Chapter 33 The Eighth Route Army Headquarters reported the results of the Hundred Regiments Battle

In order to invigorate the spirit of the people of the whole country and stimulate the anti-Japanese fighting spirit, on December 10, 1940, the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army notified the whole country of the achievements of the Hundred Regiments War, thus dispelling the lie of the Eighth Route Army "swimming without fighting" spread by the Kuomintang. The heroic Hundred Regiments Campaign started on August 20th and ended on December 5th, fighting continuously for a full three months and fifteen days. This big battle is a big battle in which the main force of the North China Eighth Route Army and the Death Squad, under the unified order of the headquarters, are actively and independently attacking the enemy and puppets along various traffic lines and in various strongholds in the vast area of North China.

According to the predetermined steps of the original battle plan and the development of the war, the Hundred Regiments War can be divided into the following three different operational stages. In the first stage, from the outbreak of the war at 20:00 on August 20 to September 10, the scheduled combat missions for the first month will be completed within 20 days. The central task of this phase of the operation is the general traffic destruction battle, destroying and cutting off all the enemy's traffic in North China, smashing the enemy's attempt to attack Kunming, Chongqing, and Xi'an at that time, and the main purpose of the operation is to destroy Zhengtai Road. The second phase began on September 20 and ended in late October. The central task of this stage of operations is to continue to expand the effect of the first stage and continue to break through the communication lines, while the focus is on annihilating the enemy strongholds on both sides of the communication lines and penetrating into our base areas. , the Battle of Lailing in the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region, the Battle of the North and South Ningwu Section of Tongpu Road in Northwest Shanxi, the Battle of Heren in Central Hebei, and the Battle of Deshi Road and Hanji Road in Southern Hebei. The third phase began on October 6 and ended on December 5. Due to our victories in the first and second phases, we dealt a severe blow to the enemy's attempt to attack Chongqing, Kunming, and Xi'an at that time, and made the hostile "fortressism" and "cage policy" lose confidence.

Under the tremendous changes in the international situation, the enemy had to temporarily abandon its attacks on Kunming, Chongqing, and Xi'an in order to prepare for the south, and turned to our base areas in North China to carry out a large-scale "mopping up" concurrently. The huge conspiracy to induce surrender lured pro-Japanese and anti-communist factions to launch a civil war and achieve surrender in order to achieve their goal of resolving the "China Incident" and allowing them to advance southward. Therefore, anti-"mopping up" has become the central task of our third phase of operations. However, due to the different specific conditions in different regions, the initiation and end times of the anti-"sweeping" are also different, including the one, two, and three anti-"sweeping" in the southeast and northern regions of Shanxi from October 6 to November 12. , Anti-mopping up in Pingxi District from October 10th to October 28th, anti-mopping up in Northwest Shanxi from October 27th to early November, anti-mopping up in Yanmen District from November 7th to the middle of the same month The Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region launched a series of anti-sweeps from late November to December 5th, the Taiyue District launched an anti-sweep from November 18th to the end of the same month, and the Tainan District began an anti-sweep on December 1st. "Battle, as well as the continued attack on Xiangdeshi Road, Cangshi Road, and Hanji Road, and the repeated partial anti-"mopping up" of Daqingshan in central Hebei and southern Hebei.

Since the launch of the second phase of the Hundred Regiments War, our Eighth Route Army in Sulu, Anhui, and Henan have also carried out active activities against current enemies in order to cooperate with the Hundred Regiments War. Combat battles, the battle for the destruction of the Jinan-Xuzhou section, the battle for the destruction of enemy strongholds in the south of Shandong and the northwest of Shandong, the battle for the destruction of the enemy's strongholds by our Shandong column on Jiaoji Road, the battle for the destruction of enemy strongholds in Jiaodong and Jiaobei, and the battle for the destruction of enemy strongholds by our second column in Hebei and Henan Frontier raids on enemy strongholds and anti-"mopping up" operations, the third, fourth, and fifth columns of the third, fourth, and fifth columns broke out on Jinpu Road south of Xuzhou. The assault battle in the eastern section of Longhai, and the battle to eradicate enemy strongholds along the Huaihe Canal.

The battle area of the Hundred Regiments War includes the entire territory of Jicha, most of the areas in Shanxi and Sui, and the area south of Rehe.In terms of traffic lines, it includes Pinghan Road north of Zhangde, Jinpu Road north of Dezhou, the whole line of Tongpu Zhengtai north of Linfen, the east section of Pingsui Road Guisui, the whole line of Beining, the whole line of Pinggu, Cangshi Road, the whole line of Deshi Road, Handan Liaocheng section of Hanji Road, and all highway lines. If we add the combat areas of the coordinating troops, we will also include the entire territory of Lu Province, the vast areas of eastern Anhui, eastern Henan, and northern Jiangsu, the entire Jinpu and Jiaoji lines, the eastern section of the Longhai Road east of Kaifeng, and all of these areas. highways etc.

During the entire three months and fifteen days, almost four-fifths of all my participating regiments were surrounded by tense battles almost all the time; the land was barren and poor, traffic was blocked, and all supplies were extremely difficult. A small number of troops did not have enough food for several days, and many troops did not rest for ten days. One can imagine the hardships. But the soldiers of the whole army can unite as one, display the highest fighting enthusiasm, overcome all difficulties, and fight the enemy bravely with the spirit of persistent efforts, striving to achieve the predetermined goal of the war.During the entire war, in addition to cooperating with the combat troops, a total of 1,824 battles were fought. Although our army paid a relatively high price, many excellent Eighth Route Army death squad commanders, political workers, combatants, and many excellent Members of the Communist Party of China and members of the Sacrifice League have shed their last drop of blood, but the results I have obtained are also extremely amazing.

An unprecedented feat!An unprecedented feat of guerrilla warfare in the enemy's rear! The process of the Hundred Regiments War took place at a time when the international situation was undergoing major changes, my country’s War of Resistance was entering unprecedented difficulties, the domestic crisis of surrender, compromise, and split, and anti-Communist countercurrents were on the rise. The poisonous plan exposed the grimaces of all the capitulators and compromisers, inspired the broad masses of anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians, strengthened their confidence in the victory of the War of Resistance, and won the turn for the better. Therefore, the significance of the Hundred Regiments War is not only to achieve a great military victory, but also to achieve a great political victory. It is the most glorious page in the history of the Anti-Japanese War!
