Chapter 30 Leaders meet in Hongdu

After the Battle of Shancheng Castle, Zhu De, Zhang Guotao, and Zhou Enlai led the organs directly under the headquarters and the senior scientists of the Red Army University of the Fourth Front Army to go to Zhidan, Kyoto. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China attached great importance to the arrival of Zhu De and Zhang Guotao. On November 30, cloudy clouds merged and dust was flying. After breakfast, the central authorities, members of the Red University, and the guards lined up to wait at the north gate of Zhidan City.Because everyone's clothes were thin and shivering in the cold wind, they had to stamp their feet and rub their hands on the spot. After a while, the messenger sent word that Commander Zhu and Political Commissar Zhang would not arrive until two or three o'clock in the afternoon, and everyone regrouped and returned to Zhidan City. After noon, the sky cleared and warmed up, so we went to the north gate to meet again.

On the trees, walls, and kiln houses outside the north gate, red welcome slogans were pasted everywhere, and a temporary speech platform was also arranged. In particular, the members of the Red University and comrades from government agencies were extremely excited, lined up neatly, held up red flags, and specially organized a gong and drum team.Surrounded by people who had been notified to come from all directions, they stood in a black, joyous, three-mile-long welcome line, lining up from the north of the city to the foot of the Paolou Mountain where the central authorities were stationed.

Tong Xiaopeng, the confidential secretary of the Military Commission at the time, wrote in his diary: "Bosses Zhu and Zhang are entering Beijing today. Everyone has very warm hopes for their arrival soon. Want to see how thin their faces have been after working hard in the Tibetan area for more than a year? Want to go early Seeing that the leaders of the Chinese revolution are fat or thin, tall or short? I especially hope that they will come sooner, so that the command of the party and the Red Army will be more unified and united. They will be able to concentrate more, strive for great victories, and carry out new campaigns. The situation is more assured!"

At around 3 p.m., dust flew up in the distance, and dozens of horses came running to report that the "Two Presidents" were coming soon. When everyone was looking around, a team appeared at the bend of the mountain. There were thousands of people, and they quickened their pace, getting closer and closer.Although their clothes were old and their bodies were thin, their faces were full of excitement and joy. The "Two Presidents" walked in front of the team and kept waving to everyone. The crowd cheered and jumped for joy.In an instant, gongs, drums and big cymbals sounded the rhythm of welcome warmly, and dozens of red flags were waving heartily in the hands of the soldiers.

Zhang Wentian, Mao Zedong, Bogu and other central leaders in Kyoto stepped forward with joyful faces and warmly shook hands, hugged and greeted the "two presidents".Slogans from the crowd came one after another, resounding like thunder, "Welcome to the Commander-in-Chief and the Chief Political Commissar", "Long live the Red Army", "Stop the civil war and unite to resist Japan".People applauded enthusiastically, expressing their most heartfelt feelings to the "two presidents" and comrades-in-arms. Zhang Guotao wrote in "My Memories": "Lin Biao, the headmaster of the Red Army School in Baoan (Zhidan), led a team of students to the outskirts to welcome us. We greeted each other at the front of the line. On a pre-arranged podium, we all gave speeches and congratulated each other. My speech emphasized foreign resistance against Japan and internal unity.”

Mao Zedong stepped onto the temporary speech platform and said: The Fourth Front Army has endured more hardships and climbed more mountains this year. The road to revolution is not without any twists and turns! The Red Fourth Front Army is also an army led by the Party. In the future, the Central Committee will send as many comrades as possible to work, unite with you, and make progress together.Zhu De and Bogu also stepped onto the stage and delivered speeches.Afterwards, the leaders of the central government walked among the crowds who lined the aisle to welcome them, and headed for the city together.

December 1st was another cloudy day with strong north wind. After breakfast, members of the Red University and various agencies went outside the city again, singing songs and shouting slogans, and ushered in the troops directly under the headquarters of the Fourth Front Army.As soon as we met, everyone was very cordial, shaking hands and greeting each other. Tong Xiaopeng wrote in his diary: December 2, today is the team directly under the headquarters, about several hundred people.Hearing them talk about the hardships in the Tibetan area really made us stick out our tongues, recalling that last year we thought the most difficult life in the Tibetan area was less than one-tenth of theirs!Especially the admirable and admirable Five Armies, who ate bark and weeds for several months, made people feel infinite emotions after hearing it.At the same time, it also talked about some comrades being wronged and framed and many sad things, I really want to cry!I really don't know how to account for the losses caused by the opportunists to the revolution?Damn you bastard!

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China welcomed the grand opening of the "Two General Assembly" on December 6, which was a Sunday. After noon, thousands of people gathered in the square in front of the Dragon King Temple Theater Building. The theater building is the rostrum, with dozens of red flags planted and banners hung. Students from the Red Army University of the First Red Army sang first, followed by students from the Red Army University of the Fourth Red Army. The atmosphere was cheerful and enthusiastic. When the leaders of the Central Committee, Zhu De, and Zhang Guotao took to the stage, majestic slogans sounded from the crowd: "Long live the Red Army", "Unite to fight against Japan, and regain the rivers and mountains".After the welcome meeting began, Zhang Wentian, Zhu De, Zhang Guotao, Zhou Enlai, Bo Gu, and Mao Zedong made speeches successively. Especially the speech of Commander-in-Chief Zhu De made the Red Army soldiers and government comrades extremely excited, and there was bursts of applause at the venue.

On December 8, 1936, the "Red China" newspaper published an article titled "Welcome the leader of the Red Army" on the headlines of a page: We greeted our Commander-in-Chief Zhu De and General Political Commissar Zhang with the greatest enthusiasm and cheers. The masses of the entire Soviet area and the anti-Japanese people all over China were cheering and celebrating! This is the victory of the Party Central Committee and a victory that marks a new page in the history of Chinese revolution. We can imagine how the enemy, the Japanese bandits and traitors, was flustered, dreaming of destroying our unity, exhausting pains and tricks, and using all conceivable despicable means.Today, the three major Red Army forces are united like iron. The three major Red Army forces are moving in unison under one will and one commander. Any plot to undermine the unity of the Red Army will not be effective at all. We have won, and we are in the center Meet our leader beneath the route of victory.

The people of Suiyuan are watching us in great pain, and the people of the whole country are watching every step we take after welcoming the revolutionary leader with boundless eagerness. We should all work hard to make the iron unity even more like steel. The same is consolidated and closely connected, learning from each other stepping up, uniting and loving each other, and fighting to the end to drive out the Japanese invaders and fight for the democratic republic. Let the flame of joy and excitement that ignites higher in our hearts burn forever.Among the leaders who welcome us, let us all make up our minds to add horsepower to all work and speed to all careers, so that we will always be as excited as we were when we saw Commander-in-Chief Zhu and Political Commissar Zhang today.

We believe that our leaders want us to.At the same time, keep in mind: the anti-Japanese people all over the country hope for us so much! Welcome to Commander-in-Chief Zhu and Political Commissar Zhang who worked hard to fight against Japan! All commanders and fighters of the First, Second, and Fourth Fronts unite closely! Long live the victory of the party central line!Long live the liberation of the Chinese nation! The news of the second edition of this issue of "Red China" newspaper: Published the title "Welcome to Zhu Zhang's Grand Party" On December 6, a meeting was held in Zhidan City to welcome Commander-in-Chief Zhu and Political Commissar Zhang. At 2 o'clock in the afternoon, more than 3,000 people had lined up at the venue.Red University students, all wearing blue-gray military uniforms, are neatly arranged in the center, and staff from various agencies are surrounded on both sides like thick walls. At about 2:30, Commander-in-Chief Zhu and Political Commissar Zhang walked to the meeting place, and the whole meeting place immediately stood at attention in silence to pay tribute to our leader. In the precepts, Commander-in-Chief Zhu pointed out: A good Communist Party member should support the central line and the interests of the masses, and also shoulder the current historical tasks. Everyone must study hard.Later, General Political Commissar Zhang, Chairman Mao, and Chairman Bogu all gave precepts one after another, and they all focused on explaining the need for learning. The People's Drama Club performed group ballroom dancing, tennis dancing, live reports (dramas) of the first, second and fourth front armies meeting, and so on.Everyone was in high spirits, and everyone sang at the interval of each scene. Some sang foreign songs, some sang folk songs and local tunes, and even the American comrade Ma Haide came to sing American songs. When the meeting ended, everyone said in unison: "I will never forget today." On December 7, according to the decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the central government of the Chinese Soviet ordered to expand the organization of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission, with 23 members including Mao Zedong as members; seven members including Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai, Zhang Guotao, Peng Dehuai, Ren Bishi, and He Long formed the Central Revolutionary Revolutionary Committee. The Presidium of the Military Commission has Mao Zedong as the chairman, Zhou Enlai and Zhang Guotao as the vice-chairmen; Zhu De as the commander-in-chief of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and Zhang Guotao as the general political commissar. At the same time, Liu Bocheng was appointed as the chief of the general staff, Ye Jianying was appointed as the deputy chief of the general staff; Wang Jiaxiang was appointed as the director of the General Political Department, and Yang Shangkun was appointed as the deputy director. At this point, a new leadership group of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission was born in Zhidan, Kyoto. The three front armies accepted the unified leadership of the Military Commission, bid farewell to the unhappiness that had occurred, and will unite to start a new struggle. Zhu De and Zhang Guotao, who came to Zhidan in Kyoto, had very different mentalities.Zhu De was very optimistic, and he naturally blended into the new environment in Kyoto. On the second day of the welcome meeting, he went to the Red Army University with his books to attend lectures, discussed issues enthusiastically with his classmates, and played basketball with them. Although he was 50 years old Despite his age, he has a youthful vigor, winning applause from the audience on the sidelines of the court. Zhang Guotao's mood was very complicated. He wrote in "My Memories": ... Baoan is the most desolate county I have seen. Its scale is smaller than a market town in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. After years of natural and man-made disasters, most of the houses have collapsed. Immediately after we came, there were not enough houses for distribution; Zhu De and I were allotted a cave dwelling on the side of the mountain, and lived next to Mao Zedong, Zhang Wentian, Qin Bangxian (Bogu), Wang Jiaxiang, Lin Boqu and others. In front of these cave dwellings, there used to be a street composed of shops and houses, but there were no houses left at that time.On top of the ruins, all kinds of vegetables have been planted. The personnel of the general headquarters can only live in similar institutions according to the nature of their work units. The students from the Red Army School we brought were merged into the Red Army School presided over by Lin Biao. (Zhang Wentian) once said to me that these matters (cooperating with Zhang Xueliang to resist Japan) were handled by two comrades, Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai. Let him do it!" Zhang Wentian said these words, there may be many meanings, one of which may be to imply that I don't want to interfere with the affairs of "Old Mao". ... Of course my mood is not happy, and others don't pay much attention to it.In the cave where Mao Zedong lived, there were talks every day, and everyone avoided talking about the past. Zhidan, who had always been calm, was bombed by Kuomintang planes on December 9.Usually the planes came just for reconnaissance, but this day two planes came, circling and throwing bombs, most of which landed on the mountain. After repeated rumbling explosions, the sky was full of yellow dust, and one bomb fell on the Red Army in Liushuping. The residence of the second department of the university, the captain of the second team unfortunately died. Then the plane flew towards Zhidan City, and a bomb dropped on the Trade Bureau. The deafening explosion broke all the window paper in the city. No one thought that three days later, the Kuomintang generals Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng launched the Xi'an Incident in Xi'an that shocked the world.
