Perry stumbled out of the bathroom, bleeding, coughing and crying, snot and saliva everywhere. He was so dazed that he didn't even see the hatchlings scattered about the room, their awkward little bodies bouncing wildly across the floor. They filled his mind with nonsense and babble. With a bunch of stuff in his arms, Perry threw a bottle against the wall by the door. The bottle shattered and the wine splashed all over the wall and floor. He saw a hatch rushing towards him.He grabbed the bloody chicken scissors. The hatchling hopped toward his legs, wrapping its tentacles around his calf.He felt the pain, the pain of a cut, but it seemed distant, like hearing a cry from a mile away.He swung the chicken scissors and stabbed down, piercing the hatchling's body.

There was a quintet of brains, a woman's shriek pouring out of each hatch in unison. "Why can I still hear them?" Perry murmured. His voice became hysterical, "I've got them all fixed...why am I still able to hear them? Hell!" He picked up the chicken scissors and watched for a moment the impaled hatch writhing on the blade. With a flick of his wrist, he flicked the hatchling out.It fell to the floor, punctured, but continued to writhe, leaving purple sticky marks on the carpet. Perry threw his head back and let out a rough growl, and the hatchlings started backing away.He moved to the door, stepping over Fat Patty's body.He noticed that her lower leg and hand were gone, replaced by a bloody mess. The hatchlings were bouncing up and down in a sickening dance, squeaking and clicking, sending a jumble of threatening signals through his mind.

"You'll pay the price, you bastard." "You will get what you deserve soon." Perry ignored them and hopped toward the door.He put away the things in his arms, then unlocked the door and pushed open the door.He smashed the last bottle of wine against the door frame. The wine soaked the porch carpet. "You are a bad person." "We're going to get you, we're going to get you." He took one last look at the hatchlings, and they looked at him resentfully, black eyes full of hatred. Perry said nothing. He couldn't think of any words.A smear of saliva hung on his lips, shaking with his clumsy movements. He threw the chicken scissors on the floor.

He still has two things in his hand. One is a lighter. He flicked off its top cover. Perry Darcy looked around the room with a look in his eyes far beyond his 27 years of vicissitudes. He bent down and let the flames kiss the wine-soaked floor. The flames flew up immediately, warm blue at first, but the burning carpet quickly intensified the fire, and the flames also turned orange. He dropped the lighter, he had only one thing left in his hand now.The fire was still spreading, up the door frame, and up to the ceiling. Perry took one last look at the hatchlings. They scrambled around the apartment like satanic minions, bouncing off walls, furniture, and staring at each other in blank terror—the flames spread quickly throughout the apartment, and they had nowhere to escape.

"Yes, you're going to burn," Perry said quietly. He turned to leave, but he saw the map.The fire burned to the corner of the map. He reached up and tore the map off the door, and walked out of the apartment, flames dancing over him.
