Chapter 151 "Lovest Person" Becomes "Most Hateful Person"

Anti-Rightists 叶永烈 1652Words 2018-03-14
Mr. Peng Long wrote in a letter dated February 15, 1998: The anti-rightist struggle that shocked China and the world 40 years ago pushed me, a 24-year-old "cutest person", into the ranks of "most hateful people", and then pushed me into a rough life full of humiliation and suffering As soon as he was on the road to nowhere, he knocked me down to the ground with a stick. When I came to my senses, everything was over for me, and I was wronged by the extreme left as an anti-party rightist. I am a soldier, carrying my own head in exile. In the 20 years of dealing with the public security organs, I still don't know what crime I have committed. After the public security organs arrested me and put me in prison, the prison officials upgraded me from a rightist to a counter-revolutionary. I asked myself what crime was I committing?During the interrogation with many soldiers and police officers, the prison officials asked me again what crime I had committed.I had no choice but to say something to the prison: "First, I didn't steal, second, I didn't rob, and third, I didn't join the Kuomintang. I just raised a work suggestion to the leader. The leftists said I was an anti-Party rightist and a counter-revolutionary."

Mr. Yang Chongye was originally a reporter for Shanghai Wen Wei Po.In 1957, "Wen Wei Po" was a "hardest-hit household". On June 23, 1996, Mr. Yang Chongye wrote to the author from Beijing: During the anti-rightist struggle, I was a reporter at the Beijing office of Wen Wei Po, and I was the first to bear the brunt. The People's Daily published a special article criticizing me (not to mention Wen Wei Po), and Xinhua News Agency published a draft.Later, he was upgraded to an active counter-revolutionary and sentenced to 15 years in prison, which is also rare in the press (Wen Wei Po was the key target of criticism, and many journalists were sentenced to prison and reform through labor, but I was the only one sentenced to 15 years in prison).Fifteen years in prison, not missing a single day. After serving his sentence, he was sent back to his hometown to continue reforming as a fourth-category element.By 1978, I had been deprived of political rights for five years. The Beijing Intermediate Court notified the local government to restore my citizenship rights. The local police station disagreed. I appealed to the Shenyang Provincial Public Security Bureau, and the answer was that you are now under the control of the public security department. It seems that at that time, the court and the public security department were treated in two different systems, so I wore the hat of the four types of elements until the end of 1979, when I officially announced "correction".

The crime I was sentenced to at the beginning was "anti-Soviet" (because in 1946, as a special correspondent of Wen Wei Po, I saw and heard about the withdrawal of machinery from Anshan Iron and Steel and other places by the Soviet army in the Northeast in 1946, and the violation of discipline by the Soviet army. in the editorial department), "oppose the transformation of intellectuals", "oppose the dictatorship of the proletariat" (I once made comments on the procedure of the court's trial work), etc. Right, the court reversed my criminal sentence, got my job back, and my reputation restored.

Letter from Mr. Xu Hanchu dated September 10, 1996: I am sixty-five years old, a graduate of Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1952, and a survivor of the Anti-Rightist Movement in 1957.After the age of sixty, I want to relax and want to recall how this life has come.Seeing the report that Ye Yonglie has recently published a long new work "Historical Elegy-The History of the Anti-Rightists", I can't wait to have a look. However, I have visited many bookstores and newsstands in Shanghai, but I have never seen this book... I have five brothers and sisters. Except for my elder sister who did not go to university and became a primary school teacher, the other four, two are in Jiaotong University, one is in Peking University, and one is in Shanghai Second Medical College. None of them survived in 1957, which shows the anti-rightist movement. The impact on my family is so profound that it's no wonder I care so much.

No surprises. There are actually "rightists" who are "elected"!This is not a fairy tale, but a personal experience written by Mr. Zhang You, a reader in Harbin, who sent me a personal experience on October 1, 1997, in which he wrote such a true story: My deepest memory is a story about electing a rightist: There was a small unit with eight cadres. After the anti-rightist struggle began, the higher-level party committee assigned the unit the task of arresting a rightist. The leaders of this unit repeatedly mobilized to speak out, and none of the eight cadres spoke to express opinions, and they couldn't single out rightist speeches or catch rightists.

But the superiors refused to agree, and if they could not catch the rightists, they had to question the leaders of the unit. The leader was so anxious that he was restless, and finally came up with a solution... He openly explained to everyone that if the task of arresting a rightist is given by the superior, it must be completed even if it is completed, and it must be completed if it is not completed. We have to ask everyone to democratically elect a rightist! The method is to write a ballot and a name for each person back to back, and whoever gets the most votes will be announced in public as the rightist.

In this way, after voting, a man named Shen Dezhang was selected. Why did most people choose this person named Shen?Is it because of his poor work performance or poor relations with the masses?neither.Because no matter what bad things happened in people's minds in those days, the highest priority was class status.Among the eight cadres, only the family surnamed Shen came from a "rich peasant".Of course, this unfortunate thing has to be shared with him. This rightist deserves to be right or not, because he is "elected by the people" and "recognized", and the reason is that his class nature is anti-party and anti-socialist, so he has nothing to say, nothing to complain about, I can only blame myself for casting the wrong mother.

After Shen Dezhang put on the hat of a rightist, he was wronged and became ill. After several years of supervision and reform, he passed away.
