Chapter 7 4. Chinese people are not worried about being hungry, but this may not be a good thing

Because we are not yet at the time when we don't have to think about eating! The national conditions of China with a large population and small land and the tight supply and demand of China's grain situation, doomed that food will always be the first major issue in China.Whoever neglects food may starve. From a realistic point of view, the contradiction between China's grain supply and demand still exists, and there is still a certain gap in grain production and consumption. This point, we will have a special discussion in the following chapters.Of course, we don't feel hungry now, but it doesn't mean that all the food problems in our country have been solved. On the whole, although my country's grain production still has some potential, the growth rate is quite limited. At present, our food consumption is still at a relatively low level. In layman's terms, it is just enough to fill the stomach, and the per capita is less than 400 kilograms. Many developed countries have reached more than 1,000 kilograms. Compared with them, we still have a considerable gap.If we are not only satisfied with a full stomach, but also want to eat better and nutritiously, the per capita grain consumption must reach at least 400 kilograms. Therefore, from a realistic point of view, the current food consumption is nothing more than tightly filling the stomach. With the rapid development of China's economy, people's demand for food will inevitably increase. This is a law that has been confirmed by all developed countries in the world. As the Chinese government led by the Communist Party of China, it is natural to have the responsibility to ensure that the Chinese people not only have enough to eat, but also eat well. From the perspective of food demand, it is more difficult to eat than to be full.

From the perspective of development, the relationship between China's grain supply and demand will become more tense. The cultivated land in our country is already at a relatively low level, only 1.5 mu per capita, and it is still decreasing at a rate of 6 million mu per year.By 2030, it is difficult for us to guarantee that there will be 1 mu of arable land per capita. No matter how hardworking our farmers are and how advanced our science is, how much grain can this 1 mu of arable land produce? The serious shortage of arable land, first of all, doomed us to have no easy time in food production.

The huge population is also a big pressure.China now has a population of more than 1.2 billion. By 2000, the most conservative estimate is that the population will reach 1.28 billion. By 2030, the population will reach a peak of 1.6 billion.Leaving aside the factor of increasing grain consumption level (and this is an inevitable trend) and only calculating on the basis of 400 kg per capita, the total grain demand must reach 512 million tons in 2000 and 6.4 trillion tons in 2030.In the following chapters, we will demonstrate in detail how difficult it is to achieve this number. In addition, we are constantly attacked by various natural disasters. There is still a gap between supply and demand in a bumper harvest year. In a disaster year, why not be more nervous?

From this point of view, whether it is now or in the future, the food problem will always be China's biggest problem. If we forget about our hunger after a few days of full food, and neglect food production, hunger risks resurging. We can't help but pay attention to it all the time - China, are you full?
