Chapter 13 Chapter Thirteen Small Robot Lizard

Brenda had a strange mixture of anger and excitement on her face, and Thomas stood ready beside her, clutching the launcher tightly.He knew that trusting Brenda was a gamble.He'd been lied to by pretty much everyone in the organization, and he couldn't underestimate WICKED, but she was the one who got them to where they were.And if he was going to take her, there would be no more reason to doubt her. The first guard arrived, wearing the same black uniform as the others, but the weapon he clutched tightly to his chest was different, smaller and shiny.Thomas fired, watching the grenade hit the man in the chest, knocking him back, convulsing and shaking in a cloud of lightning.

Immediately behind him were two more people, a man and a woman, with launchers. Minho made a move before Thomas, he grabbed the woman by the collar, dragged her to him, threw her around, and threw her against the wall.She fired once, but the silver grenade hit the ground without hurting anyone, and there was a crackling sound on the tiled floor. Brenda shot the man, hitting him in the thigh.A small jagged current rushed through his torso, and he howled and fell down the hall, his weapon falling to the floor. Minho disarmed the woman and forced her to kneel, he now holds the launcher to her head.

A fourth came through the door, but Newt knocked the weapon out of his hand and punched him in the face.He fell to his knees, covering his bleeding mouth with one hand.The guard looked up, as if about to say something, but Newt stepped back and shot him in the chest.At such close range, a ball of fire exploded on top of him with a terrible crackling sound.He let out a miserable scream and fell to the ground, writhing and writhing in a cloud of lightning. "That blade beetle is watching us," Newt said, nodding toward something in the back of the room. "We need to get out of here. They'll keep coming."

Thomas turned around to see a small robotic lizard, blinking red.He looked over to the door and saw that it was empty.He turned to look at the female guard, Minho's gun was placed directly above her head. "How many people are there?" Thomas asked her. "Anyone else coming here?" She didn't answer at first, but Minho leaned forward and his gun was almost in her face. "There are at least fifty people on duty," she said quickly. "Then where are they?" Minho asked again. "have no idea." "Don't lie to me!" Minho roared.

"We...something else happened, I don't know what, I swear." Thomas took a good look at her and saw that there was more than just fear in her expression.Is it depression?She seemed to be telling the truth. "Anything else? Like?" She shook her head. "I just know a group of us were called to a different area and that's it." "And you don't know why?" Thomas tried to make his voice as suspicious as possible, "I can't believe everything you said." "I swear." Minho grabbed the clothes on her back and pulled her up: "Then, let's take this lovely lady as a hostage, and let's go."

Thomas stepped in front of him. "Let Brenda lead the way, she knows the way here. I'll follow, and then you and your new friend, Newt at the rear." Brenda hurried to stand beside Thomas. "I still haven't heard anyone coming, but we don't have much time, let's go." She glanced down the hall, then flashed out of the room. Thomas wiped his palms quickly on his pants, grabbed the transmitter, and followed her as she turned to the right.He heard the others following him, and with a quick glance, saw Minho's captive running after him.She looked unhappy, worried about a potential electric bath at any moment.

They reached the end of the hall they had first come to and turned right without stopping.The new path they took was exactly the same as the previous one, and they walked at least fifty feet forward through a beige hallway before they came to a pair of double doors.Somehow, the scene reminded Thomas of the final stretch of the maze ahead of the cliff, as he, Teresa, and Chuck rushed to the exit while the others fought off the Griever and covered them. When they were about to reach the door, Thomas took the Ratman's key card from his pocket. Their hostage yelled at him, "I'm not doing that! I bet there are twenty launchers waiting over there to burn you alive." But her voice sounded desperate.Could WICKED be a little overconfident and let their guard down?There were only twenty or thirty teenagers left, and they certainly wouldn't have more than one security officer for each subject, even if there were that many.

Thomas and his friends have to find Jorge and the Berg, but they also have to find everyone.He thought of Frypan and Teresa, he couldn't leave them alone just because they chose to restore their memories. He stopped hastily at the door, turned to look at Minho and Newt. "We only have four launchers, so we better be prepared to have more guards waiting for us at the door, are we ready?" Minho walked over to the panel of the key card, tugging at the guard's collar and said, "You come and open the door for us so we can target your accomplices. Just stand there, we didn't give you an order, Don't do anything, don't mess with me." He turned to Thomas and said, "Start shooting as soon as the door opens."

Thomas nodded and said, "I crouch down, Minho, and you lean on my shoulder. Brenda is on my left, and Newt is on my right." Thomas squatted down, holding the muzzle of the gun against the crack of the door.Minho imitated Thomas on top of him, and Newt and Brenda took their places. "Open the door on the count of three," Minho said. "And, Miss Guard, if you try to play tricks or try to escape, I promise one of us will catch you. Thomas, count down." The woman took out her key card and said nothing. "One," Thomas began counting, "two." He paused to let himself take a deep breath, but before he could yell the third number, the alarm went off and the lights went out.
