Chapter 7 〇6. Liu Zhidan's Personality Charm and Chinese Traditional Culture

I have been engaged in local party history work in Zhidan County for more than 20 years, and gradually got to know Liu Zhidan in my work, and thus developed a very strong admiration for Liu Zhidan. Liu Zhidan has shown his superior wisdom and courage since he was a teenager. When I was in Yulin Middle School, I embarked on the road of revolution without hesitation and joined the Communist Party of China one by one. From then on, he shouldered the historical mission of overthrowing the old social system and saving the working people across the country. He always adheres to the idea of putting people first, and always keeps the common people's affairs in mind.He believes in Marxism-Leninism and loves the people. In the brutal revolutionary struggle, broad-mindedness and fraternity are shown everywhere, showing the high-spirited integrity of a Communist Party member who should understand the general situation and take into account the overall situation. His noble character and extraordinary personality charm have won the incomparable love and admiration of the people in northern Shaanxi.Zhang Dazhi once recalled: In the second campaign against "encirclement and suppression" in northern Shaanxi, Liu Zhidan led troops to attack Mujiayuan in Wubao County. After the battle, the troops returned to Songjiapo where they were stationed to rest.At night, Liu Zhidan stayed up all night, devoted himself to studying the enemy's situation, formulating and deploying the troops' next actions and combat plans, and went to sleep in his clothes in the early morning.Just before dawn, two fellow villagers drove tens of miles of mountain roads to the army station to ask to see Liu Zhidan, and happened to meet Zhang Dazhi.Zhang Dazhi explained to the fellow villagers: "Old Liu has been busy all night. He just lay down with his clothes on. Don't disturb him and let him have a good rest." It’s okay to take a look inside.” Liu Zhidan walked out of the room while speaking, asking what’s the matter?Zhang Dazhi stepped forward and reported that two fellow villagers want to see you.Liu Zhidan said to the two villagers: "I am Liu Zhidan, what is the matter?" The two villagers held Liu Zhidan's hand tightly and said excitedly: "It's okay, it's okay, we just want to meet you, you are our old Liu what!"

In 2003, the 100th anniversary of Liu Zhidan's birth, the Zhidan County Committee of the Communist Party of China held a grand commemorative event. Before that, the county committee sent me to Beijing to collect calligraphy and paintings commemorating Liu Zhidan.I went to Jin Zhilin's house and asked Jin Zhilin to write a picture. At first Mr. Jin was determined not to write, saying that he would not write for anyone, but when I explained to him that it was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Comrade Liu Zhidan’s birth, and that the county planned to hold a calligraphy and painting exhibition in memory of Liu Zhidan during the commemorative activities, Jin Zhilin immediately said: : "In order to commemorate Liu Zhidan, I must write, Liu Zhidan is too great." I asked: "How great is Liu Zhidan?" Mr. Jin replied: "Liu Zhidan has never made a 'right' mistake in his life, nor has he made a 'left' mistake. Isn’t this a great mistake?” I admire and am very satisfied with Mr. Jin’s answer.

In October 2008, the Liu Zhidan Research Committee held an academic seminar to commemorate Liu Zhidan. At the meeting, Wei Minzhong, the former vice chairman of the CPPCC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, broke down in tears when he recalled the scene of Liu Zhidan's sacrifice in the Eastern Expedition and his body being transported back to Wayaobao.Let's think about it with our hearts. When the old man recalls the past 70 years ago, there must be an invisible, and it is an extraordinary and huge emotional force, so that he can be so sad, otherwise he would not be so emotional. There are too many stories like this, and the above-mentioned stories illustrate a problem, Liu Zhidan is always remembered by people and by history.People will always admire Liu Zhidan's noble character and worship his extraordinary charisma. So, how did Liu Zhidan's noble character and extraordinary personality charm come about? What is the basis of his thought? This is a question that we need to discuss in studying Liu Zhidan.Comrade Zhang Guang said that he had talked with Liu Zhidan's father, Mr. Liu Peiji many times in the past. Mr. Liu once told him that Liu Zhidan is very kind to people, which is inseparable from his education and influence of traditional Chinese culture. This is indeed the case: in 1903, Liu Zhidan was born in Jintang School in Jintang Town, and Liu Zhidan's father, Liu Peiji, taught in the school.Every day, the sound of reading and writing in the school, every word and sentence, subtly affects Liu Zhidan's young mind. When Liu Zhidan was six years old, he went back to Luzigou with his mother. His grandfather, Mr. Liu Shijie, was a private school. Mr. Liu Shijie was a tribute student in the late Qing Dynasty. run a school. In the fifth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1879), Liu Shijie opened the first school in Jintang and served as a teacher himself.Liu Peiji was successful in his studies, passed the examination as a scholar, and got married and established a career.Liu Shijie handed over the business and school in Jintang Town to his son, and returned to Luzigou to farm, expand his home, and opened a private school.Liu Zhidan is smart and eager to learn, and Liu Shijie is doubly loving to his eldest grandson, caring for Zhidan's growth in every possible way, and passing on cultural knowledge to the best of his ability.Liu Zhidan is knowledgeable and knowledgeable. Under the diligent education of his grandfather, he is familiar with classics such as the "Four Books" and "Five Classics" of traditional Chinese culture.Father Liu Peiji also often enlightened Liu Zhidan by precept and example: "Don't give to others what you don't want yourself to do", "If you want to be established, build others, and if you want to achieve, achieve others."

From Liu Zhidan's growth process and revolutionary career, we know that Liu Zhidan received a good family education when he was young, that is, the influence of excellent traditional Chinese culture. With the help and influence of Li Zizhou, Wei Yechou, Zhou Enlai, Yun Daiying and others in Yulin Middle School and Huangpu Military Academy, he accepted Marxism-Leninism.Liu Zhidan's dedication to the revolution without hesitation was the correct choice he made after accepting Marxism-Leninism.During his revolutionary life, he treated his comrades kindly, respected the people, and worked together, which was particularly important because he was influenced by the thought of "harmony" in the excellent traditional culture.

In classical Chinese philosophy, yin and yang and the five elements interact to achieve balance, and what balance refers to is "harmony".Lao Tzu, a sage in ancient China, put forward: "Knowledge is in harmony with the daily life, knowing the daily life is bright." Confucius said: "For the purpose of ritual, harmony is the most precious." In traditional culture, the idea of "harmony" is still recognized by society and respected by people. For example, "peace is precious", "harmony generates wealth", "family harmony", "peaceful coexistence", "harmonious society" and so on.From ancient times to the present, "harmony" is expressed in the relationship between people, emphasizing the unity of man and nature, that is, the unity of man and nature, and the harmony between man and nature, symbiosis and co-prosperity; "harmony" is expressed in the relationship between man and man In terms of respect, it requires being kind to others, treating others well, reciprocating courtesy, living in harmony, and being united; Among the social groups, the individual needs and goals of struggle are combined with the society to become a real social person.

Influenced and nurtured by the excellent traditional Chinese culture, Liu Zhidan established his own principles of life and conduct with the idea of "harmony", wholeheartedly worked for the welfare of the common people, and cared for his comrades and subordinates meticulously. In the Shaanxi-Gansu Revolutionary Base he founded, he organized the common people to develop production and trade, and tried every means to make the common people live a better life.In the armed struggle he organized and led, what he destroyed was the old social system, and what he attacked and eliminated were the enemies who were determined to maintain the old system. As long as there are people with Chinese conscience and patriotism, regardless of their status at the time, Liu Zhidan will try his best to educate, win over, unite and turn enemies into friends. For this reason, Liu Zhidan clearly pointed out in the armed struggle he organized and led: "Three-color revolution theory" of red, white, and gray must be adhered to in armed struggle. It also formulated the "three major policies" for reforming the Gelaohui and the "three major policies" for dealing with Kuomintang soldiers and bandits.

Within the revolutionary ranks, Liu Zhidan is even more united and caring for every comrade, never doubting anything and overthrowing everything. He does not engage in those who follow me to prosper and those who oppose me to perish, and he does not engage in retaliation. He is often framed by others, but he never framed his comrades out of nothing. In 1931, he was confiscated by his comrades in Sanjiayuan; in 1936, he was imprisoned by the Communist Party during the wrong "elimination of counter-revolutionaries" in northern Shaanxi. However, Comrade Zhidan always puts the revolutionary cause of the party and the people as the most important thing, proceeds from the overall situation, does not care about personal gains and losses, seeks common ground, seeks harmony, and unites to deal with the common enemy, showing that a Communist is open-minded, open-minded, fraternal and selfless His lofty moral character and extraordinary personality charm have also formed him, which makes him have a high prestige among the people. People sincerely admire and love him, and sing and praise him from the bottom of their hearts. His great love for comrades and ordinary people is derived from traditional Chinese culture, and "harmony" is the ideological basis of Liu Zhidan's noble character and charismatic personality.

Throughout his revolutionary life, Liu Zhidan has always insisted on using the Chinese idea of "harmony" to cultivate himself, armed himself with Marxism-Leninism, and combined the traditional culture of China with the scientific theory of Marxism-Leninism and applied it to his own revolutionary practice. In the intricate struggle, he was able to stick to the correct general direction from beginning to end.In his life, he never made a "Right" or "Left" mistake, and made an immeasurable contribution to the victory of the Chinese revolution. He put forward the united front thought of "making revolution with friends, the more friends, the better, and the fewer enemies, the better", which laid the ideological foundation and theoretical basis for our party to establish the anti-Japanese national united front. He reformed the Gelaohui, reformed bandits, and won over the patriotic progressive elements in the Kuomintang army, providing valuable historical experience for the second cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. As Zhang Wentian wrote in his inscription for Liu Zhidan in October 1943: "Comrade Zhidan's line is the line of our party leader Mao Zedong, the line of our party's Bolsheviks, and the true Chinese Marxist-Leninist line..."
