Chapter 19 History of the Continent of Karg

The history of the four continents of Karg is mostly legends, nothing more than the local disputes and mediation of the tribes, city-states, and small kingdoms that have formed the Karg society for thousands of years. Slavery was common in many city-states, and there was a social caste system and gender differences ("division of labor"), which were stricter than in the archipelago kingdoms. Religion was an element of unity even among the most warlike tribes.Among the four continents, there are hundreds of peaceful places where war or dispute is not allowed.Karg Religion is the worship of Taikoo Li by the family and the community. Taikoo Li is a mysterious or earth-maternal power that manifests itself as local gods and accepts flowers, sesame oil, food, dances, and track races at holy sites and home altars. , rituals, sculptures, ballads, music, silence and so on different offerings of worship.Worship is both casual and ritual, and exists in individuals and communities. There is no priestly organization, and any adult can perform rituals and teach children. This ancient soul ritual, after the emergence of new religious systems such as double gods and god kings, is still conducted informally and privately.

Among the countless sacred groves, caves, hills, springs, and rocks in the four continents, the most sacred places are in the caves and rocks on the ground in the Etuan Desert, known as "mausoleums".According to the earliest records, this place is a holy place, and the kings of Etuan and Hupan both set up hotels there to receive pilgrims. Six or seven hundred years ago, a religion of gods began to spread across the islands, developed from the belief in two gods. The twin gods are Ava and Uro, who were originally the twin heroes in a desert legend in Hurhu. Later, with the addition of the Father as the head of the gods, a priestly class was developed to lead the ceremony. The priests of the twin gods and the Father did not suppress the worship of Taikooli, but professionalized religion, managed ceremonies and ceremonies, built increasingly expensive temples, and controlled public ceremonies such as weddings, funerals, and official inaugurations.

The hierarchy and centralization tendencies of the religion first supported the ambitions of King Hupang of Karigol.Through military force and diplomatic strategies, the Hupang family conquered or absorbed most of the small Karg countries within about a hundred years, totaling more than 200. Eriabai came to conclude peace for the archipelago kingdom and the Karg continent, brought the ring as a token, and when he declared the king's sincerity (440 AD), he went to Hupang and regarded this place as the Karg Empire The capital, and King Soreig will give him the gift of ruler. But for decades King Hupang had been at odds with the high priests and followers of Avabas, a holy city fifty miles away. The double-god priest took power from the king, making Avabas not only a religious center, but also a national political center.Eriabah's visit seems to have coincided with the final stages of the transfer of power from the king to the priests.King Thoreg received him with honor, but High Priest Intesin fought him, defeated or deceived him, and imprisoned him.The ring that was about to bind the two kingdoms was also broken.

After this battle, the blood of King Karg continued to spread in Hupang, and he was respected in name but had no real power. The four continents are ruled by Avabas. The high priest of the double gods also became the priest-king. In the 840th year of the Archipelago Kingdom, one of the priest-kings poisoned the other, announcing that he was the incarnation of the Heavenly Father and God-King, and was worshiped in the flesh. The worship of the twin gods continued, as did the popular Primordial Force, but religious and secular power were henceforth in the hands of the God-King, who was chosen (often with somewhat hidden violence) by the priests of Avabas to be deified. The Four Continents were proclaimed the Empire of Heaven, and the official title of the God King was the Emperor of Kings.

The last heirs of the Hupang family are a boy and a girl, Ansa and Anxiu. The king of gods wanted to end the blood of the Karg royal family, but he did not want to be charged with blasphemy because of the bloodshed of the royal family, so he ordered the two children to be abandoned on the desert island.Among Princess Anxiu's clothes and toys, there is half a broken ring brought by Eriyabai. When she was very old, she gave the ring to Ged who drifted to the island in a shipwreck.Afterwards, with the assistance of Arha (Tianar), the first priestess of Etuan Guardian Mausoleum, Ged finally joined the broken ring and recreated the peace rune.He and Tenar took the healed ring back to Havnor, and waited for Morad and Lebanon, son of Seliel.
