong to the minority and oppose this opinion on behalf of importers and exporters.I said that if the exchange rate of the US dollar is lowered, it will impact the national industry and commerce, and it will also affect the competitiveness of Chinese products in foreign markets. For post-war construction, we must never place our hopes on American loans, as that is unreliable. What is reliable is to rely on one's own economic strength to expand exports.

Most of the participants at that meeting were economists, including those from the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. After hearing my words, the Communists applauded for me, and the Kuomintang people were very upset when they heard it. This matter was known to Chiang Kai-shek.When the list of delegations attending the World Economic Conference was reported to the chairman's attendant's room, Chairman Jiang saw that Gu Gengyu was among the representatives, and approved four words under my name: "Better lack than abuse".So my representative qualification was revoked, and I was forced to resign as the director general of the Import and Export Trade Association and other groups.Even Wu Jinhang, the chairman of the Sichuan Livestock Company at that time, was being elected as a senator in Chongqing, and was forced to resign because of this.

Just a few days after Japan surrendered, news spread in Chongqing that a civil war was about to break out.At that time, reporters from "Business Daily" and "Xinhua Daily" came to visit me and asked me to talk about the current situation.I immediately said that the people have had enough suffering during the eight years of the Anti-Japanese War, and today they unanimously demand stability and never allow civil war.Just a day or two after that conversation, Pan Zinian, the head of Xinhua Daily, asked me to have dinner in Teguo.I left at the appointment, and there were Zhou Enlai, Xu Dixin, Pan Zinian and several other leaders of the CCP delegation.I'm the only guest.Zhou Enlai talked with me for a long time that time, and first asked me what I think of the current situation.I said to him, "I'm not very interested in politics. I don't think civil wars can be fought, and the country must be built on its own. From the bottom of my heart, a big brother can't fight a little brother. If you start a war, our business will be impossible, so I am firmly against civil war." After hearing this, Zhou Enlai said to me: "Peace and democracy are the common aspirations and demands of the people of the whole country. The Communist Party of China advocates peaceful nation building and opposes civil war. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, we must first have a stable political environment before we can build a nation. In order to achieve peace, the Chinese Communist Party is willing to gradually withdraw the anti-Japanese troops in some areas, but the Kuomintang troops must stop advancing towards the liberated areas. I hope that civil society groups and people from the national business community will unite to stop the civil war and build the country together.” On October 19, 1945, at the invitation of the Southwest Industrial Association, Zhou Enlai attended the Star Friday dinner party and gave a historic speech, which was closely related to the fate of national industrialists and businessmen, entitled "The Current Economic Trend".He said that China not only wants political democracy, but also economic democracy. The industry should send representatives to participate in the discussion of the peaceful nation-building plan, decide on the policy program and revise the draft constitution; Cooperate with each other under the principle; we oppose bureaucratic capital, monopoly capital and aggressive capital; Zhou Enlai's speech left a deep impression on me, and I will never forget it.On November 4, 1945, when I spoke to the reporter of "Commercial Daily", I strongly demanded to stop the civil war and peacefully build a country, and hoped that the United States would not interfere in China's internal affairs.I said: "I am a person without party affiliation. From the standpoint of ordinary people, looking at the situation of the civil war in China today, it is not a matter of you saying that I beat you, or that you beat me. Fighting alone means that you can't fight." If you say it’s wrong, both parties are wrong, and both parties should bear the responsibility. Today is an opportunity for the country’s rebirth, the bright future of the country, and the happiness of the people’s existence. The two parties cannot be destroyed in this way. Political parties represent the people, regardless of the Kuomintang. Whether it represents all classes, or the Communist Party represents farmers and workers, what the Chinese people want today is stability. Only when there is stability can merchants do business, farmers farm, and workers work. Therefore, today we must respect the people’s Will, no matter which political party violates the requirements of the business community, it will fail.” Of course, I took into account the political situation at the time and my own interests and situation in that conversation. On the surface, my conversation was still "unbiased".The so-called "common people's standpoint" is actually the standpoint of businessmen.I demand peaceful nation building and oppose civil war for nothing more than to do business. However, it is this position that makes me objectively and politically consistent with the Communist Party. And precisely because of this unanimity, the Communist Party saw me as a good person, and Chiang Kai-shek saw me as a very bad person. This is the "push" and "pull" before and after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.In the autumn of 1948, due to the successive victories of the People's War of Liberation, the Kuomintang's rule on the mainland was already facing a situation of complete collapse, and its perverse actions intensified. At that time, in my opinion, the "pushing" of the Kuomintang was not just for me alone, but for the entire national bourgeoisie. In 1948, the bristles exported by China supplied 97 to 98 percent of the world market demand. That is to say, exports have returned to pre-World War II export levels. Two months after the liberation of Jinan, the Liaoshen Campaign ended and the entire Northeast was liberated; one month later, in January 1949, Tianjin was completely liberated, and Peiping also stopped resisting. After the liberation of Tianjin, Haikou was closed for a while, and the price of bristles in the international market suddenly rose by 50%.As a bristle exporter, I cannot do without bristles, and therefore cannot do without my home country. The bristles symbolize both my wealth and my career. If I love my career, I must love my motherland. To lose my country is to lose everything I have. When Jinan was liberated, a man named Jiang Hanjie came to visit. We knew each other before the war.He told me that the Hezhong Company he founded was an underground enterprise led by the Communist Party. Now that the Liberation War is in progress, bristles from northern Jiangsu cannot be shipped to Shanghai for export, and a large amount of bristles from the liberated areas of Northeast China and Shandong can only be shipped to Hong Kong. However, foreign firms in Hong Kong do not deal in bristles and cannot sell them. He hoped that I would set up a company in Hong Kong, which would not only help the Communist Party, but also make a big business.I readily agree to cancel the general manager's office in Shanghai, move the business command organization to Hong Kong, and order the personnel and goods of other branches in other places to stay temporarily until they are released; if they lose contact with the Chongqing head office, they will contact the Hong Kong branch. connect. In the winter of 1948, the first thing I did after arriving in Hong Kong was to find the Communist Party. On the second day in Hong Kong, I met Xia Yan and Yang Hansheng.Xia Yan pulled me to a small Russian restaurant to eat cheap borscht dishes. I asked about the CCP organization in Hong Kong, and I knew that it was Pan Hannian who was in touch with politics, them with cultural circles, and Xu Dixin with economic circles. The next day, Xu Dixin came to me personally to talk about the bristle problem.I said that Tianjin was about to be liberated. The Sichuan Livestock Company had a large number of people in Tianjin. I came to Hong Kong to prepare for the resumption of bristle export business in Northeast China and North China. After meeting with Xu Dixin, I secretly reported the process of contacting the Communist Party to the board of directors, and informed the employees of the local branches not to leave their posts without authorization and wait for liberation. The Hong Kong company was established soon.I immediately started to solve the transportation problem, lent a sum of money to a company, rented ten 10,000-ton foreign ships successively, broke through Chiang Kai-shek's sea blockade, and transported bristles and other export materials from the Northeast and North China Liberated Areas to Hong Kong Come. From the end of 1948 to 1950, the bristles exported from the liberated areas were all paid by me first and then shipped. The War of Liberation was not yet completely over, trade between the newly established People's Government and the capitalist countries had not yet started, and there was no foreign exchange payment for imported materials needed domestically.Especially after the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, the imperialists blocked the coast of China and imposed an embargo. At that time, I was in Hong Kong. On the one hand, I exported the bristles from the liberated areas to the United States and Western Europe, and on the other hand, I purchased the necessary strategies for the new Chinese government abroad. Materials, made some contributions to the new China. In September 1949, almost at the same time as the CPPCC meeting, I received a notice from the Central Finance and Economics Committee in Hong Kong, inviting me to attend a national bristle meeting. At that time, I had already signed a contract with the Northeast Bristle Company of New China as its general agent in Hong Kong.Ye Jizhuang, Minister of Trade of the Northeast People's Government, wanted to invite me to the Northeast to sort out the local bristle factories. After receiving the notice, I decided to leave for Beijing to attend the meeting, but when I arrived, it was already after the founding ceremony. After arriving in Beijing, Xu Bing, deputy head of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, informed me that Premier Zhou would meet you within a day or two. On October 4, three days after the founding of New China, Xu Bing accompanied me to the home of Premier Zhou in Zhongnanhai.During the War of Liberation, I did not meet Premier Zhou. After four years of absence, the Prime Minister received me very kindly. There are only three people here, the Premier, Qiao Guanhua and me.After reminiscing about the old days, the Prime Minister said to me in a deliberative tone: "I don't have much time today, so I can't talk freely. Please consider one question first. We are going to hand over the Bristle Company to you to take full responsibility. What's your opinion? Don't rush to express your opinion, you You can consider it first.” The Prime Minister also said, “During the Anti-Japanese War, we talked with you many times about the business of tung oil and bristles. At that time, our Communist Party was not the ruling party, so we could only support you with empty words. Now that we are in power, I believe you will I can handle this matter well.” I said at the time that I could accept this task, but I hoped that the Prime Minister would give me some conditions. After I joined the China Bristle Company, what would the current Sichuan Livestock Company and a group of people in the company do?The Prime Minister asked me, what do you say?I replied, "I want to hand over all the Sichuan Livestock Company to the state." After hearing this, the Prime Minister told me that this matter needs to be considered in the long run.But I still want you to settle the bristle company matter first, so that I can notify Ye Jizhuang, Minister of Trade of the Central Committee. In the evening, the Prime Minister invited me to have dinner with several other guests. After dinner, he asked Qiao Guanhua to inform me to stay, and the Prime Minister wanted to talk to me.By the time the other guests left, it was already late at night. While continuing the conversation, Premier Zhou once again proposed to me to take full charge of the bristle company. From the bottom of my heart, I still have concerns, mainly because I don’t know much about the Communist Party. How can a capitalist lead fellow Communists?Although I follow what Premier Zhou said, I can make the decision, but such a major event still needs to be decided through the shareholders' meeting and the chairman's meeting. So I stated to the Prime Minister that I am willing to serve the people, but since I am not only engaged in bristles, but also local livestock products, with many varieties and wide sales, I need to go to various places to see before making a decision. The Prime Minister encouraged me to do this well.I finally replied to the Prime Minister: "I will try my best to do it well. But you must promise me to go out and have a look first, understand the situation in all aspects, and then report to you before making a decision. As for me personally, I can use it as the government wants. Yes, please tell the Prime Minister to Minister Ye Jizhuang first." It was four o'clock the next morning when I took my farewell to the Prime Minister. In the decades that followed, I often recalled the scene at that time. When Premier Zhou proposed to give me full responsibility for the bristle business, I was like a Sichuanese saying, "Children fire cannons-love and fear"!In the past, although I monopolized more than 50% of the country's bristle export, but now Premier Zhou said "full power", which means 100%.Although this 100% is no longer my personal monopoly, nor is it for my personal fortune, but for many years, my desire to be the leader in the bristle industry has been fully realized. How can I not be happy that Premier Zhou personally entrusted me with such a big matter!Scholars are used for confidantes, I feel that my life has not been in vain! During the conversation, I was very clear in my mind that the Communist Party must practice socialism.Just as flowers and trees must grow in spring, and the sun must rise in the sky. After liberation, there will never be monopoly capitalists in New China, not to mention that foreign trade is related to the country's economic lifeline. Therefore, when Premier Zhou talked to me, there were actually only two ways in front of me. At the close of accounts in 1949, the company had $9 million in funds and $27 million in the bank.Domestic assets, in addition to factories, office buildings, automobiles, etc., also have a large number of bristles and various livestock products, which are worth a lot of money. In this way, excluding the property of the company, my personal wealth is a full 1 million US dollars, a real millionaire.I could go to New York and live a comfortable life as an apartment, and even if I didn't do any business in the future, the money would be more than enough for me to spend my whole life.If I don't want to be an apartment for the time being, I can still stay in Hong Kong, as I did in the past two years, be a correspondent of the Communist Party, sell bristles for the Communist Party abroad, and share the same position with the Communist Party. However, I don't want to go this way.I know my roots are in the motherland. It is far from a foreign country, which is sad by the ancients. Why do I let the upright Chinese not do it, but go to the foreigners? !As for becoming a "correspondent", that is an expedient measure, not a fundamental solution. The new China is in urgent need of construction. Premier Zhou Enlai valued me so much and entrusted him with the full power of bristle management across the country. Why didn't I accept it? !I thought of the national capitalists who Premier Zhou had taught me during the Anti-Japanese War to have foresight.Zhang Jiuling from the Tang Dynasty wrote in a poem: "One branch is so precious, pity is the spring in my hometown."What should be cherished is the spring of the motherland. It’s true that I have a willow branch in my hand, but what is this willow branch compared to the splendor of New China, which is full of spring scenery? So, I chose another path, which is to cooperate with the Communist Party and be used by the Communist Party. My corporate organization and capital are ready-made, talents are ready-made, export relations are ready-made, the "Tiger Brand" trademark is competitive in the European and American markets, and the company has a good reputation among banks and peers. If I take the initiative to sell If they go out, the people's government will definitely welcome them, accept them, and make use of them. Therefore, when I said to Premier Zhou that "I will use the government as it pleases", I had considered it for a long time in advance.I was 45 years old that year.I did not make this choice lightly.Starting from the fundamental long-term interests, doing so is beneficial to the country, the enterprise, the shareholders, the employees, and myself. However, at that time, I just signed an agreement with the people's government to change the Sichuan Livestock Company into a part of a state-owned company, under the leadership of the state-owned company, and accepted the entrustment to handle export business in Hong Kong. That is to say, the Sichuan Livestock Company and the state-owned bristle company (later changed to the China Livestock Company) have changed from a transactional relationship to an organizational relationship.I did not immediately take up the post of general manager of the state-owned company, but was ordered to go to the United States to sell bristles, and at the same time import materials needed by our country from the United States, such as heavy truck tires, hardware machinery, rubber, etc.As soon as the People's Republic of China was founded, bristle exports soared, exceeding any year in the old China's exports. It made me see how great the economic potential of a unified new China is. After the Chinese People's Volunteers crossed the river, Truman ordered the freezing of mainland China's funds in the United States. At that time, the Sichuan Livestock Company’s capital in the United States amounted to more than 5 million U.S. dollars. If the materials exported to the United States entrusted by other domestic companies were included, the joint venture amounted to more than 7 million U.S. dollars, which was more than the Shanghai Savings Bank’s capital in the U.S., accounting for about all the funds in mainland China at that time. Less than one-tenth of the total amount of US funds. This fund has also been frozen, and it has been designated as a "special frozen account", which cannot be unfrozen without the approval of the President of the United States. The so-called "special freeze" is because the Sichuan Livestock Company has "special suspicion".The bristle importers in the United States and Chase Bank in Hong Kong do not believe that a private company can obtain such a large amount of bristles from the CCP.They estimated that the Sichuan Livestock Company in Hong Kong cooperated with the CCP. Fortunately, I consulted the relevant comrades in advance, and planned ahead, just in case.At that time, all my immediate family members were in Hong Kong or the United States, and none of them were in the mainland; 80% of the shares in the Hong Kong company belonged to my name, and the rest of the shareholders (actually employees of the company) were also in Hong Kong. It has been fully transferred to the state-owned enterprise, and notarized by the British Consulate General in Shanghai and Chongqing (Britain had established diplomatic relations with my country at that time, and was the agent country of the US rights and interests in China); The joint efforts of the senior staff of the US Consulate General in Hong Kong, through repeated negotiations, finally got the US government to agree to unfreeze. Unfreezing that fund, at first many people thought it was very unlikely. Some leading comrades advised me that the so-called "special suspicion" is not clear, "people are more important than money, so don't force it."But after all, it was thawed, so some people said it was "a miracle in Gu Gengyu's life".In fact, the real reason for this "miracle" was that after the outbreak of the Korean War, the United States urgently needed military bristles. The U.S. Department of Commerce and the Enemy Trade Department investigated the market back and forth, and learned that only Gu Gengyu can supply such a large amount of military bristles in the world, and no other bristle merchant has this ability. And my funds in the United States are frozen and cannot be used for activities. Therefore, the U.S. government agreed to unfreeze my funds in the U.S., to put it bluntly, because he wants to get bristles from the CCP. At that time, bristles were exported to the United States in exchange for the important materials needed by our country. This is a fair deal where both sides get what they want.Like "Unforgettable 1950", it was made by the war, not a "miracle". After the freeze was lifted, I remitted all the money back to China, and sent my children in Hong Kong back to Beijing to go to school, so that they could experience for themselves how a new socialist China was built.Later, relevant departments came to ask me about the process of unfreezing funds in the United States. I wrote a letter, reporting my work in Hong Kong and the United States, and explaining the process of my contacts with Premier Zhou, especially Premier Zhou’s care for me. with trust. With deep gratitude, I said in the letter: "Premier Zhou treats me as a national scholar, and I will repay him as a national scholar." In 1955, the Chinese government gradually shifted the focus of bristle export from Hong Kong to Beijing, and transferred me back to Beijing to serve as the manager of China Livestock Company and take charge of the business.I became a national cadre serving the people in New China, and I was no longer a capitalist. This is the result of the party's united front work and socialist transformation, and it is inseparable from Zhou Enlai's guidance and inspiration to me.
