Chapter 42 Chapter 42: Action is the Only Medicine

Thomas decides not to share Newt's message with the others, seeing no point in telling them.It was time to move on, and he didn't expect that he would make this decision so coldly. They stayed in the Berg spaceship for two nights, and after resting, they began to discuss plans. No one knew anything about the city, or had any established contacts. They talked about Gary and the Justice Army, and the Justice Army wanted to stop WICKED.If WICKED is indeed going to restart the experiment with the new Immunizers, then Thomas and his friends have the same goals as the Justice Army. Gary, they have to go back to Gary.

The morning after his argument with Newt, Thomas took a shower and joined the others for a light breakfast. It was clear that after two days of sitting still, everyone was desperate to get moving. The plan was to go to Gary's place first and go from there. They were a little worried about what Newt had told them—that some demented people were planning to storm out of the palace for Denver, but there was no sign of that yet. As soon as they were ready, Thomas and the others assembled at the hatch. "Let me negotiate with others," Jorge said. Brenda nodded and said, "We'll find a taxi when we get into town."

"Okay," Minho muttered, "Let's stop shouting and let's go." Thomas couldn't have said it better himself, action was the only antidote to his despair over Newt and his dreadful note. Jorge flicked a switch, and the gangway began to unscrew downward.Halfway through the door, they saw three people standing outside the Berg.As the bottom of the gangway touched the ground, Thomas realized they were not there to welcome them. Two men, one woman, wearing the same metal protective masks as the redshirt man in the coffee shop. The man holds a pistol and the woman holds a launcher.Their faces were dirty, they were covered in sweat, and their clothes were torn in places, as if they had just come here after a bloody battle. Thomas only hoped that they were extra careful security personnel.

"What happened?" Jorge asked. "Shut up, Immune," said one of the guys, the robotic voice making his words sound more sinister, "come down now, or you won't like what's going to happen, don't try anything." Thomas looked over the raiders and was startled to see that the two doors leading into Denver were wide open, and that there were two people lying lifeless on the narrow passage leading into the city. Jorge was the first to speak: "If you fire first, brother, we'll be on you like flies. You can hit one of us, but we'll take all three of you assholes."

Thomas knew it was a useless threat. "We have nothing to lose," said the man. "Use your best tricks. I'm pretty confident I can immobilize both of you before you make a move." He put The gun was raised a few inches, into Jorge's face. "Fair enough," Jorge muttered and raised his hand, "now you win." Minho moaned and said, "You fool is so powerful." But he also raised his hand, "You guys better not let your guard down, that's all I have to say." Knowing that they had no choice but to follow, Thomas raised his hand and was the first down the gangway. The others followed, and then they were led to the back of the Berg ship, where they saw a battered van waiting with its engine rumbling. The woman in the protective mask sat behind the wheel, and two others sat in the seat behind her with the transmitter.

One of the men opened the side door and nodded to let them in. "Go in, if you make a wrong step, the bullets will fly. As I said, we won't have any losses. The world is not just one or two less immune guys, but worse." Thomas climbed into the back of the van, thinking all the time about the odds.Six to four, he thought, but they had weapons. "Who paid you to steal the immunizers?" he asked, as his friend crawled in and sat next to him.He wanted to make sure that Immunity had been rounded up and then sold off, as Teresa had told Gary. No one answered. The three men who "greeted" them at the Berg ship got into the van and closed the door, and they aimed their guns at the back.

"There's a bunch of black masks in the corner," said the leader. "Put them on. If I catch you peeping on the way, I'll be rude. We've got to keep it a secret." Thomas sighed, arguing was pointless, and grabbed a hood and put it on his head. There was darkness in front of my eyes, and I could only feel the truck staggering and rumbling forward.
