萧峰走下岭来，来到山侧，猛然间看到一块大岩，心中一凛：“当年玄慈方丈、汪帮主等率领中原豪杰，伏击我爹爹，杀死了我母亲和不少契丹武士，便是在此。”一侧头，只见一片山壁上斧凿的印痕宛然可见，正是玄慈将萧远山所留字迹削去之处。 萧峰缓缓回头，见到石壁旁一株花树，耳中似乎听到了阿朱当年躲在树后的声音：“乔大爷，你再打下去，这座山峰也要给你击倒了。” 他一呆，阿朱情致殷殷的几句话，清清楚楚的在他脑海中响起：“我在这里已等了你五日五夜，我只怕你不能来。你……你果然来了，谢谢老天爷保佑，你终于安然无恙。” 萧峰热泪盈眶，走到树旁，伸手摩挲树干，见那树比之当日与阿朱相会时已高了不少。一时间伤心欲绝，浑忘了身外之事。 忽听得一个尖锐的声音叫道：“姊夫，快退！快退！”阿紫奔近身来，拉住萧峰衣袖。 萧峰一抬头，远远望出去，只见东面、北面、南面三方，辽军长矛的矛头犹如树林般刺向天空，竟然已经合围。萧峰点了点头，道：“好，咱们退入雁门关再说。” 这时群豪都已聚在雁门关前。萧峰和阿紫并骑来到关口，关门却兀自紧闭。关门上一名宋军军官站在城头，朗声说道：“奉镇守雁门关指挥使张将军将令：尔等既是中原百姓，原可入关，但不知是否勾结辽军的奸细，因此各人抛下军器，待我军一一搜检。身上如不藏军器者，张将军开恩，放尔等入关。” 此言一出，群豪登时大哗。有的说：“我等千里奔驰，奋力抵抗辽兵，怎可怀疑我等是奸细？”有的道：“我们携带军器，是为了相助将军抗辽。倘若失去了趁手兵器，如何和辽军打仗？”更有性子粗暴之人叫骂起来：“他妈的，不放我们进关么？大伙儿攻进去！” 玄渡急忙制止，向那军官道：“相烦禀报张将军知道：我们都是忠义为国的大宋百姓。敌军转眼即至，再要搜检甚么的，耽误了时刻，那时再开关，便危险了。” 那军官已听了人丛中的叫骂之声，又见许多人穿着奇形怪状的衣饰，不类中土人士，说道：“老和尚，你说你们都是中土良民，我瞧有许多不是中国人罢？好！我就网开一面，大宋良民可以进关，不是大宋子民，可不得进关。” 群豪面面相觑，无不愤怒。段誉的部属是大理国臣民，虚竹的部属更是各族人氏都有，或西域、或西夏、或吐蕃、或高丽，倘若只有大宋臣民方得进关，那么大理国、灵鹫宫两路人马，大部分都不能进去了。 玄渡说道：“将军明鉴：我们这里有许多同伴，有的是大理人，有的是西夏人，都跟我们联手，和辽兵为敌，都是朋友，何分是宋人不宋人？”这次段誉率部北上，严守秘密，决不泄露是一国之主的身份，以防宋朝大臣起心加害，或掳之作为人质，兼之大理与辽国相隔虽远，却也不愿公然与之为敌，是以玄渡并不提及关下有大理国极重要的人物。 那军官怫然道：“雁门关乃大宋北门锁钥，是何等要紧的所在？辽兵大队人马转眼就即攻到，我若随便开关，给辽兵乘机冲了进来，这天大的祸事，有谁能够担当？” 吴长风再也忍耐不住，大声喝道：“你少罗唆几句，早些开了关，岂不是甚么事也没有了？”那军官怒道：“你这老叫化，本官面前，哪有你说话的余地？”他右手一扬，城垛上登时出现了千余名弓箭手，弯弓搭箭，对准了城下。那军官喝道：“快快退开，若再在这里妖言惑众，扰乱军心，我可要放箭了。”玄渡长叹一声，不知如何是好。 雁门关两侧双峰夹峙，高耸入云，这关所以名为“雁门”，意思说鸿雁南飞之时，也须从双峰之间通过，以喻地势之险。群豪中虽不乏轻功高强之士，尽可翻山越岭逃走，但其余人众难逾天险，不免要被辽军聚歼于关下了。 只见辽军限于山势，东西两路渐渐收缩，都从正面压境而来。但除了马蹄声、铁甲声、大风吹旗声外，却无半点人声喧哗，的是军纪严整的精锐之师。一队队辽军逼关为阵，驰到弩箭将及之处，便即停住。一眼望去，东西北三方旌旗招展，实不知有多少人马。 萧峰朗声道：“众位请各在原地稍候，不可移动，待在下与辽帝分说。”不等段誉、阿紫等劝止，已单骑纵马而出。他双手高举过顶，示意手中并无兵刃弓箭，大声叫道：“大辽国皇帝陛下，萧峰有几句话跟你说，请你出来。”说这几句话时，鼓足了内力，声音远远传了出去。辽军十余万将士没一个不听得清清楚楚，不由得人人变色。
过得半晌，猛听得辽军阵中鼓角声大作，千军万马如波浪般向两侧分开，八面金黄色大旗迎风招展，八名骑士执着驰出阵来。八面黄旗之后，一队队长矛手、刀斧手、弓箭手、盾牌手疾奔而前，分列两旁，接着是十名锦袍铁甲的大将簇拥着耶律洪基出阵。 辽军大呼：“万岁，万岁，万万岁！”声震四野，山谷鸣响。 关上宋军见到敌人如此军威，无不栗然。 耶律洪基右手宝刀高高举起，辽军立时肃静，除了偶有战马嘶鸣之外，更无半点声息。耶律洪基放下宝刀，大声笑道：“萧大王，你说要引辽军入关，怎么关门还不大开？” 此言一出，关上通译便传给镇守雁门关指挥使张将军听了。关上宋军立时大噪，指着萧峰指手划脚的大骂。 萧峰知道耶律洪基这话是行使反间计，要使宋兵不敢开关放自己入内，心中微微一酸，当即跳下马来，走上几步，说道：“陛下，萧峰有负厚恩，重劳御驾亲临，死罪，死罪。” 刚说了这几句话，突然两个人影从旁掠过，当真如闪电一般，猛向耶律洪基欺了过去，正是虚竹和段誉。他二人眼见情势不对，知道今日之事，唯有擒住辽帝作为要胁，才能保持大伙周全，一打手势，便分从左右抢去。 耶律洪基出阵之时，原已防到萧峰重施当年在阵上擒杀楚王父子的故伎，早有戒备。亲军指挥使一声吆喝，三百名盾牌手立时聚拢，三百面盾牌犹如一堵城墙，挡在辽帝面前。长矛手、刀斧手又密密层层的排在盾牌之前。 这时虚竹既得天山童姥的真传，又尽窥灵鹫宫石壁上武学的秘奥，武功之高，实已到了随心所欲、无往而不利的地步，而段誉在得到鸠摩智的毕生修为后，内力之强，亦是震古铄今，他那“凌波微步”施展开来，辽军将士如何阻拦得住？ 段誉东一晃、西一斜，便如游鱼一般，从长矛手、刀斧手间相距不逾一尺的缝隙之中硬生生的挤将过去。众辽兵挺长矛攒刺，非但伤不到段誉，反因相互挤得太近，兵刃多半招呼在自己人身上。 虚竹双手连伸，抓住辽兵的胸口背心，不住掷出阵来，一面向耶律洪基靠近。两员大将纵马冲上，双枪齐至，向虚竹胸腹刺来。虚竹突然跃起，双足分落二将枪头。两员辽将齐声大喝，抖动枪杆，要将虚竹身子震落。虚竹乘着双枪抖动之势，飞身跃起，半空中便向洪基头顶扑落。 一如游鱼之滑，一如飞鸟之捷，两人双双攻到。耶律洪基大惊，提起宝刀，疾向身在半空的虚竹砍去。 虚竹左手手掌一探，已搭住他宝刀刀背，乘势滑落，手掌翻处，抓住了他右腕。便在此时，段誉也从人丛中钻将出来，抓住了耶律洪基左肩。两人齐声喝道：“走罢！”将耶律洪基魁伟的身子从马背上提落，转身急奔。 四下里辽将辽兵眼见皇帝落入敌手，大惊狂呼，一时都没了主意。几十名亲兵奋不顾身的扑上来想救皇帝，都被虚竹、段誉飞足踢开。 二人擒住辽帝，心中大
