Chapter 24 Chapter Twenty-Three

Shortly after five, Derek called Mason. "Paley," he said. "There is movement here." "Are you at the dock?" "yes." "what's the weather like?" "sunny." "Cold?" "It's not as cold as when it's foggy." "What's happening?" "The sheriff, the prosecutor, several officers and a diver came." "What are they doing?" "Nothing, just standing there waiting for the diver to come up... oh, he came up with something in his hand." "Can you see what it is?" Mason asked.

"Can't tell. He waved to the sheriff and prosecutor and headed for the shore." "Keep watching," Mason said. "Hang up the phone and keep telling me what's going on there." "Well, they're having a secret meeting right now," Derek said. "It was very quiet...the diver dived back into the water and could tell where he was by the bubbles coming out." "Don't you see at all what he found?" "no way." "Can't you see anything?" "can not see." "Do you think it's a purse?"

"Potentially, he came out where the purse was... wait a minute, Paley, he's back with two things. They're all obviously happy, and the prosecutor is patting the diver on the back." Mason said, "Paul, take off your work clothes and go to dinner! You can get off work."
