Chapter 3 1. Deciphering the history of the Chinese Communist Party and bringing out a century-old legend

It was approved by Yang Shangkun, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Huang Hua, former foreign minister. From April to June 1984, the famous American journalist and writer Harrison Salisbury conducted interviews along the route of the Long March, and was allowed to use various material resources, archives and historical materials at will. Harrison Salisbury retraced the Red Army’s Long March, and interviewed Yang Shangkun, Hu Yaobang, Nie Rongzhen, Zhang Aiping, Kang Keqing, Chen Pixian, Wu Xiuquan and other senior Red Army generals, important party figures, widows, and archivists and historians, and many, many survivors of the Long March.

In October 1985, Harrison Salisbury published the book "The Long March - An Unheard Story". In this book, one can find such a narrative: In February 1935, the Central Soviet Area was completely lost. The Central Branch of the Communist Party of China, the Central Government Office, the Central Military Region, and the 24th Red Army Division were all surrounded by the Kuomintang troops in this small area in the south of Yudu. In late February, the Red Army broke through nine routes.Qu Qiubai, He Shuheng, He Chang, Li Cailian, Mao Zetan, Gu Bai, Liu Bojian... A large number of senior party cadres died heroically in the breakout, and some of them are missing. The list of the dead is the who's who of the revolutionary movement. ...Li Cailian, the military leader of the Guangdong-Jiangxi Border Region, was also killed, but no one knows when and how...

After the Long March of the Red Army, among the 12 members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in the Central Soviet Area, only Li Cailian’s whereabouts were unknown. The search for Li Cailian has been carried out intermittently for decades. In 1995, a big surprise broke out in Xingguo County, Jiangxi Province: Li Cailian was from Jiaofu Village, Chayuan Township. His wife Chi Yuhua is still alive. Comrades in the field of history and journalism were overjoyed, as if they had discovered a gold mine, they flocked to Jiaofu Village without delay. There have been more than 20 central and local news organizations to interview.During the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's Long March, channels 1, 2 and 4 of CCTV broadcast special topics about Chi Yuhua many times, and many provincial TV stations and newspapers successively reported on it.

Facing Chi Yuhua, those well-informed reporters were deeply shocked.
