Chapter 12 Attack "Tuweizi"

After the Central Red Army fought the "Tail Cutting" campaign, the local people strongly demanded that Baoliang Village in Wuqi Town be destroyed to eliminate harm for the people.Baoliang stockade is located on the southwest mountain where Sandaochuan and Luohe Rivers meet. It is a fort built by Zhang Tingzhi, a reactionary militia group, who forced farmers to build it. It covers an area of nearly 10 mu and has a water prison.Usually, the regiment bandit took advantage of the dangerous terrain and had two mortars and many long guns to commit crimes, exploit farmers, seize women, and kill single cadres and the masses. The surrounding people hated them to the bone.

Before the arrival of the Central Red Army, the regiment leader Zhang Tingzhi led most of the bandits to Anbian, leaving his uncles Zhang Liu and Zhang Qi to lead more than a hundred people to defend Baoliang stockade. , plan to send a team to destroy it" telegram instructed that the Chief of Staff of Zuoquan sent a guard company carrying a heavy machine gun to propagandize the policy to the reactionary militia in Baoliang Village, striving to win without a fight. The Central Red Army shouted to them: "The Red Army welcomes you to surrender and revolt and join the revolutionary ranks. You can only make a decision tonight." The militia didn't know it was the Central Red Army, but thought it was another guerrilla, and even shot at the guard company.A Red Army soldier cursed angrily: "His grandma's fart, look at what kind of guns you are, and what kind of guns are we!" His head was retracted into the wall of the village.

Early the next morning, Chief of Staff Zuo Quan ordered the guard company and engineer company to attack Baoliang stockade. When the team came down the mountain with mortars and prepared to attack the village, the local people came to report that at 2 a.m., Zhang Qi and the bandits fled to Anbian with lanterns and torches. It turned out that the enemy, frightened by the might of the Red Army, had already abandoned the stronghold and fled overnight.Leopard Liang stockade can be conquered without attacking. The soldiers of the Red Army and the masses opened the gate of the village, and carried the more than 200,000 kilograms of grain stored in the village down the mountain on the backs of donkeys and people. Except for the Red Army's rations, the rest were distributed to the local people. The reactionary forces were expelled, and the masses applauded, carrying pigs, sheep, and chickens, and came to express their condolences.

Danbazhai was built on the rocky hillside of Shiwa Zhuangnao on the banks of the Luo River, across the river from the market of Danba Town, where one can have a panoramic view of the north-south situation of the Luohe River and control the main roads of Fanchuan in the west.During the Song Dynasty, dozens of craftsmen dug 24 granaries with a width of two feet and a depth of three feet on the stone rock of Shiwazhuang. .Later, people called the town Shiba, and it was gradually written as Danba, which is still used today. In 1916, Cao Junzhang, a local tycoon, founded Danba Shanzhai, which has been built several times and has a certain scale.According to the situation of the mountain, the wall of the village is built with high stones, leaving the entrance to the village. The north and south are cliffs, and the mountains are connected to the west.According to Hao Haiyun, an 83-year-old man from Shiwazhuang, the highest point of the wall is three feet, and the lowest point is two feet.At that time, soldiers and bandits were like hairs, and the people were struggling to survive. In order to protect the lives and properties of his family and relatives, Cao Junzhang relied on his wealth to support soldiers and develop militias, which played a role in ensuring local safety.Later, due to various reasons, he gradually worked for the reactionary government, joined hands with the Kuomintang troops stationed in Longdong and the county, dominated one side, suppressed the revolution, and killed many Soviet cadres and Red Army soldiers.

In order to eliminate the bandits in Danba Village, the guerrillas attacked the village twice. In July 1934, Liu Yuesan led the Heshui guerrilla detachment to launch a surprise attack on a rainy night and captured Dan Bazhai. Cao Junzhang and his cronies escaped in chaos. A piece of silver dollar and some large and small ingots were used, and more than 70 mules, horses and supplies of the local tyrant were seized.Soon, Cao Junzhang mobilized the Kuomintang troops to counterattack, and the guerrillas withdrew when the enemy was strong and we were weak, and did not have time to demolish the stockade.

In July 1935, Yongning Village was liberated, and the Kuomintang regiment stationed in Baoan City fled to the three sides, while Cao Junzhang was still stubborn in Danba Village.Liu Jingfan led more than 600 soldiers to surround Danba Village. Soldiers from all walks of life attacked Danba Village with soaked felts. Cao Junzhang relied on the dangerous terrain and stubbornly defended it. When the Central Red Army left Wuqi Town, the Chi'an County Work Committee sent someone to report to Peng Dehuai the situation of Danbazhai's defense of the enemy and the attack of the guerrillas.Peng Dehuai immediately agreed to send the Red Army and the guerrillas to fight Dan Bazhai together, and transferred a squadron of about 400 people to connect with Ma Fuji, the commander-in-chief of the Chi'an guerrillas. After carefully observing the dangerous terrain of Danbazhai, everyone studied together and concluded that Danbazhai is easy to defend and difficult to attack. Moreover, there are more than 50 families and more than 200 people in Danbazhaizi. The method of negotiating first to persuade them to surrender is adopted. If the persuasion fails, Use force to attack again.

The representatives who went to the negotiation included: Yuan Wanxiang, the representative of the Central Red Army, the chairman of the county government, Ma Fuji, the commander-in-chief of the guerrillas, Wang Ronggui, the captain of the county security team, Ma Qingshan, the captain of the third detachment, and others. They went to Danba Village together, and negotiated with the regiment leader Cao Junzhang, talking about the Red Army policy and the preferential treatment after surrender. At dawn the next day, the squadron of the Central Red Army was in charge of the main attack, the second guerrilla detachment covered Shizuizi Mountain, the third detachment cooperated in the mountain behind Danbazhaizi, the guard company of Gaolaozhuang was on guard in Danba Town, and the guard company of Zhiliang District rushed to the fore. He climbed the ladder and tied 6 stretchers. After the attack was launched, the Central Red Army set up a machine gun and fired at the village. The bullets hit the stones of the village wall and a cloud of white smoke rose, scaring the enemy from showing their faces.A platoon of the Central Red Army attacked under the wall of the village, but was desperately resisted by bandit soldiers in the village. After more than an hour of fierce fighting, four soldiers died, many were injured, and had to withdraw from the battle.

The Soviet government and the masses of Chi'an County demanded to attack Danba village again and pull out this vicious reactionary militia.Others suggested bombardment. The Central Red Army considered that it would hurt the people in the village. It was not appropriate to attack Dan Bazhai forcefully, but to besiege it. It would not take long for the village to be liberated naturally.Subsequently, the Central Red Army Squadron left for Xiasiwan.Although the Dan Bazhai was not opened this time, it was a great shock to the regiment bandits, and soon many regiments escaped from the village and surrendered to the guerrillas.

This Danba Village, occupied by Cao Junzhang, stubbornly resisted the Soviet regime.Later, in his article "The Situation after the Victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan and Our Policy", Mao Zedong called Danbazhaizi "Tuweizi": "There is a place where the landowners and gentry lived forty or fifty miles away from Bao'an. At that time, the seat of the Party Central Committee was in Bao’an, so the political influence was huge, but the counter-revolutionaries in that dirt enclosure refused to surrender. We couldn’t do it either in the south or in the north. Later, when we got the broom inside to sweep, he said : 'Ah! I'm quitting.' Everything in the world is like this. The clock won't ring until it strikes. The table won't leave until it's moved.”
