Chapter 4 Chapter Four
"To the Director of the Pittsburgh Observatory, Pennsylvania
Mr. Director:
I have the honor to inform you of the following fact, which is bound to interest the world of astronomical science. On the morning of March 16 this year, I spotted a bolide traveling through the northern sky at a very high speed, with a clear north-south orbit.According to my precise measurement, it forms an angle of 3°31' with the meridian. It appeared in the lens of my telescope at 7:37:20 and disappeared at 7:37:29.Although I searched carefully after that, I couldn't find it again.I therefore ask you to take the trouble to record this observation and give me a receipt of this letter. When the above-mentioned meteor reappeared, this letter may prove that I was the first to make this precious discovery.
Best regards
Your Faithful Servant Dean Forsyth

"To the Director of the Cincinnati Observatory, Ohio
Mr. Director:
From 7:37:20 to 7:37:29 in the morning of March 16, I was fortunate to discover a new fireball moving from north to south in the northern sky.Its surface direction is only at an angle of 3°31' with the meridian. After that I failed to catch the meteor's orbit again. But should he reappear (which I have no doubt about), I consider my name to be included in the Annals of Contemporary Astronomy as the discoverer of this meteor. For this reason, I take the liberty to write you this letter, and please reply and let me know when you see it.
Sincerely, salute
Dr Sidney Hudson
