Chapter 2 Chapter One

Why is a mainlander working as a reporter in Hong Kong? Is being a reporter in Hong Kong the same thing as working in the Mainland? To put it mildly, before I came to this place, I was not a "younger" engaged in news. In 1996, in order to enter the world's media stage, China Central Television set up an investigative column with 45 minutes each. Telling a story, investigating a problem, and exposing a shady case has been hailed by the industry as "the aircraft carrier of China's in-depth TV reports". This is "News Investigation".Before coming to Hong Kong, I not only worked on this "aircraft carrier" for nearly 8 years, but also studied as a graduate student in "TV Art" for 6 years. I have done it all over again, and the qualifications and education are not shallow. However, when I arrived in Hong Kong, although I was still working as a reporter, all roads did not necessarily lead to Rome: strangeness, embarrassment, confusion, and helplessness. When I touched the topic of "how to be a reporter", I felt the first soreness in my stomach. Shui’er is wronged——“Being a reporter in Hong Kong is completely different from being in the mainland.” This feeling doesn’t take 8 months to taste. You go out once with the machine on your shoulders, and you can close the door and express your emotions—— —

I remember the first time I was "wronged" at the end of September 2004. When I first arrived, my eyes were darkened. A famous industry association in Hong Kong was going to hold a large reception to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and invited us to interview in advance.According to the habits of the mainland, journalists, especially CCTV reporters, will definitely be highly valued by the conference, and the organizers will take good care of you. However, when another cameraman and I arrived at the scene, there was no one waiting at the door, and no one prepared a warm smile for CCTV in advance. On the contrary, a self-adhesive label was stuck on the chest first Well, the word "reporter" was printed in English on the label, and then people and machines were placed in the reporter area directly behind the venue. This "reporter's area" is very temporary and simple. It is a wooden table about ten meters square, one foot high, with one side against the wall and three sides tied with ropes. The rope was as thick as a tug-of-war rope, and it was wrapped in pure red velvet cloth, which was both beautiful and decent. But the "red rope" is specially used to "circle" people, and journalists are not allowed to cross the "red rope" when they arrive at the venue.I didn’t understand at first, and it wasn’t because I was envious of the two large buffets of western food (which had nothing to do with the reporter) in the huge venue, but the table was too small, there were too many media, and I couldn’t open the machine, so I tried to come out. Looking for a place outside the table to set up a tripod.Unexpectedly, as soon as my legs stepped over the "red rope", the staff rushed over, spread their hands and pushed me inside: "Hurry up, please go back to the reporter area, you can't come out!" I was dumbfounded, Hong Kong How can this society... We are not here to eat, but you in advance... However, I can't stand to argue, the staff's hands have already made the "push" action a bit funny because it needs to be constantly accelerated. , My self-esteem is completely gone, I was photographed on the spot as a piece of broken charcoal, the dry sparks scattered, and I couldn't regain my dignity at all-it seems that the "red rope" of the Hong Kong Reporter's Station is really not in vain, it is Tang Seng The circle drawn on the ground for the "monkey grandson".The gesture of that staff member will remain with me for a long time to come.like what?Boom chicken? That's right, a chick ran outside without knowing it, and the owner was trying to drive it back to the chicken coop...

CCTV has no status in Hong Kong. Of course, the word "special" must be added to this "status" to be accurate. As for "special", whether I like it or not, admit it or not, it is what I have been used to in the Mainland. The mainland media, not to mention positive reports, is the "News Investigation" which specializes in criticism and exposes people's short stories all day long. We reporters still have a tiger's power. Now that the tiger has fallen to Pingyang, the majesty of the tiger is gone, and the cat's ability cannot be displayed.Even in ordinary days, such as making phone calls for interviews or meeting people for the first time, it is best not to say "I am from CCTV". First, many people do not understand. Second, the English abbreviation of CCTV It has another meaning in itself, which is "central television monitoring". I didn't know this meaning before I came to Hong Kong, but I was stunned when I arrived in Hong Kong.

During the SARS period in 2003, I used to visit relatives in Hong Kong to do a TV program "Into Amoy Garden". The secretary suddenly called and said that Mr. Dong still decided to decline, because since SARS, the chief executive has not accepted an exclusive interview with any domestic and overseas media in Hong Kong. "It is not good to accept CCTV alone now." It caused me too much excitement, because at that time I only had a "guest appearance" in Hong Kong by accident, but the situation was different after September 2004. I wanted to be here permanently, and I wanted to do news every day. Like the trouble of "red rope", you have to think about the reason, find a way to fight or adapt?

But then, my performance really didn't cheer me up, and I didn't "struggle".Why? Fighting alone, "tyrant" is futile, and no one in Hong Kong society cares about my "hypocrisy". CCTV has no special status in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong local media such as "Cable", "Wireless", "ATV", "Phoenix" and all overseas media, none of them have special privileges here.Everyone is treated equally, competing on the same starting line, without interfering with each other or being jealous of each other. For example, the Legislative Council of Hong Kong is a legislative and sanctioning body with the power of life and death in its hands. All media in Hong Kong can send people to listen to the content of each meeting at any time, but no one is allowed to enter it to record or film. However, if any government department or any government official in Hong Kong is a little careless and gives people the excuse that they deliberately favored "a certain family", he will have to Prepare to be spit on, even Mr. Dong can't ignore it.The Hong Kong media are accustomed to this kind of "regional love". Not only do they have no extravagant expectations for various "privileges", but also the reporters seem to have no complaints when facing the "red rope".

In the past, an old senior from CCTV stationed in Hong Kong once told me that when he first came to Hong Kong in 1992, he went out to interview one day. It was an important meeting of the Hong Kong government. .When he saw the reporters in Hong Kong carrying bread and mineral water, he was amused: "What is this for? After the interview is over, wouldn't it be better to go home and have a good meal?" But the meeting went on for a whole day , Hong Kong reporters waited outside from morning till night, tearing bread when they were hungry, and drinking mineral water when thirsty. Called us all early in the morning?" This "old man" felt helpless, so he should leave, for fear of missing the news; if he didn't leave, he would be too hungry and thirsty.Seeing the Hong Kong journalists talking and laughing happily and naturally, he later gave me an extremely deep emotion: "It's different! The situation is different! The journalists in Hong Kong are dedicated, or professional. They run around and starve every day, as if I never knew what a grievance was!"

Don't know what is "grievance" or "dedication"?Does it look "professional"? The words of the "senior" made me squint my eyes and start to observe the difference between Hong Kong reporters and our "mainland".
