Legend 杨力 7106Words 2018-03-13
The envoy from Tianzhu said: "Jiexian Zhengfazang has passed away, and when he died, he called the name of the master." Xuanzang burst into tears when he heard it... Tang Gaozong Li Zhi witnessed all this, and he was so moved that his eyes were red... At the beginning of the autumn frost, the maple trees of Da Ci'en Temple were completely dyed, and the golden sunlight fell on the yellow tiles of the Buddhist temple, making the solemn temple more brilliant. After the death of Emperor Taizong, Xuanzang returned to Daci'en Temple, and he could finally devote himself to translating scriptures. But Xuanzang is also the abbot of the monastery, and all matters, big or small, must go through his eyes.Every morning, I translate the scriptures, explain the new scriptures after lunch and at dusk, and handle monastery affairs in the afternoon. I also receive monks from various states to listen to the lectures and answer their questions.

In the evening, after reciting the scriptures, I have to rush to translate the part that was delayed during the day, as well as review and assign tomorrow's translation tasks. I dare not rest until the translation is finished. Therefore, I often get up at the third watch and go to bed at the fifth watch, and start translating after reading the scriptures. Day and night, lying down at the third watch and rising at the fifth watch, Xuanzang worked superhumanly with ten or a hundred times the energy of others... In the early morning of this day, the bright red sun burst out, and the sky was full of morning glory. The banners and buildings of Chang'an City meet the clouds, and thousands of heads are moving.

It turned out that the inscription written by Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty and written by himself had been engraved and was being sent to Daci'en Temple by Xu Jingzong, Minister of Rites. Xuanzang led the Da Ci'en Temple and the monks and nuns of various temples near and far in the capital to welcome them at the Fanglin Gate with banner covers, precious tents, banners, and flowers. The ten-mile long road from Da Ci'en Temple to Fanglin Gate was extremely lively and crowded with spectators. When the drums played, Emperor Gaozong of Tang led Empress Wu and celebrities from the capital to the Anfu Menyu Building to watch. Long Yan was very happy. The flags and banners on the long street are like dragons, and the people who were waiting eagerly saw Xuanzang approaching, and they boiled up... Xuanzang thought of the hard-won journey from Tianzhu to the present, and couldn't help feeling sad and happy, and burst into tears...

Chang'an City was immersed in joyful and lively crowds. This is another climax of Buddhism after the inauguration ceremony of Da Ci'en Temple in the Tang Gaozong era. Soon, Xuanzang fainted in the scripture translation hall.Tang Gaozong took great care of him after he got the report, and sent famous doctors to treat him, and sent people to deliver medicine. He cared deeply for Xuanzang.Xuanzang, who was on the sickbed, was very grateful. Kui Ji brought medicine to the master and said, "Master, please drink the medicine." Huili helped Xuanzang to sit up, Xuanzang took a few sips from the medicine cup, and said to his disciples: "The imperial court is very concerned about our translation of scriptures, and we must work harder to translate. It seems that my body is It's getting weaker and weaker, and we all have to pay close attention to translation."

Both disciples said: "Master, don't worry." That afternoon, Xuanzang, who had just recovered from a serious illness, was lecturing scriptures to monks from all over the world. The attendant came to report, and Gaozong issued an order to invite the master to the palace, saying that he had something important to do.Xuanzang finished his lecture and rushed to the palace. After the death of Tang Taizong, the crown prince Li Zhi came to the throne as Gaozong.Gaozong was very devout to Buddhism, and he also gave great support to Xuanzang's translation of Buddhist scriptures. He ordered groups of courtiers to Daci'en Temple to assist Xuanzang in embellishing the translated scriptures with rhetoric. With the support of the emperor, many local officials and celebrities came to learn the Fa from Xuanzang one after another, and some asked Xuanzang to shave them.

Xuanzang's disciples increased day by day, reaching as many as three thousand like Confucius. Da Ci'en Temple was more grand than Hongfu Temple, and Buddhism entered the peak stage of the Tang Dynasty. So Xuanzang was very grateful to Gaozong. At this moment, since it was Gaozong's call, of course he could not neglect it, otherwise even if the sky fell, he would never stop teaching scriptures halfway. Xuanzang was sitting on the car, wondering what would happen, and at the same time thinking about summoning today, no matter what it was, anyway, he must take this opportunity to appeal to the emperor to build a Buddhist scripture tower, and now the translated scriptures are getting better and better More, it's time to take good care of it.

Thinking of this, Xuanzang said to his disciple Kui Ji who was riding with him: "Kuji, do you think the emperor will agree to build the pagoda?" "I think it will. Our scriptures are all piled up into a hill. If we don't build a pagoda, so many scriptures will be released! If the emperor refuses, I will ask my uncle for help." Since Xuanzang accepted Kuuji as his disciple, he felt like a bosom friend.Although Kuiji is twice as young as Xuanzang, he is good at understanding scriptures and people. He has the deepest understanding of Xuanzang's Buddhist thoughts, especially "Cheng Wei Consciousness Theory". He is better than all his disciples, so Xuanzang attaches great importance to him and often takes him by his side. This Kuiji did not rely on talent, but worked hard, and his translation results surpassed all others, so he was deeply loved by Xuanzang.

When they arrived at the imperial palace, Xuanzang and others were introduced into the Zichen Hall. Xuanzang and Kuiji bowed down to Gaozong. "Master, no courtesy." Gaozong waved his hand kindly. Gaozong said to Xuanzang: "Master, this is the envoy from Tianzhu and the eminent monk from Tianzhu. They want to see you." Xuanzang immediately got up and walked towards the envoy and the eminent monk. The envoy hurriedly stepped forward and knelt down to the master: "I have to worship the mage today, luckily, luckily!" Xuanzang paid homage to the eminent monk Dharma Chang again.

Xuanzang asked about Jiexianzheng Dharma, and the Dharma chief said: "Jie Xian's Zheng Dharma Collection has passed away long ago, and when he passed away, he still called the name of the master." Xuanzang burst into tears when he heard this, and said: "The kindness given to me by Jiexian Zhengfa Zang is as great as a mountain, and my disciples will never forget him for the rest of their lives. In order to repay Zhengfa Zang and promote Buddhism, Xuanzang must work harder to translate scriptures, and must spread the Buddhadharma taught by Zhengfa Zang in the Tang Dynasty." Tang Gaozong Li Zhi witnessed all this, and his eyes were red with emotion.

The envoy said again: "King Jieri and King Kumara passed away successively, and King Jieri died in a coup." Xuanzang said: "Sure enough, the dream has come true. King Jieri is worthy of being the hero of Tianzhu. Xuanzang will never forget the kindness that King Jieri, King Kumara, and King Tuozha have shown to Xuanzang." The envoy said again: "Master is really amazing. Your name is well known in Tianzhu. When I came, many monks asked me to greet Master!" "Ah! Thank you monks and people from India." The envoy reported to Tang Gaozong: "Your Majesty the Emperor, this time I am an envoy to the Tang Dynasty at the order of King Kamaluva, with the purpose of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. I have brought a group of merchants to conduct business with your country, and we have also brought The flower seeds, rapeseed and craftsmen of Tianzhu are ready to exchange silk spinning technology with your country."

Gao Zong praised: "Da Tang welcomes you, respected envoy, if the Chinese and Western states can blend with each other, it will benefit future generations." The eminent monk Fachang conveyed the greetings from the eminent monks Zhiguang and Huitian of Mahabodhi Temple in Central India to Xuanzang, and presented their white scarves (white scarves) to Xuanzang.Xuanzang took it with palms together, unfolded it, and saw that it read: ...Respect to Wuliang for less illness and less trouble... Today I am sending a pair of white scorpions to show that I am not hollow, and the road is far away so I can't blame it for being few... Xuanzang immediately wrote a letter of thanks on the white silk scarf: ... Xuanzang's theories have been translated into more than 30 volumes, including "Yogi's Land Theory". ... and crossed the Xindu River to lose scriptures, and the name is recorded as follows. If you have a letter, please attach it.And there is a piece of offering, willing to accept it.The road is not long, don't think it's too thin.Monk Xuanzang. The messenger pointed to several monks standing aside and said: "These are the students I brought under orders. They will learn the Dharma from Master Xuanzang in your country. Please the emperor and Master accept them." Several monks studying abroad immediately offered the Ten Great Gifts to the Emperor and Xuanzang. Tang Gaozong said happily: "China welcomes you." "Thank you Your Majesty, I thank you on behalf of the people of Tianzhu." The envoy saluted the emperor. Gaozong said to his courtiers: "Take the envoys from Tianzhu to the post to rest, and have a banquet in the evening." "Yes." Xuanzang said to Emperor Gaozong after the envoy had retired: "Your Majesty, Xuanzang has something to ask." "Mage, please speak." Xuanzang took a step forward, knelt down and said: "Your Majesty, we want to build a big pagoda to store the translated scriptures and treatises, as well as the relics, Buddha statues and Buddhist scriptures brought back from Tianzhu." "It's very good to build a Buddhist scriptures tower, but what kind of one should we build?" Gaozong asked with great interest. Seeing Emperor Gaozong nodding, Xuanzang was very happy and said, "Your Majesty, the poor monk wants to build a stone pagoda with four corners in shape, ten stories on top of the pagoda, and a height of thirty feet." The drawings drawn by Puguang's disciples were presented, and the eunuch handed the memorial table to Gaozong. Gaozong looked at it and said: "I think it's okay to build a tower. As for the specific matters, I will discuss with the ministers and there will be an order." "Thank you, Your Majesty." Xuanzang happily bowed to Emperor Gaozong and said: "Xuanzang is leaving." Gao Zong said: "No busy, master please stay for a few days, Wu Zhaoyi and I really want to hear your dharma." "Xuanzang obeyed the order." That night, in the main hall of the imperial palace, Emperor Gaozong hosted a vegetarian feast for the envoys from India and monks studying abroad. Xuanzang and several of his disciples were invited to attend.During the banquet, Xuanzang prayed to Xitian three times with palms together again and said: "Great Master Jiexian is as kind to his disciple as a mountain, and I pray that the great master in the fairy world can rest assured that the disciple will definitely carry forward the Buddhist teachings of the master in the east." The envoy from Tianzhu also stood up and bowed to the west, saying: "Jiexian Zhengfazang, we have arrived in the east as you wished, and met Master Xuanzang. He is now establishing a translation institute with the support of the King of the Tang Dynasty, and is translating Buddhist scriptures. Translated into Chinese, Venerable Master Xuanzang is a remarkable master." After the dinner, Xuanzang asked the envoy from Tianzhu about the situation of King Jieri's sister and princess. The messenger said that the princess had always believed in Buddhism, never married, and had passed away the year before last.Xuanzang's heart sank when he heard this, and secretly sighed that the love between Buddhas in the world is hard to break. The next day, Emperor Gaozong summoned Xuanzang in the imperial study, with Wu Zhaoyi standing beside him. After the death of Emperor Taizong of Tang, all concubines, talents, and court ladies who had been summoned by him all went to the Taoyuan Temple to shave their hair and become nuns.Wu Meiniang washed her face with tears all day long in the temple, hoping to have a bright future. But after Prince Li Zhi came to the throne (Tang Gaozong), the concubines and concubines in the palace were as beautiful as clouds, so Wu Meiniang had already been thrown out of the sky.If it weren't for the empress Wang and Concubine Xiao Shu's rivalry for favor, even if she had great abilities, she might only be able to spend her time in Xiangxiaohan Temple. One day, Queen Wang went to the Taoyuan Temple to burn incense and worship Buddha, and found Wu Mei's beauty, and heard that she had an affair with Prince Li Zhi when she was in the palace, so she had a whim, and wanted to get Wu Mei back to the government, with her beauty. She competed with Concubine Xiao Shu for favor and vented her anger for herself. She did not expect her decision to lure the wolf into the house, although it punished Concubine Xiao Shu, it also cost her the life of the queen. After Queen Wang returned to the palace, she deliberately arranged for Tang Gaozong Li Zhi to meet Wu Mei at the Induction Temple. Li Zhi did not expect that Wu Mei's face was still so beautiful, surpassing all the beauties in the palace, so he relived his old relationship with her.Afterwards, with the support of Queen Wang, Wu Mei quickly returned to the palace. At first she was nice to Queen Wang, but when she got rid of Concubine Xiao Shu, she turned her finger on Queen Wang. However, Queen Wang is not so easy to get rid of. She has a prominent family, especially the support of her uncle, Changsun Wuji (Changsun Wuji is the elder brother of Queen Changsun), so it is not easy to get rid of Queen Wang?Later, it was Wu Mei who strangled her daughter to death and planted it on Queen Wang. Now Wu Meiniang has been promoted to Zhaoyi, and she is proud of being favored by the emperor. After Xuanzang paid homage to Gaozong and Wu Zhaoyi, Gaozong said: "Master, Wu Zhaoyi admires Buddhism very much. She was ordained as a nun in the Induction Temple, and she believes in Buddhism very strongly. She wants to learn from you!" "Xuanzang is not talented, please give me some advice." Xuanzang clasped his hands together and said modestly. Wu Zhaoyi said: "Master, I have escaped into Buddhism for several years. Although I have returned to the common world, I will never forget the teachings of the Buddha, and it has not affected my devotion to the Buddha..." Xuanzang listened carefully, he respected this person who had been a nun for several years. Of course, he never imagined that this man who was devout to Buddha killed his own daughter and poisoned his two sons for the sake of power. "Master, what I don't understand is why Emperor Taizong tried to persuade you to return to secular life and go into politics several times, but you refused them all. Could it be that Buddhism and secularism are opposites?" Xuanzang originally thought that Wu Zhaoyi would ask some questions about the scriptures, but he did not expect to challenge him with such questions, obviously to show her ability to balance Buddhism, Taoism and politics. Wu Zhaoyi does have the unique skill of both Buddhism and Taoism in politics, and she uses Buddhism in politics very well. Not only did she make a transition to return to the palace and remarry through ordination, but she also used Buddhism as a tool to promote her government and improve her prestige after she became emperor, which was unexpected by Xuanzang. Xuanzang is a very smart person, of course he can't fail to understand the wit of Wu Zhaoyi's conversation, so he can only say tactfully: "Xuanzang believed in Buddhism since he was a child. Promoting Buddhism is the karma of Xuanzang's life. As for his reluctance to return to the vulgar and enter politics, it is because Xuanzang only has the heart of promoting Buddhism and has no talent for classics, so he died." Wu Zhaoyi smiled. Wu Zhaoyi is indeed very charming when she smiles, no wonder she is also called Mei Niang.Gao Zong looked at her bewilderedly. He was not so much listening to Wu Zhaoyi talking to Xuan Zang as admiring her beauty. She said to Xuanzang, "Master, I'm too worried. I just asked him about the relationship between education and Buddhism. I definitely don't want Master to be in politics. In fact, it is not too much to appoint a prime minister according to the talent of the master." "Where, where, the empress has won the prize." The three of them were talking when the eunuch came over to ask for instructions on the imperial meal.Gao Zongxuan: "Chuan Suzhai, today I will have lunch with the master." After a while, the eunuchs brought meals one by one like a shuttle. All kinds of vegetarian delicacies are placed on the royal table. Gaozong greeted Xuanzang to the table. They ate and talked. Wu Zhaoyi asked again: "Master, I heard that the kings of Tianzhu respect Buddhism?" "Yes, Buddhism also respects the king, so the relationship between monks and laymen, and between the state and religion is very harmonious. The government conducts alms, relief, and business through Dharma conferences, and Buddhism relies on the support of the government to hold lectures." Wu Zhaoyi is a very courageous and scheming person. After hearing Xuanzang's introduction, she felt quite enlightened. She thought to herself that if one day I take power, then I must use Buddhism for myself like the king of Tianzhu. Gao Zong asked Kui Ji with a smile: "Has your heart entered Buddhism?" Kui Ji got up and said: "Thank you, the emperor, for your care. The little monk has entered the Buddhist realm with the master, and he has cultivated the Buddha's mind with his heart." Gao Zong laughed loudly and said, "I didn't expect that the children of the nobles can devote themselves to Buddhism." Kui Ji replied: "Your Majesty is the emperor, don't you also respect Buddhism?" Emperor Gaozong asked Xuanzang again: "I heard that Kuiji has become a disciple of the master. Did the master accept Zhaoyi and me as disciples of the master?" Xuanzang hurriedly said: "Xuanzang dare not, the emperor and your empress have profound knowledge of Buddhism, Xuanzang is afraid that he will not be able to learn." Gaozong asked Xuanzang if he had any difficulties, and if so, he could report directly to him.Wu Zhaoyi asked some questions about the relationship between Buddhism and the government in Tianzhu and other countries in the Western Regions, and Xuanzang reported them truthfully.Wu Zhaoyi was very satisfied. After dinner, Xuanzang got up to leave for fear of affecting Emperor Gaozong's rest. In the cold winter, the north wind was blowing, and the Da Ci'en Temple was covered with white snow. The scripture translation institute is still translating Buddhist scriptures in an intense and orderly manner. "Cough, cough..." The violent coughing sound continued to come from a meditation room. "Teacher, you have a cold and cough again, please drink hot tea." Kui Ji poured hot tea for Xuanzang. "Thank you." Xuanzang took the cup and took a few sips before relieving his cough. Xuanzang is discussing the translation of "Cheng Wei Consciousness Theory" with Kui Ji and several other disciples. "Cheng Wei Consciousness Theory" is a Buddhist scripture that Xuanzang attaches great importance to, and later became the main theoretical basis of Xuan Zang's creation of Consciousness-only Buddhism, and it is the main point of view of Yogacara's practice. This book consists of ten volumes, and it is a compilation of various commentaries on the "Thirty Verses on Consciousness Only" written by the top ten Indian Dharma protectors. At this time, Kui Ji and several disciples neatly arranged the ten volumes of Buddhist scriptures and prepared to translate them. Kuiji made an important suggestion to Xuanzang. He said: "Master, according to my disciples' opinion, it is enough to focus on translating the annotations of Dharma protectors and then combine the knowledge of various schools. It is not necessary to translate all the annotations of the top ten masters." Xuanzang heard this, his eyes lit up, and he said: "You're right. The guardian's commentary is more accurate, so we'll concentrate on translating his point of view." The two masters and apprentices were counting together, and Pu Guang came in happily and said: "Mage, good news is here." "Oh, what good news?" "The emperor sent a secretary to order Li Yifu to deliver the decree." Xuanzang was excited for a while, he thought Master Li must have come to build the Buddhist scriptures pagoda. So Xuanzang led his disciples to welcome Li Yifu into the main hall outside the gate of the temple. After Li Yifu read out the imperial decree, he said: "The holy majesty has issued an order, agreeing to build the Buddhist scriptures tower, but the stone pagoda project is too big, and it may not be completed in a year or so. Now it has been decided to use bricks. The holy majesty has ordered the relevant departments to build it. Without the hard work of the mage, the location will be chosen It’s in the west courtyard. Once the preparations are complete, we can start working on another day.” Xuanzang and his disciples were overjoyed when they heard this. On this day, Xuanzang was answering the scripture translation problem with several masters at the scripture translation site. The monk came to report: "Great Master, there is a monk outside the door asking to see him, claiming to be the elder brother of the Great Master." "Ah." Xuanzang was startled, could it be his elder brother? "Quick, bring in quickly! Ah, no, I'll go." Xuanzang put down the scroll in his hand and hurried towards the gate, followed by all the monks and disciples. When we arrived at the gate of the monastery, we saw an old mage wearing a bamboo hat standing in the snow outside the gate. Xuanzang hoped that his brother would be eager, so he hurried down the steps of the gate and rushed over, his eyes met... "Ah, brother, it really is you..." "Brother Zi, brother finally saw you..." They hugged each other tightly, letting the tears roll down... It has been more than twenty years, and they never thought they would meet again. After entering the house, Xuanzang patted the snowflakes off his body and bamboo hat for his elder brother. Puguang, his disciple, brought a brazier, and Kuiji brought clothes, and said: "Master Changjie, change your clothes quickly." "Thank you." Master Changjie took the clothes and changed. Xuanzang introduced to his elder brother, "Brother, they are all my disciples. He is Kuiji, Puguang, and Yuance. Oh, it is Huili who brought you the hot soup." "Master Changjie is good." The four students said almost in unison. "Thank you, thank you." After thanking everyone, Master Changjie took a few sips of the hot soup. "Brother, I have asked someone to look for you for three years, but they have not found it. Brother, which monastery are you in?" "Brother wandered all over the world, visited all the major Qingshan temples, but he didn't stay in one place." "Oh, that's right. Brother, hurry up and go into the courtyard." When the monks in the monastery heard that Brother Xuanzang was coming, they all ran to greet him happily, and the small meditation room was full of people. After the fast meal, it was already dark, and everyone dispersed so that the two brothers could share the bed together. Outside the window, the bright moon was already in the sky, and it happened to be the fifteenth day. The two brothers sat cross-legged on the wooden couch, saying goodbye. "Brother, how are you, sister?" "Brother just met her when I was going to my father's funeral, and I haven't contacted her since. I heard that she is still alive." "That's good. My brother is planning to go back to Luoyang to visit his parents' graves in time. At the same time, he also wants to reunite with his sister." The two brothers talked very affectionately at home. However, there are still serious differences between the two in terms of academic views.Xuanzang begged: "Brother, stay and translate scriptures with us." "No, brother, let's wander the world!" "Brother, when my brother went to Tianzhu, Master Jiexian emphasized the existence of the realm of nirvana in his lectures. Otherwise, it would be empty, and it would lose the meaning of practicing Buddhism." Master Changjie sat up and said: "Nirvana does not exist at all. Buddhism is empty of the four elements. If it is not empty, it is not a Buddha." "Brother, you are too prejudiced." "This is not a prejudice. In fact, the brotherhood between you and me should also be empty. You miss me like this, which means that your practice has not yet reached home, at least the mortal relationship has not yet been completely ended." "elder brother……" "So, I can't stay and translate the scriptures with you, because the Buddhist scriptures are actually empty. Since the Buddha is empty, how can the Buddhist scriptures exist?" "Brother, without Buddhist scriptures, how can we practice Buddhism?" "Okay, the difference of opinion between you and me is still the same as before you went to the Western Paradise to learn Buddhist scriptures. It is still the difference between those with sects and those without sects. A real monk should be empty of all four things." "Brother... listen to me..." "Okay, don't try to persuade me, it's useless." "Brother, do you really want to go?" "yes." Outside the gate of the temple, the sky is still snowing, but it is much smaller.Xuanzang and the monks bid farewell to his elder brother, Master Changjie. Xuanzang said with tears: "Brother, although Buddhism has been born, human feelings still exist. Otherwise, how can we talk about great compassion and saving the suffering? The purpose of Sakyamuni's study of Buddhism is to save the suffering. He has become a Buddha, but When the old king died, he also went home and put on sackcloth and filial piety for his father's funeral." "That can only show that he has not yet mastered the Buddhist principles, and the mortal relationship has not yet been broken." "Brother, if you don't even believe in the Buddha, then there is nothing you can do as a younger brother." "Okay, let's not argue, let's take care of each other, goodbye." As soon as my brother turned around, he stepped on the snow and left... Xuanzang limped and wanted to send a piece, but his leg hurt too much to walk quickly, so he had to give up.The cold cough and bone cold caused by lying on the ice twice and crossing the snow-capped mountains have tormented him for a whole winter. "Brother, let's go, may the Buddha bless you." Xuanzang shed tears... Spring returns to the earth, Vientiane is renewed. There was laughter from Da Ci'en Temple. Inside and outside the courtyard walls, a bunch of yellow winter jasmine flowers in the sun, complementing the golden temple wall, makes the Buddhist temple more elegant and solemn. The construction of the Buddhist scriptures tower started, and the monks of Da Ci'en Temple participated in the construction happily. Xuanzang, who was obviously old, also went to pick the soil and carry the bricks himself. The monks recite scriptures early in the morning, translate texts in the morning, and work together with craftsmen in rotation after fasting to build a majestic pagoda. At dusk that day, Xuanzang and his disciples were talking excitedly as they looked at the pagoda rising from the ground. Xuanzang said to Suhuai beside him: "When the pagoda is built, two more stone tablets will be erected on the front of the pagoda, and the two prefaces written by Taizong and Gaozong and the scriptures on the holy records will be engraved on them. It would be great! You, a great calligrapher, must do your best. what!" Su Huai hurriedly said: "Master, I have won the award. How dare I write the emperor's calligraphy with only the footprints of bean sprouts like this disciple! Master, please ask Lord Chu Suiliang to write it. He is a prime minister and is good at calligraphy. He only has his characters and his calligraphy. The rank of the emperor is assigned to the emperor to write imperial texts, how can I be qualified!" "There is no high or low in Buddhism, and one cannot be inferior. If the emperor does not order someone to write it, I will ask you to write it." Xuanzang said seriously. Just when the pagoda was about to be built, something happened: one day, a wild goose was injured and fell into the Temple of Mercy. When a little monk saw it, he ran to pick it up, killed it, and was about to pluck it out, when Kui Ji saw it, and Kui Ji said: "The wild goose is the benevolent bird of our Buddhist family. When the Buddha saw it, he would 'go without food for ten days and not move evil thoughts', but you killed a wounded wild goose, and the wild goose even saved the life of the mage!" "Ah... I... I don't know, then... what should I do?" At this time, a monk had already reported to Xuanzang, and Xuanzang came in a hurry. Seeing the plucked wild goose, he felt very sad.He said: "The wild goose is a Buddha bird. The Buddha once sent it to save my life. How can you bear to kill it?" The little monk was in a hurry and knelt down to plead guilty.Xuanzang said: "You have violated the three precepts. Not to kill is the introductory rule of the Buddhist world. Have you forgotten it? Let alone an injured Buddha bird, you are now punished for three days of confinement. " "Thank you Master." Xuanzang said to the monks: "In order to commemorate the wild goose, this big pagoda should be named Big Wild Goose Pagoda." Later, Xuanzang built another small wild goose pagoda in order to repay the two wild geese, big and small, who guided him when he got lost in the swamp.According to legend, these two pagodas stand like two geese in the east and west of Chang'an, echoing each other for thousands of years.
