Chapter 1 Primer

On February 1, 1887, the "Lady of Vanity" collided with an abandoned ship and disappeared at about 1 degree south latitude and 107 degrees west longitude. On January 5, 1888, eleven months and four days after the accident, my uncle Edward Prentick was rescued by a small boat. The azimuth is 5 degrees 3 minutes south latitude and 1ol degrees west longitude. The name of the boat is illegible, but it is presumed to be that of the missing "Ipecan".My uncle was an ordinary gentleman who boarded the "Lady of Vanity" at the pier in Callao for his sea voyage. It was thought he had drowned after the accident. He told people about his experience, but because it was so bizarre, people thought he was crazy. He later claimed that since his escape from the Lady of Vanity, his mind had been blank. For a time, psychologists discussed his symptoms as an interesting case, exploring the law of mental and physical stress leading to memory loss. The following narrative materials were found by the author of this introduction, his nephew and heir, in the pile of documents left behind by him, and there is no intention of requesting public publication on the materials.

Noble Island is the only known island in the sea where my uncle was rescued. It was an uninhabited volcanic island. The Royal HMS Scorpion visited the island in 1891.A group of sailors landed on the island. They found nothing but a strange kind of white moth, some wild boars, hares, and strange-looking mice.Nothing else. They never brought back specimens of these animals. So this story lacks the most important thing to prove its truth.Having made the point, it does not seem to do any harm to make this story public.I believe that's exactly what my uncle intended. This material at least shows the following situation: my uncle disappeared at 5 degrees south latitude and 105 degrees east longitude, and after 11 months he reappeared in the same direction of the ocean.Somehow he survived all this time.It is said that there is a wooden sailing ship called the "Icon", and the captain John Davies is a drunkard. The ship actually set sail from Africa in January 1887 with pumas and some other animals on board. In several ports in the South Pacific region, this wooden sailing ship has a certain reputation. It was finally lost in that area, aboard a ship with a large load of dried nata prada, sailing from Banya in December 1887 to its unknown fate. This date coincides with my uncle's story.
