Chapter 50 "The workers have spoken"!

Anti-Rightists 叶永烈 1853Words 2018-03-14
Under Mao Zedong's order, the first echelon of counterattacking the rightists was the workers, who took the lead in dispatching. This is exactly the same as the practice of sending "workers' Mao Zedong Thought Propaganda Team" to the superstructure during the "Cultural Revolution". On June 8, 1957, the "People's Daily" published an editorial "Why is this?" "At the same time, the report was distributed with a headline: "Workers of Shijingshan Iron and Steel Plant Oppose the Fallacy of Leaving Socialism and Denounce the Despicable Means of Anonymous Intimidation"

The report said: "Newspapers published the news that Lu Yuwen had received a threatening letter, which aroused the anger of the workers at the Shijingshan Iron and Steel Plant. … "Zhao Jingwen, a worker in the coking department, said that the news that Lu Yuwen received a threatening letter was published in the newspaper. I think this just shows the need to eliminate counter-revolutionaries. When Lu Yuwen said that he supported socialism, someone wrote him a threatening letter; we We’ve been suppressing counterrevolutionaries for so long, and there are still people who dare to do this, if we didn’t suppress counterrevolutionaries in the past, would it be worth it?”

Immediately afterwards, "People's Daily" published a report on June 9: "Beijing National Cotton No. 2 Factory Workers Discussions Do Not Allow Anti-Socialist Speeches to Rise." This report wrote a speech by Xiang Suyun, the deputy director of the spinning workshop of the factory and Xiang Ying's daughter: "She said that what annoyed me the most was that during the rectification movement, someone wrote an anonymous threatening letter, threatening Mr. Lu Yuwen, not allowing him to uphold the views of socialism, saying that he was 'a minion for a tiger', or that he would be spared. My father Xiang Ying is Those who sacrificed for socialism, their blood was not in vain, their efforts have borne fruit, and the people will defend the fruits of victory."

On June 10, the "People's Daily" published an editorial on the front page: "The workers have spoken." The editorial said: "In the past two days, many employees in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Anshan and other places have held symposiums, angrily condemning the anti-communist and anti-socialist remarks of a very small number of rightists. The public opinion of the working class is attracting people from all over the country. The people are paying more and more attention.  … "Who is more able to identify and adopt a firm and clear attitude towards the current anti-socialist arguments? This firm stand of the working class is also of great educational significance to intellectuals across the country. The same Why do some college students and some university professors take one view and the workers another? A certain kind of anarchist zealotry, which can stir up a few intellectuals for a while, is completely isolated among the workers and working people. The fact that the zeal of the working class is manifested not only in the heroic labor of construction, but also in the resolute struggle against anti-socialist rhetoric proves not only that our country must be led by the working class, but that the working class has sufficient His consciousness and determination are enough to lead our country."

On this day, the People's Daily published: "Forty-four old workers in Shanghai made a generous statement at the symposium. Today's world is the world of the people. I hope those who don't know clearly can open their eyes and see clearly." Although the "People's Daily" published numerous reports of workers attacking the rightists, Mao Zedong was not satisfied. Mao Zedong read the "Beijing Daily" of June 12, 1957, and quite appreciated the critical articles on the second edition.Mao Zedong, who was used to working all night, wrote a paragraph in this newspaper to his secretary Hu Qiaomu in the early morning of the 13th:

After finishing writing, Mao Zedong thought about it for a while, and wrote Hu Qiaomu another passage, which was also written in that newspaper: In this short instruction with a total of about 200 characters, Mao Zedong made three clerical mistakes: he wrote "People's Daily" as "People's Daily", another place wrote "People's Daily", and another place "Treatment", and wrote more A "treat".This shows that Mao Zedong was at the busiest time of work. The "How to Treat Criticism" mentioned in Mao Zedong's instructions was a copy of an editorial written by the "People's Daily", which was sent to Mao Zedong for review, and Mao Zedong himself changed the title to "Treat Well-Intentioned Criticism Correctly".Although Mao Zedong was very dissatisfied with this editorial, thinking that "the whole article is a stereotype", but since it was about to appear in the newspaper that day, there was no time to revise it, so it was reproduced in the "People's Daily" on the 13th.

At workers' symposiums in various places, workers generally condemned the act of writing anonymous letters to Lu Yuwen, which shows that Mao Zedong chose the "anonymous letter incident" as a breakthrough to fight back against the rightists, and he was very discerning.Because of such things, it is easy to arouse public outrage. On June 11, "People's Daily" published another report, disclosing new developments in the "anonymous letter incident": At the symposium for non-Party people in the State Council held the day before, Lu Yuwen announced that he had received four more anonymous letters just after he received the last anonymous letter.

Unfortunately, this time, he did not disclose the contents of the anonymous letter. This time, it was Li Zhonggong, the counselor of the State Council who said he had received an anonymous letter last time, saying that the anonymous letter scolded him for being "evil against the party."Meet means to meet. Just when Li Zhonggong was talking about the anonymous letter, Xi Zhongxun, Secretary General of the State Council, interjected that he had also received the anonymous letter! He said the anonymous letter warned him to "watch out anytime, anywhere, as a family." However, at this symposium for non-Party people in the State Council, there was a small episode:

Wan Meizi, Counselor of the State Council, made a speech, criticizing Ge Peiqi for "seriously anti-socialist sentiment."However, he thought that Chu Anping's "party world" was just "'innovation is the highest', and the words are not shocking and endless", and "subjectively, it is not necessarily to oppose the party's leadership". Wan Meizi also said that Chen Mingshu and Tan Tiwu's speeches were "loyal" to the party and "supporting the party". As soon as Wan Meizi said a word, everyone was shocked.Because the drums of the anti-rightists are already beating loudly, yet there are still such foolish people saying such foolish words.

Wan Meizi's words were immediately mobilized and attacked. Wan Meizi finally stated that he "completely agrees with" people's criticisms of him in theory, but still insisted on his "loyalty" to the party. "
